They had 5 more in chesterfield although 1 of them was missing the 2 antenna for the built in Wifi card!

The discount is the NP Non Pristine they apply to all the clearance stuff,

These stores seem to work on a bit of Voodoo! everything comes up ata price on the till and they type in a discount to bring it down to the yellow sticker price on the actual product.

Although they seem to have a lot of leeway, I picked up a Wireless keyboard Laser mouse combo today in Chesterfield and it scanned at the till at £34.99 and had no sticker on the staff member just said, I cant find any others what do you want to pay!. (wouldnt let me have it for a fiver tho!)

Merry Hill is in the Big MerryHill shopping Centre in Birmingham,
Manchester is in The Ancoates Centre
Chesterfield is in the Retail Park with the normal PCWorld/Currys

Not sure on the Chester one, but they will tell you if you phone them

Prices will be different from store to store, as will stock - these are probably only at Chesterfield, for example.

Merry Hill seems to have the lowest prices.

Ancoats is way too expensive.

Not bad (Told you they make the prices up as they go!!!)

its a Standard Micro Wifi N Card inside, the antenna pair are about a fiver on ebay, just screw on jobbies, so not a bad deal at all,

Although should be more than 1 left, there were 3 boxed ones + the one on display missing the antenna at 4pm this afternoon, so either they cant find them or they are selling fast.

This seems really cheap, i can only presume thie 15 is better than the i3 say in the 400 quid ish desktosp i have seen in currys. still have my old TFT for now too. will have to ring meryr hill in the morning and see if they have any unless anyone can show better deal
#12
The i5 is the midrange

i3 = 2 Core None Hyperthreaded
i5 = 2 Cores Hyperthreaded (Except 750 which is 4 cores)
i7 = 4 Cores

Basically i3 classed as starter i5 mid range and i7 power user,

Although personally have nver found anything the i5 can't cope with and I mainly do photo and video editing

This has the i5 650 which is 2 cores at 3.2Ghz (Hypertheaded to make it seem lie 4), and has a Turbo boost when only 1 core is in use, so if using a program that cant use multi cores this shuts down the unused core and runs the single core faster.

All in all its a nice little CPU for a desktop, faily low power but with decent grunt
#13
I can confirm that this is a very good PC having bought a studio XPS 8100 last year, I chose the i5-750 CPU for mine plus 8Gb ram but this deal is especially the same but at a very low price indeed, mine cost around £700!

Good deal IMHO

hot !

This is only the Dual Core i5 but still a good little chip. This aint no gaming machine though, the graphics card is the lowest end ATI graphics card possible, not sure why they just didnt stick the the i5's build in GPU, it would have been cheaper?
banned#16
You could always upgrade the graphics card but without knowing the power supply wattage (which I doudt is high) your still not going to be looking at anything 'Gaming' class.
#17
Hot if you can find one.

The i5 650 clocks at 3.2GHz and has the turbo boost, wheras the 750 quadcore is 2.66GHz, in most apps they perform about the same, with the 750 only winning out in limited envirments where the programme is optimised for 4 cores.

As for the graphic have to agree I doubt there is much between the 5450 and the integrated on the 650, other than the 5450 has 1GB of its own memory and can run 3 monitors

I got an XPS 7100 with an AMD X6, 6 GB RAM and Radeon 5770 for only a smidgen over £400 in January. So it's plausible.
#20
Pretty much the same deal I recently got from the Dell outlet, just I got it £15 cheaper. Hot though.

Wouldn't bother with Chester, they NEVER have good discounted deals like this!!!!!
#23
currys also have this 8100 on ebay shame it's not at the same £383 price else i would have bought one, i'm gonna try the manchester branch tomorrow.

