Posted here last week on tesco direct at this price but they have run out of stock.

Just dropped into my local tesco (New Malden, London) and it appears they are doing this instore as well. Very tempted to get one as this is a very good price for a smartphone/tablet with android 2.2, 1Ghz snapdragon proccessor and 512mb ram.

Can also be used a a phone, as it has dedicated earpiece and mic.

dell.co.uk is selling for £398.99, and most other places around that mark as well.

Also if they only have the display model left, you can get another 10% off as they are not getting any more in. this will take it down to £179.10

Deal Still on as of 23rd May.

You two should get together, your colours match perfectly!

Hot by the way, if I can find one.

Apart from the crappy sound quality this is a good device - heat

This has been the store price since Wednesday. I will say though that some stores are slow at changing the shelf labels. Picked mine up and the shelf + staff said £399 but scanner said £199.

When I first rang up he said £399 and would I like to buy a Galaxy instead. I asked him to check the price and he came back with £199.

can double up vouchers be used for this?
#10
Going to check my local tomorrow, think I'll get 1 with Mrs staff discount.

Cheers OP.

Come on lads... 5 inches ... a 'Tablet', Really?

Good price I suppose but I just can't see the point in a 5" 'Tablet'. Not enough screen space for me.
#13
I agree, I got one from Tesco last week, its nice in theory but in reality too small for a tablet and way too large as a phone. Sending it back.

I was toying with a samsing galaxy S or a desire HD - but I dont really want a mobile phone - I want a spangly mp3 player. But having had a hero for around 8 months im liking getting my emails and stuff.

Could some kinda soul tell me:
a. How well does it work as an mp3 player
b. Will this Send/Recieve emails
c. Will it send SMS mgs
d. what kinda of storage does it use ?

thanks

Is this deal at any tesco store ? I have a local tesco extra so ill check there in the morning.
#16
Tried one on release, and the touchscreen was too sluggish for some games.
Might be interested if they've fixed it with firmare updates.

Many Tescos are 24 hour - so if you want it - call now.

I like the spec - but there seems to be an awful lot of people complaining that the LCD cracks inside the glass with pressure that you would expect in normal use.

TY Mr Grove (Just down the road from me that.. Byker... I worked there until around 8 months ago)

Off to tescos tommorow then :-)

i think its because people put it in their pockets as it does fit, and with that size i can imagine there being strain on the LCD when in the pocket, the front glass is gorilla glass so that's not so likely to break but the LCD glass is pretty fragile.

in my tesco it wasn't in the phone shop, it was in the general electronics sections with the laptops and tablets.

I asked him to look there too, and he couldn't see it, but he did seem to be looking at External Hard Drives - doh !

My local Tesco never has these deals anyway, worth the phone call tho'

ps Thanks for the reply

Flexing of the Streak's casing seems to be a problem, the Gorilla Glass and the LCD screen appear to be glued together with large amounts of glue being used.

The Gorilla Glass itself is prone to cracking quite badly (link).

My 2nd Dell Streak - Cracked LCD and now Cracked Gorilla Glass

A short fall onto a carpeted floor seems to be enough

Broken screen... after 4 days

Even in a case and placed in a jacket pocket, the Gorilla Glass still gets scratched (link)

There do seem to be an abnormally high number of instances of cracked/shattered screens with the Dell Streak. A shame really as I quite like the concept of a phone/tablet with a large screen yet still portable.

There are bad reviews about everything on internet. you're either in or you're out.
#27
Using mine at them moment I picked up from tescos instore . I highly reccomend the dolphin browser for it, very good tablet that's pretty portable and does phone calls too. Very delicate though for a phone, makes me nervous when lifting it awkwardly or putting in my pocket.
#28
These are a very awkward size, too small for a tablet and too big for a phone.
#29
Voted hot, but this thing is huge!

I got myself a dell streak last month for the £399 price tag, i returned after 3 days of owning - it stopped charging, second dell streak retruned after 8 days screen kept freezing and red ink mark appeard on screen, returned for my 3rd dell streak owned 1 day dropped off my lap onto wooden floor whilst i was laying on the sofa, screen cracked and phone unusable, unable to return due to me damaging -£399. Would not purchase even for half price. Faulty tablets, invest your £199 in a something else I assure you'll have problems with this tablet. Overall I was pleased though with the features it had it was pretty cool however it's impossible to hear someone whilst making a call through the in call speaker it's not to bad if speaker is on. Half the android games and apps dont work cause of the screen size im assuming also.

my dell streak is now sitting in my junk draw with old keys, condoms, some screws, a lighter and about 20 dead batteries and a few chargers.
#32
Nice find op have some heat
#33
and you might ask yourself why it's in my junk draw i took insurance out on it through bank but when trying to claim they told me its not listed has a mobile phone but a pc - insurance invalid.
Tesco don't support it
Dell tell you your f^%$ed after wasting £18 bucks on a internation call only to tell you there is no such thing is a screen replacement you have to buy a new unit lol

Fine Ive had no problems came up from an X10 and its better but bigger

b. Will this Send/Recieve emails
Yes I use gmail and with data enable its instant
c. Will it send SMS mgs
Yes
d. what kinda of storage does it use ?
Micro SD I have 32 gb in mine runs movies fine

Owned one 3 months all good but it is a leap from a phone as the 5 inches makes it a little on the big side when answering calls - I sometimes feel like Dom Joly Trigger Happy TV. No one thrown rocks yet though.....

I agree, but when you think about it logically, if there are say 200 reviews for a product you will always get the two extreme views. This is because the item is being tested across a wide range of conditions and people's expections. I generally ignore the odd good/bad reviews and go with the majority.
#36
Had one in the past but mainly used as a phone but too big. This is a good deal though, ideal for browsing web email and sms.

If they are unlocked and you dont get on with it you can still get £206 in exchange credit at CEX

Ordered an Otterbox Defender for mine, also gives me the willies picking it up. Its like picking your first newborn baby up. LOL

Is the TV out only through a docking station or can it be done through the 3.5mm headphone jack (like the Galaxy S)?
#39
Worth noting that Tesco are selling off all the official Dell accessories at half price or less.

I got my Streak on Tuesday and am very impressed with it. If you intend to do more screen based work than telephoning e.g.surfing,emails etc etc then it's way better to use than a standard smartphone. I bought a £10 pm giffgaff no contract PAYG sim (250 mins pm/unlimited texts and unlimited internet). I agree with the comments about its size making it more vulnerable than a phone. Some form of protective case is essential for when you are out and about IMHO. Early days, but so far i can definitely recommend it.
