Holy **** thats a good price for that spec...

I do not need one at all but am so tempted :)
#2
This has now dropped to £527 inc vat & shipping !
[mod]#3
Thanks Brains £527 is a nice price for this isnt it. I have returned to my desk from my wanderings and have just updated the price in the OP.
#4
Missing from the above specs, this laptop also comes with camera
Matte Jet Black with 2.0 mega pixel camera

AFAIK, the above specs and price is the best ever offer on any brand, not just Dell.
[mod]#5
Yes Raj75, not bad is is it, I see as usual dell cold voters have been in action though

first post but been watching the deals on here for a while.
Is the 3 gb of ram on this not a waste as i was lead to belive that thay had to be in matched pairs to get the best from them, i'm probs totally wrong:whistling:

I'm looking to buy a laptop with a good spec and this could be the one or is there anything else floating about that is a better spec around the same price????

any help would be much appreciated
[mod]#7
voodoo there are now lots of manufacturers offering notebooks with 3gig of ram so although I have no data to support it I have to assume that the addition of 1gig of ram outweighs the speed advantage of dual channel (both same size) . Had it been 4 gig that would be a waste as Vista 32bit OS can only see and use a max of 3.5Gig. I also would suggest with multiple apps open the 3gig would be faster than with just 2gig.

Damn.. I've just ordered a Dell, with the v.similar spec, but it is an Inspiron. For only £35 more I could get the spec posted here, which gives me an extra 1GB RAM, and a dedicated graphics card. The only possible negative I can spot with the Vostro is that the 9 cell battery will stick out the back, so I have a few questions:
1) What is the difference between an Inspiron and a Vostro?
2) Is it possible for me to cancel my previous order and order this one? (Whats the best way to do this)?
3) Am I right in understanding Vostro's are from the business section of the Dell website - does this affect your rights as a consumer in any way?

Any advice gratefully received.
[mod]#9
Jdo, 1) Not much really the Inspirons are more flashy colouring for the home market, internals are pretty much the same I would guess. Vostro's are all black bussiness looking, maybe stronger cases and spill proof keyboards.
2) call Dell sales to cancel, in fact if you place another order today they may well call you to see if you ordered more than one in error.
3) Vostro is available from the home site but only by ecode (not viewable as a selection) so for this deal put ecode 305-N0115004 into the ecode finder boxes on the HOME site to get the deal as a home customer with usual dsr rights.

this is amazing....3gb ram..I will end up buying this!

thanks again MIKE t

would this deal qualify for the £50 FIRSTBUY-0102 discount? also does that code only work for telephone orders looking for a 17" laptop for less than £500 that is resonably ok for games so the 1721 with its integrated graphic card may not quite be up to it love it otherwise

The £50 is a business discount so if they gave it to you then you wouldnt have the same consumer rights as when buying via the home site, its also phone sales only.
#13
Just ordered!

It went down to £505 as it changed to £70 off instead of £50, I am not complaining so I snapped it up!

thanks mikeT

Is N0115011 not a better deal?

Yesterday I rodered a 1.4GHz C2D Vostro 1500, 120GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 256MB nVidia Geforce 8600m GT, 9 cell battery for £403. The 128MB nVidia Geforce 8400GS option was available for about £360.

Fair enough, the processor on this is faster and you get more RAM/HDD space, but both of these are easily upgradeable for very little these days. As for the processor, you're unlikely to notice a huge difference between the 1.4 and 2.0 unless you're planning on simultaneously running very memory-hungry programs on a regular basis.
#16
I agree with Sweetchuck, the last deal was crackin and for the sake of a little cpu speed and 1gb of ram which I don't think would make much diff, you can save yourself £100

I've been looking for a top end laptop with good graphics for a few months and at a decent price. This looks like the one to go for.

One question for people who have the laptop with them, are you happy with the way it looks? That's currently the only detractor. I've looked at Toshiba and HP laptops with decent graphics cards and they look really nice.

Is it true it weighs around 8 kg? Which is a lot for a lappy.
#18
This is not a "top end" laptop, the graphics card is mid range at best
#19
Any comments on it's looks/weight etc?

The graphics card is very decent for a £500 laptop.

Its an OK deal. imo.

Hi hotukdealers,

Can any tell me if it is possible for a domestic consumer to buy a Precision laptop? I never see them on the "Home" users area, only on the "Small and Business Business" users area.

Best,

Nickie

Yes you can buy them via the home section of the site, firstly go to the small business site and find the deal you want, take a note of the ecode for that deal (eg M90 is 307-W12M91) so go to the home site and enter that ecode into the shop by ecode boxes and it will appear on the home page for you to purchase.

As I've already said above, I got a laptop with the following specs yesterday from Dell for £404. After Quidco, that comes down to about £380.

1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
120GB HDD
2GB RAM
15.4" screen
9 cell battery
256MB nVidia Geforce 8600m GT Graphics Card

So it's not a top end machine in terms of processor, RAM and HDD, but it is a fantastic deal at the price, and more than capable of handling games like Crysis (as MikeT pointed out in another post). Plus, the processor, RAM and HDD can be upgraded later, if need be.

I challenge anyone to find me a comparable system from another retailer for the same price!

Plus, it was ordered around 7pm last night, and it's already been built and despatched.

Oh, and I can confirm that it doesn't weigh 8kg - it's not even half that. It's about 3kg.
#32
I specced the same one (+bluetooth) up early this morning but came back to it and the 10% off has disappeared making it £445 inc now. Still tempted but takes the shine off it if you know what I mean!
#33
My inspiron 1520 has just arrived today. It has the same spec. as above except that: it has
- a cre2duo T7500 ( 2.2 GhZ , with 4MB Cache)
- Integrated videp card intel X3100.
- 2GB RAM.

It costed me (£494). Do you think it is worth returning it and go for this one taking into account that I am not a gamer and my work involves some simulations that require good clock speed and ram.

Thanks for any reply in advance
#34
This comes with windows vista business.

Is the any disadvantge with this compared to vista home?
#35
Hi - Check this out for a comparison of the versions:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx
#36
Other than lacking the Aero interface, Windows Vista Home will be fine, unless you intend to do huge amounts of video editing etc.

If you coped with XP Home when XP Pro and Media Centre were available, you'll cope with Vista Home. Far too many people make out it's far, far weaker than Vista Business when it really isn't that much less functional.

That said, I'm sticking with XP Pro!

I wouldn't change it, TBH. You don't need the 128MB graphics card, and a C2D running at 2.2GHz is fast enough for almost any multiple applications you can think of at present. I reckon that for your needs, you have a pretty decent package, for a very decent price.
#38
Sweet Chuck - Thanks again for the responses.

With regards to your reply to me, I was more concerned about the looks, but thats fine I've seen pictures etc. I was just wondering if anyone had received theirs and had any thoughts.

I ordered mine last night with with the 1440 Truelife, 256MB nvidia and dell remote and it came to 457. Minus the quidco should come to 435. Top deal!!!!

With regards to the top end processor, memory HDD. I doubt for what most people will use this for it will make much of a difference except maybe for some intensive gaming. Memory is expandable to 3GB for further £50. HDD no worries - cheap as chips these days.

Could have ordered the XPS 1730 and paid well over a grand, and in comparison this is perfect!!!!

Thank you Sweetchuck. I am very convinced now with what you have said.
I think I should not visit HUKD at least for 6 months :whistling:.

What do you guys think of this setup? Use AutoCAD alot at home with big drawings so need abit of power and a good resolution.

I think it seems a gd price when looking at other laptops on the market with similar spec.
