You won't get an xps 17 with a 1080p screen, it's only an option on the 15s, stuck with the standard 900p I'm afraid.

The current Sandy Bridge Dell XPS 17 range is ok but not compelling. Those with the Intel 2310m aren't worth bothering with, These turbo-less CPU's aren't as good as some of the i3 CPU's they are supposed to replace. Also, the discounts on the lower range XPS's are on the low side so you end up with a delivered price of about £650.

I wouldn't consider buying this Studio 1749 but nor will I get an XPS 17 unless they (a) start doing free delivery again (current £19.99 on cost) and (b) apply the McAfee deal to all their laptops.

can be purchased new with a 1080p screen so might have refurbs come in but they retail new at £1000

Well, I just managed to get an XPS i5-560M with 17" screen, 500GB 7200rpm disk, 4GB memory and (I think) 1GB graphics memory for £399 +VAT delivered.

To me, this seems a good deal. Better than this one that I listed. Not sure if there are any left though.

Yeah, I was obviously referring to the L701is currently available through the outlet. Presumably the 702s will eventually filter through but I wouldn't be holding my breath on getting a bargain on one for quite a while.

for £320 delivered - did i do alright? I have to admit, my requirements were lots of memory, i5 or higher and pretty colour... ;)

But does anyone have any idea why it would reference the Inspiron 1440 and AMD Phenom II Quad-Core P920 as well? It was listed as N5010 i5...
#18
Got to be honest, Ive been a dell registered partner for 4 years and I've never heard of the 1440?? but they also have it listed as a N5010 ?

How you have managed to work out from that description what you are getting is beyond me...

It is either a Inspiron 1440 or a N5010 (15R)
and has either a Intel Celeron 900 processor, a Intel i5-460M(2.53GHz) processor or a AMD Phenom II Quad-Core P920 processor in it... and either has a european or South African Bluetooth card in it... and either has Windows 7 Ultimate or windows 7 Home Premium (I would suspect the latter) ??? If I had read a description like that I would have avoided it like the plague, too confusing to work out what they are actually selling you as it is 2 or 3 descriptions mixed together......
