I would think your better off with resale in mind when you have finished with it, to get it with Vista. Another 2-3yrs and selling it with XP will be like selling something with Win 98 now.

MikeT, do you know how much it was before today? I'm fairly sure it was around that price last time I checked. I could be wrong though

Thanks for this MikeT. Been waiting ages before committing myself to buying a new laptop. But needs must. I get the impression that ringing Dell Sales can sometimes result in some good discount.

Does anyone have a good number to ring. Not an 0870!

You have to be careful with Dell pricing, its not always good to compare prices as the spec changes too. I have it coming in orginally at £483 then went to £493 then to £503 to £527 now back to £504 but I'm not about to go check all the specs to go with the prices.
Whats gone has gone, Dell promo price new kit then find a price it will sell at. I guess £500 is around the mark for this.

Does anyone know if there's a lead time on the Vostro 1400?

I ordered mine back on the 9th of Sep and still haven't got it, coming on Monday though

I paid £505, then take away quidco so £485 for same spec but 9 cell battery and 160gb HD, so they've dropped the spec a bit.

Question for MikeT. Don't know if you'll know but there is an Inspiron 1420 (14") laptop . This laptop is on the USA website only. Do you know if it will be launced here too?

Thanks in advance.

Dell market the 1420 in a few countries but not at present in the UK. They did have the Inspiron 640M and before that the 630M and they were not well recieved although I have a 640M and think its a great little laptop.
I have to assume that was the reason for not introducing it here when they brought in the other multi lid colour 20 &21 series notebooks recently.

They do of course have the Vostro 1400 range and perhaps they are watching sales on that before introducing another 14" screened notebook.

There is no reason to suspect Vostro sales are being held up as Inspiron ones are, seems that after the lack of screens Dell now have problems with the painting on the Inspirons.

I've had the Vostro 1400 for 2 weeks and i think its a really good for laptop anyone who's considering buying one.

I got all the below for £521:

T7100
2GB ram
160GB HD
Nvidia 8400MGS
9 cell Battery
Truelife screen (1440 x 900)
Intel N Wireless Card
Dell Noise Isolation Earbuds
Dell Travel Remote
Free extra AC adapter (that sells for £45)
Free extra Keyboard (incase)
Free extra Dell Noise Isolation Earbuds (that sells for £30)
FREE extra 9 cell battery (that sells for £113)
Free 3yr Next Business Day waranty (that sells for £116 online)

I basically got all that through a lot of complaints and haggling and in the end Dell has given me almost £280 worth of free stuff. Please dont pm me asking how i got it all this, i just complained about a lot of issues, and had to order and re-order 5 laptops to get all this.
