I just realised this MikeT, and was about to post, but you beat me to it......
Keep up the good work mate, much appreciated!

this does look like the best deal on a mid range business laptop at the moment and the TL60 2GB ram and 120Gb HDD makes this very attractive.

Really tempted to get this one.

Looks like a great deal... compared to the prices that these have been going for. What I don't understand is why the 6400 posted today gets voted hot. This has a better processor, twice the memory (slightly) faster graphics and has a more rugged build (business quality).

Worse battery
6400 has firewire etc.
Does this? (not sure)
#7
the battery can be improved to 6 cell for only 11 pounds :santa:
#8
can you tell how bad AMD is on battery?

thanx for the advice Mr T.
Gone for the Vostro over the 6400. Upgraded to 9 cell.. £374

One thing to watch out with on these Vostro's, they're intended for business accounts rather than home users. Me and a friend might just have been unlucky, but we both ordered a 17" Vostro a few weeks back, about the same price as this one. Order was delayed twice, then disappeared from the site. When I phoned, they said there was a "postcode issue", but when I pressed, they said that was wrong, and the order was still OK. Next day, I got a cancellation e-mail as there was a technical error, and told to re-order. Decided against it (pi%%ed off with Dell by this point) but they automatically re-ordered for me.

Friend's experience was worse. Hers was an xmas present, and so she persevered. She eventually got through to a senior manager, who told her that she couldn't buy that one, as it was for business users only - however, she could still have it if she took out the 3 year service, as then the cost would be the same as a consumer one. She agreed, and then Dell changed the delivery date to 28th Dec - so she also cancelled.

We might just have been unlucky - I've bought loads of Dells in the past, and had no issues - but might be a change of poilicy re business items

They don't make it easy for home users to buy the Vostros... but that said, mine is now out for delivery (ordered 20th December) - not bad given the supposed shortage and the x-mas break !

Hello all, sorry for being dumb

but I have tried going through all of this and going to the point of paying but it still says £411.

When you say £351 does this include VAT and postage?

Just I would really like this machine but just cant see anyway of getting it.

Sorry people.

the 6400 's CPU out preform vostro 1000 and it comes with a bigger hard drive ..... so for performance point of view.. 6400 is a better choice

... hmm depends which CPUs are being compared. The AMD dual core struggle against the quicker Intel C2D but are competitive with the regular Intel Dual Core and Mobile Celeron.

Somewhere around the same performance as a Intel T2500 for the AMD TL60.

How does the 6400 CPU outperform the TL60?
Look at the below charts..
Assume the TL60 is better than the TL-56 (which it easily is) and assume that the T2130 is worse than the T2400 (which it definitely is).
Seeing as the TL-56 outperformed the the T2400..its a certainty that the TL60 (its bigger brother) is going to outperform the T2400s poorer relation, the T2130.

In reality..the T2130 will do some things better than the TL60 also. However, they are both good enough

Close but I think this may be the better bet, maybe slightly quicker and a neater package for travelling with, the 17" is more of a desktop replacement.

Purchased - thanks Mike!
