There is some stiff competition, think the £329 one from CPW rapes this deal.

Cold

I'd personally go for the build quality of a Studio over an Inspiron but there's no denying that the Inspiron deal is a scorcher.
#4
I got one almost the same as this from the Dell Outlet for £250. I would check out the dell outlet first.

Yeh but isnt that a 17inch model and personally as a portable device 17inch is too big whereas 15inch just about is ok so for portability reasons this size is better plus its a studio version which is above the inspiron...so dont agree it quite rapes this deal, maybe it molests it instead:p
#6
this shouldnt be so cold, considering how the dell1750 from CPW has got so hot, i've added heat to this - not that it helped much tho

this is only £47.55 [after quidco] more than the other deal and if you dont mind the smaller display, it has the extra benefit of an extra 2gb of ram and more importantly - perhaps you should add this to your OP as it doesnt show up without a click thru to the link - it has according to another poster here who also found it HDMI which some people will love

ok it may not have bluetooth like the dell1750, but some people dont care for that and it does have the added bonus of a coloured case so thats £29 worth of extras too
#7
at least this is available in stock...the 17" is oos

prob only until monday when they can add more - like what happened last weekend but aside from that the deal, as i suspect is the case with this one too - is avail in store until 22/10
#9
Much nicer pc than the 17" Inspiron and with better battery - don't see why this is so cold in comparison...
#10
does this really have hdmi and a webcam?

No, they're lying to you.

I bought the same model from dell outlet a while back (£370, 4gb ram, 512 mb gpx, 320gb hdd, 2ghz dual core) all of the dell 1555 have a 2 mp webcam and hdmi, also 2 audio outs which is a nice add (2 headphone jacks for you and a friend).

Aye mibees a bit harsh. Very glad with the 17.3" one, only problem it's too big for my Dell lappie case!
#13
A bit more heat added too, this should also have the 'free'* win 7 upgrade available as it's vista home premium

There's a link on the other threed for a case fron amazon under £10 if I remember correctly
#15
old or new studio? guess old as new ones on dell site dont come as basic
#16
This should be hot! To get anywhere near this on the Dell site is £470ish as you have to pay extra for the similar processor and a few other things.

I would be keen to get confirmation about HDMI and the webcam as it isn't mentioned on the CPW site. Also I take it this doesn't have Bluetooth? My 1750 should arrive middle of the week but quite tempted in this one too!
#17
Just ordered one. Don't want it to go out of stock while I decide if I want to keep the Inspiron 1750.

What are the return policies if I have opened the box? Want to know if I can open it to take a look at it and return if not happy with it. Thx

Pick up a brochure from local CPW which states HDMI +these other details
4 USB ports (3 on the Inspiron 17)
Battery life 6hrs (4.5 on the Inspiron 17)
Weight 2.7kg (3.4 on the Inspiron 17)
Processor - Pentium Dual Core X4600 (??)

Thanks for the info. And what I will do is steal the BT Module out of the 1750 I have here for my Sisters Xmas as she will never use it.

I was going to post that it was a mis-price as the CPW Laptop main page says it is £439 but it is not until you opened up the product that you see it is £379 but I see this has now become the deal of the week and replaced the Inspiron 17 so with luck this will get some deserved heat.

Now...will I miss the numeric pad to the side when I am doing my accounts?? Hmmm.

Good review here:

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4518

If anyone gets one today can they try to post up the full spec. I think you can do that with the Prodict Tag on the box through the Dell website??
#21
Decent spec for the money. I would have gone for this if I hadn't got the Dell 17".
#22
Ok, Got mine today.

Can't get as detailed a spec off the website as like the post on the Inspiron 17 thread but here is what I have:

100 STUDIO 1555 : RETAIL ONLY PENTIUM DUAL C
100 DISPLAY : 15.6IN WIDESCREEN HIGH DEFINIT
100 CAMERA : INTEGRATED 2.0 MEGA PIXEL CAMER
100 LCD BACK COVER : MIDNIGHT BLUE MICROSATI
100 MEMORY : 3072MB (1X2048 + 1X1024) 800MHZ
100 HARD DRIVE : 250GB SERIAL ATA (5400RPM)
100 OPTICAL DRIVE : 8X DVD+/-RW DRIVE INCLUD
100 POWER SUPPLY : INSPIRON 65W AC ADAPTER
100 BATTERY : PRIMARY 6 CELL 56W/HR LI-ION
100 GRAPHICS : INTEL INTEGRATED GMA 4500MHD
100 WIRELESS : DELL WIRELESS 1397 (802.11 B/
100 WIRELESS LABEL - PENTIUM DUAL CORE
100 1YR LIMITED WARRANTY - COLLECT & RETURN
100 RETAIL ONLY - 15 MONTHS COLLECT AND RETU

I am keen to get better info on the screen. Is it WLED or TFT? WLED gives better battery life. Good to see the webcam is 2MegaPixel. Also note that unlike the Studio 15 in the review I linked to this one does NOT have the media buttons, they are built in to the Function keys. Also it doesn't have the design on the palm rest which is good as in the pictures it looked all yucky!

When I find out if it is a WLED screen I will fire it up. Once I have done that I can't return it.

Oh and the cover is really nice. A dark blue rubberised feel. No finger marking like the Inspiron 17 and seems scratch proof to an extent. I thought it might be too garish blue but it is really nice.
#24
Surely this should be hotter, it is slightly better specced (but a slower processor) than the £248.99 deal everyone has been clambouring over and most of those seem to be cancelled as it is a big price error. A little over £100 more, extra memory and HD (and a nice blue colour) secures this one.

Surely this should be much, much hotter than this.
Heat and rep added from me.
#25
Turns out this is Vista 32 Bit which is strange as the Inspiron 17 is 64 Bit. Wonder if I can get a 64 Bit W7 upgrade disc from Dell?

my daughter has the pink cover on a studio and its looks awful now, im assuming sunlight has made it fade in places

Quick question about the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7: Do you have the option for a clean install rather than an upgrade? I'm thinking about if in the future I want to reinstall the operating system. Will I need to reinstall Vista and then upgrade again, or will the upgrade disc allow me to jump straight to Windows 7?
#29
First, you can only update the same version. So a 64 bit version of Win7 will not install on a 32 bit machine (and it has to be home premium or better to qualify). As for a clean install, that is an option but I believe only on the full version. It just saves you losing all your files and settings but you are really better off doing a clean install.
I have Win 7 running on a new HD with a clean install and the speed and efficiency over the previous Vista OS is remarkable for me. Great OS so far.

Anyone ordered this yet and received it? I am poised to buy right now.

Howz about either removing the Windows 7 reference or changing the price to £379 + £15 = £394 to be a touch more honest!
#31
Bargain price on the 5530 3G/GPS module on ebay 250509348878. Usually selling for £50+ but seller wants £34.99 shipped.

:whistling: or add another £10 for a case :whistling:or £3 taxi fare to actually go into town to pick one up....where will it end...

Dell 5530 Mini PCI Card fitted and working great. Got it on eBay for £34.99 but seller now selling at £39.99.

how do you go about getting the windows 7 upgrade? dell upgrade site doesnt recognise my service tag

Call Dell to register your service tag. Then register on the upgrade site (https://win7.dell.com/)
