I THINK it's extra power required for the 3d effects from the graphics card so that you can play games for example just like a desktop machine graphics card get power from the mainboard and also directly from the power supply

I wished I had bought a vostro 1500 last week the offers were much better - looks like i will have to wait for some good offers again
#8
yeah dell aint getting my money untill there prices get where they were previously
#9
LoL i can agree, I got the Vostro 1400 when the spec was higher than this yet for the same price. Also as this had the 8400 GS graphics card, the laptop will come with a 90W Adapter.
[mod]#10
Sorry all but its not working now on either home or sb sites so they may have pulled the offer.
Sometimes you have to be quick.
#11
Now working and is £478 with discount applied
[mod]#12
Unexpired now and confirmed working again.
[mod]#13
5% discount voucher added brings the price down to near Vostro 1000 price range, almost tempted myself.

Ordered on Monday - Recieved yesterday!
Same as post, except - 1.6ghz, true bright, Vista Premium, trvel remote and 3 years warranty.
£483 Total.

Vista seems OK, Although it was abit slow starting up the first few times. iv downloaded all the updates and it flys now!
The graphics card has 128MB dedicated but it seems it can go upto 895MB using system ram.
[mod]#15
Thanks, Nice to get some feedback, what sort of gaming do you think the card is capable of?
#16
I tried playing the Crysis demo on my 1400 and it played on all of the low settings, and the card came underclocked so when i overclock the card, it may be able to play at a higher resolution than 800x600. Bit still im just glad its able to run it as even the 8800 GTX Ultra cannot run it on Ultra-high settings.
#17
does this have , sony duo mem slot? usb? sd slots? do dell take paypal?

thanks

Going by the poster above being able to run crysis on his it should be able to eat sims2 and spit out the bits no problem.
Bang for buck this is a much better deal than the Vostro 1000 at the moment although the screen is 14" rather than 15.4" on the vostro 1000.
If you need to go 15.4" screen then the Vostro 1500 (n1015002) listed on hotdeals is also good value at £501.

At the risk of asking a silly question, is the 14 inch screen a hinderence in any way or is it suitable for what I intend to do with the laptop. (My previous one had a 15.4).

Also, this will be an 'entertainment' laptop only (No business whatsoever) Is Vista business lacking in anything?

The 14" screen is fine for everything and to be honest I find the size easier as its just that bit smaller to make it more transportable than the 15".
You can of course use an external monitor with it when at home.

The Differences in Vista flavours are listed from the sidebar on my blog, see my sig.

Will they do these with XP Pro on if I phone and plead? My uncle's laptop has just broken and he doesnt want to learn a new OS for what he does - is a bit of a technophobe and I dont blame him...
