So far it looks as though Febs deals are better than March. I ordered a laptop last night and paid about 60 quid less for a slightly better system compared to similar deals posted this morning. Obviously the 5% voucher helped!

I'd say that this new deal is just slightly better as you get a true-life screen and 40GB bigger hd for £39, which is usually the price for the HD upgrade, so in effect you now get the true-life screen upgrade for free, but there really isn't much in it!

Did you get it at £339.58 as it's coming out at £410.08 for me (£349 + VAT)?
I don't want to put my card details in if it's going to charge £410 as it says
[mod]#8
Still works for me as in the first post £339.58 delivered.

I guess it would be helpful if you finished then!!!!!
#13
Ok thanks yes that works. I have never had a Dell Vostro 1000 Notebook. I take it you would recommend these ?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 which seem good.
#14
Are these fine for simple surfing, watching DVDS, avi's and the odd game?

How long roughly does the battery life last for?
#15
Managed to get it down to £352.57!
#16
Worked it out now - I was trying to go via quidco, but don't think you can.

You can use quidco, just enter 305-N0310007 into the ecode finder boxes when you have logged in and got to the dell site.

Cheers Mike - gonna try that now

Hi

Ordered the Vostro 1000 deal last week for £277 but unfortunately XP home wasn't an option despite it being on the model below. I asked Dell whether they could substitute XP for Vista and they advised that a member of sales team would contact me to arrange. Subsequently I was not contacted & after numerous e-mails I was informed that my order had been shipped & there was nothing they could do about it. Dells customer service skills are absolutely diabolical, this is the second problem I've had with them in as many weeks, they just don't seem to want to help at all.

Anyway, does anyone know the best way of going about downgrading to XP home? I recently purchased another Vostro 1000 with XP home, so I have all the disks even though the licence only covers one user.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Will this deal be still available tomorrow does anyone know?? Looks pretty damn good!

A big downside of Dell is the time it takes to receive your item.
I bought a Vostro laptop and was immediately emailed it would be one month before it would be despatched - strange with all the information given when buying they don't tell you that when you order?

Two days before estimated delivery I'm now told another month!
So don't believe the tracking information on the site once ordered - it is an estimate that will change at the last minute - so why bother in the first place.:x:x
[mod]#25
Sorry to hear your kit is delayed, it does depend on what options you choose and also of course with Dell operating a JIT system they rely heavily on outside suppliers for component supplies.
I placed an order for a notebook on 25th and its being delivered today 29th so it does work the other way too.

I had the same problem. I sent an email to them asking about XP instead of Vista (and even buttered up their CS!) but all I had was:

"I am sorry to inform you but once the order is submitted we cannot make any changes to the order specifications. In case you need a different operating system the best option will be to cancel this order and submit the order again."

Still, might give it another go...;-)

I've got it down to 339.58, but not showing as free delivery..

Have tried going through quidco, then not using quidco.... same results.. 60 notes delivery charge

Can anybody help?
#33
Yeah I am having problems. I tried doing it though quidco and it now coming out as 423.07 ! The £23 and the delivery charge of £60 doesnt seem to been taken off now like it was yesterday when I tried and I got it to £339. I have just tried it not going though Quidco and I get the same !

Any suggestions to get it back to the £339 cost....thanks
[mod]#34
Well I got the £60 delivery too, so I have moved the deal over to the small business site where its still removing the delivery charge.
When buying from small business put your own name in the box asking for a business name and put Home when asked where it will be used.
To get quidco log into quidco and click through to dell, go to the small business site and use the ecode finder to get to the deal. ecode is 305-N0310007
#35
Thanks a lot MikeT I have managed to order it now and says it will take about 10 days...

I would love to see a laptop thread on anything OTHER THAN these ugly Dell Vostros ... I want a nice looking 17" silver laptop with 2Gb+ RAM and 200Gb+ HDD with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, preferably not made by Dell. Any good deals out there folks?
#38
Ordered mine February 29th got it this morning March 4th @ 8.30. :-D
#39
Maybe a Problem !

Dell have sent me a email this morning quering the order re it being a Business one or a home one. If I don't reply with 3 days they will cancel the order. Has anyone else had this email ? All my past order for friends have been home ones.

'If your order is for BUSINESS use please also complete the following boxes:

Information we would like to confirm Please enter your details in this column
Company Name
Contact Name
Billing Address '

If I say it is for home will they then charge me another £60 for delivery ? I put in my name for the business as MikeT suggested. Any suggestions guys ?
