Is it me or does the small bussiness site offer cheaper prices for the upgrades? Or does the price stated not have vat on it?

E.g. i have configured this laptop to £399 and then I used a percentage calculator to work out that 17.5% of £399 is £69.82 so £399 plus £69.82 = £468. Yet when i configure this laptop to the same spec as the one i made on the bussiness section it comes out to £527.57.

Have a done something wrong or are the prices on the small bussiness section cheaper?

better than the sempron deal

SB prices in the "Build my laptop" are less vat. Get it built and go to checkout to see the final price. Its the same on both sites.
#5
Actually i just noticed that the one in the small bussiness section that i configured only has a 80gb hard drive.
#6
don;t know why but, £480.58 inc VAT on small business site. (£409.00 ex vat)
#7
Are you sure its the same as it may be a different configuration with a smaller size hard drive or does not include free delivery.

Ask to downgrade to vista Basic. (you can't downgrade online)
They are not to keen to downgrade, but it worked.

E-code 305-N0714001 (Same specs as this post But 80GB NOT 120GB)

When the Dell Rep gave me the lower price, I kindly pointed out that the 305-N0714002 has got a 120gb. He Upgraded it free of charge.

Basically they dont want to sell these machines with Vista Basic, But if you ask they will do it.

How does this one compare with the HP Pavilion for £459 (another thread) or the Acer here http://www.simplyacer.com/product/id/202619/LX.AX80X.112.

Bothe seem to have better graphics cards (to someone whose entire knowledge of graphics is based on MikeT's link on the subject)

Anyone?

I just got quoted this spec for £511:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 Processor (1.6GHz,800MHz,2MB L2 cache)
2GB RAM
Intel X3100 graphics card
80GB Hard Drive
Truelife screen
9 cell battery

Is this a good deal?
#23
bump. I would really like to know if this is a good deal or not.

Well you could have helped yourself by totaling it up in build my dell. It comes to £528.82 so your getting £17 discount and loosing loads of hard drive space (was 120GB).
I make it that your better off using Quidco and paying the full price.
#25
The HP Pavilion deal has now expired. Pity as I don't get paid till tomorrow.

However comparing this Vostro deal with the Acer 5103 at £469 + delivery:

both have 2 GB of Ram (rather than the 1GB in the OP?), but the Vostro seems to have a bigger cache (2Gb vs 512MB) ??
the Acer's graphics are better: ATI Radeon X1300 (dedicated) vs the Vostro's integrated Intel X3100
the Acer has a Crystalbrite screen
the Acer has a 160 GB hard drive vs the Vostro's 120 GB.

So am I right in concluding that the Acer is better value for money? Or is the Vostro's processor better, outweighing the other things? Any help within the next 24 hrs gratefully received.

OK I'll retire and stop bugging y'all.

Just got a recon HP Pavilion DV8295 from Currys:

17" HD Widescreen Brightview Display
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
256 MB nVidia GeForce Go 7400 Graphics

If you were offered this via a Small business rep I would ask him to put it in writing in the form of a quote as to really does look like the pre VAT price.

Yes I do have a quote and no its the post VAT price(free shipping).
[mod]#34
Well iyeranand That looks like they used N0714001 as the ecode for the deal and dropped Vista business to home basic but gave a better screen and a webcam.
With Business and the screen and webcam it should cost £540 delivered, so even taking something off for the drop to Vista home thats near £100 discount and a very good deal.
As its so good I would go for the better graphics 128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8400M GS with 90 watt AC adapter add £70.50 and ask for the ram to be just 1 stick @ 1Gig so you can easy add a second one later on.

I do think they have a bit to play with on that ecode as the next code up from that is the same price on the web site but has
2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
120GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
McAfee® Security Centre™ 8.0 - 36 Month Protection

I did answer this before in one of the Vostro threads, but I think it doesnt as its in the same place as the 1501. Check the owner manuals on both these machines and the battery placement looks identical.
#37
Yes it does, about 1 cm, the Dell rep told me

Lol sorry about that MikeT, maybe you should have a "donate me money" link on your blog for the hard work you do?

Lol joke. But seriously is that a good deal compared to the ones in the past?
