Sorry Mike this is coming up as £528.82 for me after reducing the warranty - hopefully I'm just doing something wrong!

All dell deals need to be taken right through to checkout for final pricing.

It will play some but it may be wise to upgrade the graphics to 256meg as you will always wish you had later...and the 9cell will give you more playtime on the road ;-)

Back again mike....Am i better waiting for the january sales ??? ive been looking @ the Toshiba A200-1VG that i can get for about £439 @ John Lewis, how does dell compare build quality wise ? thanks.

Any idea when these deals expire Mike? Theres business deals starting from Xmas eve and I might wait for them before 'jumpin' in. Especially as theres a 4 week delay on these 1400's.

I think these deals are good to Jan 2nd but Dell being dell.....

True, and true again!

"Due to unprecedented demand for this system, we regret to inform you of a prolonged delivery time on your order"

Shame - I'd half convinced myself that there was some merit in going back to a smaller laptop and getting a separate screen

Can anyone comment on the finish on these vostros - is it a black dye fixed into the plastic or is it a paint job? My last laptop (a Rock) had a big paw print where I my right hand had worn away the paint - something I'd like to avoid with my next purchase

Dont worry about the paint, just follow this guys instructions and you'll be ok!

Just want to say thanks for highlighting this deal Mike - despite the wait it's rare to pay less for a smaller, lighter laptop; having just arranged the purchase of my brothers 13" dell with a very similar spec for £738 paying £486 (I added the trulife screen) seems like a real bargain.

[edit] - b*gger, completely forgot about quidco - are well...

I think the black finish on these Vostos is terrible, they show fingerprints immediately and it just looks scruffy.
The 1500 model at least has a catch for the lid whereas the 1400 doesn’t which surprised me. It’s not exactly a thin and light laptop like a 12 or 13.3” model so I wouldn’t compare prices in that way.
I’d buy a 1500 but keep away from the 1400 as I’m wary of how much stress the hinge will take due to the lack of a catch.

Thanks for the guidance - I'm not expecting it to be thin and light, just lighter and smaller than the 17" I had previously - it's the component spec that is important to me rather than the aesthetics which is why I consider it value for money in comparison with what my brother has paid. I'll bare your comment about the catch in mind though.
