Thanks again MikeT. Nearly bought one yesterday (in fact dithered and found myself like Cinderella in the wrong place after midnight) so am loathe to pay the extra £25 this morning. But still a cracking deal and we all appreciate your efforts, esp. the early Thursday wake-ups.

People should be aware that although this is a 64bit cpu, Dell only ship the 32bit version of Vista with any Vostro notebook. If you choose to upgrade to the 64bit version, Dell won't be able to help you should you screw it up.

At the present moment it makes more sense to go with the XP Pro operating system.

The link does not seem to work (page not requested) and also could some kindly add a link to the XP Pro.

    Thanks.

Also its really bizare how they seem to be out of the truelife screens on the other models but not the V1000 (ie V1400 and V1500). The V1500 uses the same screen as this laptop - 15.4"

Does anybody know the reason why they are willing to offer XP Pro with this laptop and not with the other Vostros? Cheers.

Search for N0810003 on the serach box at the top right hand corner in the home section.:santa:

N0810003 is the e-value code for this machine.

I bought this with XP Pro. Not sure what version of XP pro (32/640 is installed. Will I face the same difficulty if I try and upgrade/reinstall later on.

Cool thanks. Will order one tonight. Think I'm going to plump for Vista as I have XP Media centre at home already and this will just be used for the internet.

I was being a bit dopey with that e-value code! Oops!

This is nice, but how does that processor stand up against the tried and trusted Core 2 Duo?

    Thanks in advance.

Mine arrived today, thanks for the heads up, great price!

But it might be too heavy for my needs, I seem to remember when ordering that they offered a worry free return within 30 days, with no costs to pay, but I can't see this on their website anywhere now! Anybody else remember seeing that and where I might find it?

PS My Toshiba 32C3030D is due on the 21st from Curry's - the AWTv45 and Aw30Aug codes worked a treat. Thanks!

Yes, contact Dell and they will pick up for you and recredit your c/card. Keep all original boxes.

7.3 to 7.7 would be the most relevant, I suspect, for you.

Thanks! love this community/site. think I may be addicted though ;-) . How many views a day do you think it takes to qualify??

Had a read, and it's not what I saw on their website. The offer then was that with the Vostro you had 30 days from delivery and that they would pick up at their own expense. Did anyone else see that, I'm worried I might have been delirious at the time!

You were on another continent. The USA site has the 30day no questions asked return. Here its 7 days.

Ah! Thank you! Thought I might have been losing it. :w00t:

The internet - travel the world in the blink of an eye - can have it's dreawbacks too!

Had the 640M before it was destroyed in a fire - which was just about reasonable for me to travel with, but this one (with a 9 cell battery) is a beast and feels more like a desktop replacement. Especially when i'm typing this on a Dell D420. Might have to look into the Samsung Q35. Shame there's such a long delay on the 1400 and xps models, that was the original reason I plumped for this one.

I still have a 640M with truelife and a D620 Latitude. 14" screens are I think just the right compromise for travelling with.
