Thanks MikeT. Problems posting due to the new look - will take some getting used to. Anyway, good deal . I went for the deal you posted last week ie the 1520. Unfortunately the delivery date has been put back to January 2008!!!

Merry Christmas all.

Teerex

Edited as it may put members off the deal as teerex had the price wrong.

Thanks MikeT. Problems posting due to the new look - will take some getting used to. Anyway, good deal but actually £587 incl Dell's extortionate delivery fees. I went for the deal you posted last week ie the 1520. Unfortunately the delivery date has been put back to January 2008!!!

Merry Christmas all.

Teerex, dont rely on the date they gave you for the 1520. I too had 2nd January 2008 (I knew they wouldnt deliver then as the factory will be shut down over Christmas) Anyway when I rang up they said the delivery had now changed to February!

:( I've been given a delivery date of 24th December but it's still just sitting in pre-production, I suppose that means I haven't a hope of getting it on Christmas Eve?

This deal is still on and is £527 delivered, free delivery finishes 19th Dec.

Please follow my deals right through to checkout before saying the price is wrong or its expired, someone may miss a good deal if they read the comments and incorrectly assume the deals over.
Delivery is no doubt going to be after Xmas now on these though.

Apologies o great one  My enthusiasm got the better of me.

Seeing as this has free delivery and my 1520order last week with similar specs but an upgraded screen (1140 x 900), bluetooth and midnight blue cover (I know,) cost me about £563, do you think this is a better deal? i don't know what the Vostro is like but it seems to basically be a black Inspiron with Vista business rather than home premium. Dont know what to do now. Any ideas MikeT or anyone else? This would save me about £35. Hang on, thinking about it, the Inspiron is probably better isn't it.

I'm tying myself up in knots here

Probably better to keep the Inspiron on order, you would go to the back of the line again if you reorder.

Nice Deal. Very tempted.

Might be worth adding something to the main post to indicate that the delivery discount only kicks in at Checkout. That isn't always the way on Dell pricing, so people may be expecting otherwise and vote cold mistakenly.

I added in the better screen and the 2.2 processor and did XP Pro, all in came to about £650

If you’re unsure whether you want Vista Business or XP Pro I suggest you order it with Vista Business as within the license for Vista Business & Ultimate (not Home editions) you are entitled to downgrade to XP Pro for free and also to reinstall Vista in the future. You aren’t licensed to dual boot though.

Dell sent me XP Pro discs for my Vista Business machines which arrived today and they didn’t even charge postage!
You might have to ring around the departments as most of the people I talked to at Dell didn’t know about this official Microsoft policy. I even spoke to someone at Microsoft about this and he denied all knowledge of this policy. I suppose it is a bit embarrassing for them.

JUst a thought....

The assus laptop deal for £499.99 a couple of weeks ago, werent that better as that had 250gb for a similar price.

Just woundering as I was so tempted to buy it but persuaded my self to wait til after xmas, and not many people were actually buying it. Where as this one seems to have a less of memory but peope are buying it. Am I missing something here?

aplogIES if I am wrong or I have missed something 'spectacular'

Dells sales and customers service not much good though... ordered a Vostro 1400 from previous deals asked sales person about inbuit HSPDA as I am on T-Mobile.. She assured me no need to add the express card option as only for vodaphone and my sim will work by just putting it in... guess what it doesn't because you still need the express card. I contacted their customer service to advise mis-sold was told to contact tech support.. trouble is I am at work and they close when I get home.. tried to use the onlinel support option but it picks up the service tag id takes and me to the US site which tells me my laptop purchased in EU and to go to that site.. there is no menu option to go to that site.. I am in limbo with a machine that I can't use for mobile internet and no way of getting online tech support. Also glossey screens are very to find out .... Be very wary of Del. Prices are not the cheapest when you take into account lousy service

Above is what you would have got installed inside your laptop had you ordered the Integrated Mobile Broadband. All the vostro's have to sim card slot, but require the card to work. This leaves the express card slot free for other uses.
It is possible to buy the Dell 5520 card from elseware and fit it yourself should you wish to, normally cheaper than dells pricing too.

Hello Mike

I see that your recommendations are from the Business site - Vostros not featuring on the retail site. Can you please advise the pros and cons of dealing business?
#25
I am trying to choose between vostro 1700 and inspiron 1720.

Both come out at almost the same price and I know I have mentioned this before but I didnt get a conclusive answer as to which one to go for.

I will be buying it under my business so both come out to around £550 with the spec I want.

But which one to go for?

This deal is available from the home site, if it were from the SB site then you would need to be sure you wanted it before ordering as no free returns and the dsr is different from sb site.
[mod]#27
Vivaki, 1700 and 1720 are pretty much the same except for colour and things like spill proof keyboard and a bit more metal casing on the Vostro, take a read of dells blurb on both.

Mike Thanks for this. Been away so only just seen this. I found out that this is what I should have got and actually asked about this at the time of ordering. The point is that their salesperson said it was not required for T-Mobile and went on to say only for vodaphone and I trusted her. I was badly mis-informed and they are not responding to my complaint. Also fitting these cards yourself ain't easy as keyboard would need to be removed and replaced so potential to damage the machine. I just want to warn people to be careful of Dell as you can't just take the machine back as online only and if they ignore you, it's time consuming especially if you are a full time worker. They may be cheap but they are not that great when you equate quality of service to price. Be careful
