How competative does this system remain, when upgrading the screen to 1920x1080, adding the BD-ROM and bluetooth?

64bit OS  I'm waiting for the Free Windows 7 upgrade. :-D H&R :)

-Always....this was the best some time ago... http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/349133/dell-xps-m1530-laptop-15-4-2-40-ghz/

...but it's what's on offer NOW that counts.

Great find, I already spent my savings on a NC10 but I would've gone for this if I hadn't.
#10
This deal is much better as it has an ATI 4570 which demolishes a GeForce 8600M.

Hot.

It's not better than the 8600m GT in my Dell XPS M1530, that much is certain. Demolishes it - :?

that review ws ayear ago, mind, and with an ati 4570 as aposed tothe 3450 in the review, does make a more promising laptop for games, i had the previous model and thougt it was top notch bar the card, and the LED backlit screen is one of the better i have used,,

voted hot,,,

p.s if as a previous poster states the ATI 4570 kicks asss on a 8600gt, its defo worth it, i have an XPS 1530 with the 8600gt card in it, and that plays crysis etc pretty well,;-)

It doesn't have a better card than the XPS M1530, mate. Maybe he's talking about lower spec 8600m cards, I don't know.

Still, it's a nice laptop.

Oh, yeah, I know dude. :) You're right, it's definitely better than the previous ATI offering. It's nice that you can get the processor upgrade for free, too. If I was looking for one, I think I'd have the backlit keyboard for £30.

if you get hold of a epp link, its 3-6% more off.

The Dell™ Employee Purchase Program (EPP) enables employees of participating companies to get special savings on quality technology products for home use.
#23
i cant give you the link as its not aloud here.
EPP is employment purchase program.
http://i.dell.com/images/emea/epp/epp_discount_uken.jpg

you can order your dell like normal, then you will get a link by dell by email or just use the on on there site to register and once windows 7 in availible, dell will send it to you and all you pay for is the postage.

i got 16% off on my dell to get a dell studio xps 16 which is great :D. 128gb ssd, windows 7 and the RGB LED screen is too good.
#25

seems the studio 15/17 dont get it free.
#26
On Dell deals page they say 'Get Free Colour Upgrade until 01/07/2009'.

When building the laptop however, they add between £29-£69 to the cost of the laptop.

Worth an email to Dell if you are going to purchase one of these.

There are also big discounts of various other ranges of Dell laptops, including higher spec machines.

I believe I may have found a better deal here. What do you think?

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/home-computing-special-offers/

Spec and price are similar. Screen is a lot bigger though.

If people rate it, I'll post it as a deal.

Am I missing something, or does it list the Studio 15 under the eligible computers - first one, top left?
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/landing/en/emea/windows-7-consumer?c=uk&l=en&s=gen

Key for me, as i'm not putting up with Vista longer than have to :)

Ha, yes, you're right. Too late for this on a Sunday - esp whilst using my old Inspiron...!

Thanks for correcting me.

For what it's worth, if you go through to this page - https://win7.dell.com/Eligibility.aspx - and scroll down to the 'Systems Eligible for an Upgrade' section the Studio 15 (1555) is in the drop-down menu. So there's a decent chance that you would get the upgrade with this system.

Git ;-). Ordered mine nearly 3 weeks ago and still waiting on delivery.
