This looks like a better Vostro 1500 deal than MikeT posted; that doesn’t happen every day. Nice one.

This looks like a really good deal to me, but one thing, does anyone know how good the graphics are on this? I know laptops aren't really designed for gaming but I still want to play some on it, anyon eknow if this will be any good?

Cheers
Josh

The X3100 is the fastest of Intel's integrated graphics, good for 2d and video but slow for 3d graphics.
Two reviews from Tech.co.uk and Notebook Review.

The qestion is... is this better than the similar TL60 model that was posted ?
Not sure which processor is better? A 1.4 C2D cant be much better for st andard tasks than a 2ghz AMD can it? S:

The Vostro 1500 is a well built machine for this price; the AMD based Dell’s tend to be lower quality from my limited experience.
The 2GHz AMD CPU will be faster than the Intel at 1.4GHz. You can always bump the CPU to 1.6GHz and forgo the 9 cell battery and extra disk space and save a little bit of money as well. The OP only bumped the spec to get the free postage but you can upgrade any which way you like.
The 9 cell batteries stick out of the back of these quite a bit which I find rather unappealing. Unless you really need the extra juice I’d go with the 6 cell.

why cant I find any mention of vostro on the dell website?

They are usually listed in the section for Businesses and not Home Users.

Just been looking at the Vostro 1500 again. If you upgrade it to having the 128MB nVidia® GeForce® 8400M GS graphics you'll have better gaming performance (which was the one thing lacking to me) and it comes to £420 overall delivered.

No Need to upgrade the specs to make the ex-VAT price above £329. I just bought the base spec which was ex-VAT £299 and at the checkout noticed the free delivery (£60 off) offer being applied.

Look what I got for £351.33

Just how much does the 9cell battery stick out?
Presumably the notebook still sits flat on a table. If you are using it on your lap, does it become a problem then?

3cm at the back according to the Dell website. There is even a picture of it there. I dont think it would be a practical problem at all - but it does spoil the look a little.
#13
Thanks, I searched for it on the dell site but must have missed it, can you point me in the right direction please?

Of course the system is wrong but it would be funny if it were true

I think ill be ordering this one tomorrow as I need a laptop for april. Unless anyone has good reason that this is not the cheapest these are gonna get.
[mod]#20
Still available at this price this week.
#21
Thing is, you click "help me choose" - when you eventually find it on the configuration page, and it tells you sod all !!

Think I'm going to go for this one, I'm adding the builkt in camera and truelife LCD for £392.45

Is there a better spec machine for the same money or the same spec for less that I can't see!
#22
I wouldnt get Truelife personally. On My Uncles Compaq with their equivalend screen it is too shiny and just makes it reflect all of the background light around you. Makes it difficult to see the screen at times.
#23
Interesting, I'm assuming it's a better thing as it costs more. Don't know what to do now

So presumably, if theres two or three people trying to look at photos on the screen then only the person in the middle going to see them?
#24
Not su much that - the viewing angles are fine, but if you have a window behind you in the day even if you are looking stright on then you have issues seeing it because of the reflections. To get the benefit you need to be in a dark room with no light source behind you...
#25
I see, thanks for that, I'll stick with standard screen then!

I would trot down to PC world and take a look at some screens and make up your own mind, its a very individual thing. I have both here and much prefer the truelife.
#27
Cheers Mike already ordered, at least I know what I'm getting instead of risking regreting it :)

My third great Dell purchase via the pages here - keep it up everyone
#28
This has gone down by £20 now making it an even better deal then it was yesterday. Or you can add the truelife display and the media remote for the same price (~£350).

A tip for people who already bought it, phone dell and complain that its now cheaper and they should give you the extra cash back.
#29
Typical, I order one this afternoon and two hours later it go's down £20 :whistling:

If the free delivery is still on tomorrow and not withdrawn I'll get on the phone and whinge:thumbsup:

Still I usually hang around too long and deals expire :-D

Nice one Emasu :)
#31
wow i cant beleive it , for 445 you can have one with an 8600gt in it; im pretty sure thatll be good enough to run bf2!

is there a catch, do i have to be a business to buy it? do they check?
#32
will this be good enough to replace my ageing desktop?I've got a 17in lcd screen i dont think i could come down to a 15in
banned#33
I was offered a different notebook last week whilst the interest free for 6months offer was on but I decided against. This is a great deal though and they still have a record of my last query. Do you think there is anything I can say/do to get them to offer me the interest free option on this one even though it's finished now?

nope, this has an extra 20 quid off.

Btw I ask again, anyone know if it is ok to order this to a home addy?
#38
How is this cheaper than yesterday's deal ? I ordered this spec yesterday with added Truelife screen and its the same price 345... any idea ??
#39
Yes, you can order to a home address. Dell don't care whether or not your a business (plus many people run small businesses from their homes!). One point to make though is that as a business customer, you don't have the right to return it within 7 days if you don't like it. You can also order it to another address other than the card holders, even though they say you can't. It worked for me, although it was a visa debit, and not credit.

This deal was first posted by Emasu over a week ago. Brains posted same deal two days ago !
