Meet the Streak

Were excited about the Dell Streak, a 5 inch touchscreen Android tablet that does it all and then some!

This slim, lightweight device is the very first tablet to be available through The Carphone Warehouse, and its changing the way we think about mobile devices.

Streak is a 3G tablet with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; so you can use it as your phone while enjoying web browsing and media playback on a bigger, brighter screen.

The 5 inch WVGA display has a 16:9 ratio optimised for websites; so its great for viewing web pages or streaming videos on the move. Theres no need to squint at content or stretch and pull windows into view.

Streak has a front-facing camera and a powerful 5 Megapixel lens with autofocus and a dual LED flash. We are really impressed with the quality of the photos, and how easy it is to share your creations via MMS, or Twitter.

You can use the tablet as a full Sat Nav device, its large, crisp screen makes landmarks really easy to spot.

In short, Dell Streak is a slim, lightweight tablet that can be used both as a phone and as a brilliant entertainment device. Its great for apps, media playback and web browsing, yet remains small enough to easily carry with you throughout the day.

they have gone silly and made it too big, so it sits in neither camp, too small for a tablet PC too big for a phone

Awkward device, too small for a tablet and too big for a phone (It looks ridiculous against your ear for calls). I predict an epic fail from dell.

I agree - too small for a phone, too big for a tablet:whistling:
#5
What the Dell were they thinking?

Affiliate link in the OP as well, are they allowed?

And looking on the Carphone Warehouse website, £25 a month for 3GB of mobile data. And that's with no minutes or texts either.

I really don't understand your post.... as the other two posts you quoted said, it's too big to be a phone and too small to a tablet.

I don't get what you're trying to say??

The device is getting excellent reviews, I thought this site was to highlight new deals as opposed to everyone putting in their opinion about something they don't own.
#10
Its way to big IMO next to an iphone for scale.

Exactly.

I won't be buying this, I'm content with my iPhone (until 6pm that is), but the device has really good reviews and is an interesting product. I wonder how many of these people criticising the device have actually used it?

Anyway, I'm voting cold because it's cheaper at O2, not because it's supposedly too big for a phone.

Well, at least you've shown your working out.

I can see this being a great bargain in 6 months when they knock them out for £100 a time

The iphone is big enough as it is, what the hell were they thinking when they brainwaved this breezeblock?

Like many others have said it's way too small to be a tablet/pc and is way too big to be a phone!

People were actually joking when they said they would take their ipads out with them and have them stuffed in their pockets, it seems dell thought they were being serious..
#15
Is it that much better than an Archos 5 Internet Tablet which Play are selling at £179

In the Colbert Report, he showed that they are making suit jackets with an iPad inner pocket for just this purpose! Think it was in the NY Times.

Why hold it up to your ear when you can use a bluetooth headset?

I have used it, and I found it too small for a tablet and too big for a phone. (like I said above)

Isn't £429.99 the rrp for this thing?

So is this really a deal? :?

+1. This is not a deal as such, regardless of the virtues or flaws of the product.

Personally I think it looks like a nice bit of kit, well specc'd too, but I don't actually need one. Therefore I will wait till they are reduced, after not selling very well, whereupon I will invent an excuse and buy one.

Voting neither hot nor cold.

I am not voting on this and certainly not criticising the device as I haven't used it. However, I do understand when people say it is too big for a phone (the iPhone pic proves that point) and it is too small to be a serious tablet device, even netbooks with 10" screens were too small for any lengthy use in my opinion.

Having said all of that, I think the market this is aimed at is different to how people are using either of these devices at the moment. It is like someone said, the device would/should be in a suit pocket and you would/should be using bluetooth connectivity for phone purposes, there really is no need to hold a phone to the ears these days. The tablet function for very light occasional use will be fine. If some or many of us can use the iPhone to browse the net etc. I am sure that this will be that little bit better to use.

These are just my opinions, I am sure many people will have their own.
#22
Phone itself is good specification , but not handy. Will be a big problem on daily use, on vacations it will be good entailment gadget . Lets see how the people thinks about.
#23
I had a go with it in O2 shop. No way I want one. its being pushed as a tablet but is far too small for that purpose with its 5 inch screen.
#24
It's not that big - it's about the size of a Nokia N810 but a lot thinner. Not difficult to carry in a suit pocket or a bag, even a shirt pocket, if you can stand the weight. Not a problem to use as a phone if you have the sense to use a Bluetooth headset (you do know that you can unclip the earhook on most BT headsets, don't you?). Nice big screen for using the camera/browser/watching movies, proper operating system and no Big Brother dictating what you can and can't do with it. To me it seems a much better improvement on the iPhone than the iPad is. This can do more than the iPhone on a bigger screen rather than less on a bigger screen (like the iPad).

Of course then there will very soon be the iPhone 4 with a higher resolution on a smaller screen. Hmm...

However, the point is that this is not a deal, it's the RRP. So no heat.
#25
Maybe there is a market out there that want exactly this type of size???

and the iphone at £50

I always wish to have ebook reader on my phone, but my htc was too small.
This one will be perfect and still not too big for a pocket
#28
great phone - used one yesterday. Any nay sayers here used it or even seen it in the flesh?!

Nice screen, not that heavy or large once its in your hands - and its fast. Once this has 2.1 or 2.2 its gonna be rock solid.

But....cheaper at O2