Depends what the graphics card was really, if it came with a card that on its own would cost 400 then that was a cracking price

Personally would never by from Dell, so easy to build one (unless you can get one really cheap like this one)

Where did you get that information that the i3 dual core is as fast as the quad core i5? its not any where near the speed of the i5, the i5 has 4 processing cores and as most apps now are multithreaded the more cores there are the better the performance. The i5 750/760 is a legendary chip that overclocked like no ones business and most would do at least 3.8ghz on air until the new i series chips the first generation where ground breaking, all the PC mags said that if you where building a mid range gaming PC then the 750 was the chip to get as it was faster than anything else at that price point. They even advised against getting the 1156 i7 like the 860 as the 750 would keep up with it in 90% of tasks and you would save £70 not having the hyperthreading. If what you say is right that would make the bottom of the range i3 as fast as the top i7's on the 1156 socket.

Flashyphotos did clearly qualify that this was for applications that don’t utilise 4 cores which seems accurate. For medium to heavy usage you obviously benefit from the quad core but for light usage which covers a lot of people quad core is not going to give a significant if any gain.

The GPU probably wasn't amazing knowing Dell.

Exactly, they are so overpriced. Even if you didn't feel competent enough you could go to a local pc shop and get them to custom build you something much cheaper with better specs.

Any1 know a website that compare CPU other than from cpubenchmark? Perferbly one that list CPU ranking.

From cpubenchmark, Intel i5 650 CPU is slower than Intel Core i3 2100.

I guess Intel being Intel trying to confuse ppl. (_;)

That's because that i3 2100 is one of Intels newest processors that have just been released whith the intention of replacing these i3, i5 and i7 models thus the new i3 is more powerful than the old i5 :)

Utter nonsense, my 8100 had the i5-750 which at the time was rated as the best value CPU and only marginally slower than the i7 equivalents (CPU cost £163 last May when I bought the PC) it also had a better GPU a 1.5Tb drive and 8Gb DDR3 ram, if you include the cost of W7 there is no way I could have built a PC at that spec which is what I wanted. I certainly was not robbed!

Well I don't agree with you, I am not stupid and have built several PC's myself, I would not have bought 8100 if I had been able to build the same spec for less than I paid for the Dell, I spent a long time pricing all the options and variations before I bought.

There is nothing wrong with Dell, the PC is well built and uses standard parts no different to any other makers, unfortunately in the distant past this was not so and Dell did use bespoke parts, some people think it is au fait to be a anti Dell much as people always had it in for Aol and Microsoft.

will be picking one of these up tonight then if you all think it's a good deal. I presume i will be able to play some basic gmaes liek the classis command and conque etc just not big high def crysis2 type games?

Seconded. I can easily build a PC and have done (let's face it, it's Meccano, not electrical engineering) and it does indeed seem to be the height of fashion to say Dell are rubbish. Well I've had 5 machines and never had one failure - all from the outlet site too.

My current machine is a Q6600 Quad Core with 4GB RAM for which I paid the princely sum of £286 inc vat and delivery, two years back. I'd like to see someone build for that price.

Why do people think they can get similar components at a lower price than a multi-billion dollar corporation with the associated buying power?

Everytime someone trolls this type of comment, someone (who can be bothered) usually lists the cheapest price of the major components and proves that, actually, it can't be built by Joe Public for that price. Stop it now, you just sound silly and ill informed.

I'm voting cold, in the last month I have bought two of these exact same machines from the Chester store (which is where this PC World store was for those asking) ,and both had to be returned within a couple of days for various faults, first one wouldnt even boot up to Windows, even though shop assistant (used in the loosest sense of the term), told me to come back after 30 mins so he could check it was all A1.
Not to mention an abacus is more powerful than this graphics card.

Don't knock the abacus! Add a few pebbles and you got yourself a nice Space Invaders setup going there... 2Player too. :)

FWIW, I think it is a good deal (and I just built an i5-2500k setup. Hot.

i presume they have a ddvd drive in them already as just on way to pick one up now, bit concerned about the negative comments on here

i so want one of these but i live in Kent so no where near these outlets any similar offers online?
