Laptop prices are falling like rocks...
#3
Great find, and its available with Windows XP too

Does the 1510 have an s-video output? It's not mentioned on the tech spec but the old 1500 did, and it seems strange to remove it. Thanks.

good.

Plus consumer spending is reducing so they have to attract customers with nice prices, and the advance of technology :)

This is really cheap for the Spec! Great find.. heat added :-D !!
#7
what does the 6 cell mean? Is that a decent battery?

Can someone clear up a query I have please?
I bought a 1510 at the now expired deal price of £281. The spec stated Intel Core 2 Duo, but the badge on the laptop says Centrino. Have I been had here, or is the Core 2 Duo a Centrino? I had expected a Core 2 Duo badge.
Secondly, can anyone advise a novice like me how to check what the spec actually is and what components are installed?

Anybody going for the option "19in 1908WFP WIDESCREEN UK/Irish Black (1440 x 900) TCO99 DVI-D Height Adjustable [add £44,444.00 or £1,516/month1]" ???!!! :)
#10
Centrino is the combination of:

CPU
Motherboard
Wireless

To earn the Centrino badge all the parts have to be signed off by Intel to be upto scratch.

So yes it is Core 2 Duo, and it should be a decent quality mainboard too.

5% quidco on this as well.
#12
Amazing deal. So much hardware for your money.

In the memory option I'd select "2048MB (1x2048) 667MHz DDR2 Single Channel [Included in Price]" this leaves the other memory slot free for a future upgrade.
#14
I believe the other offer had Vista Business as standard so better OS

Means they have larger better batteries, on some dells though the 6 cell battery sticks out of the front of the case though.

I hate dell's but I love the spec ! WTD! :-s
#17
What's the delivery like?

This is a business deal... your return rights, etc are not the same... don't know the technicalities but a LOT different than buying from dell's home website...

just thought I'd mention it in case some bought it and then thought they want to return it...
#19
How do you choose XP?
#20
I don't think I can as I looked for the option. Vista with SP2 is quite good though!

Fantastic deal, well done!

I know there's pretty much no difference between single and dual channel, but if it wasn't for free I'd argue against that, you're not going to need more than 2GB in this machine, and that's if it even supports more - you're in a grey area after 3gb on a 32 bit OS.

Funny how even the most basic machines now ship with 2GB, even if we're still doing the same basic word processing and internet tasks as before, but i guess that's progress.

good price

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5670 (1.8 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB) doesnt even show up on the benchmark site i use, or on Intels website (my dad said)

My sister is interested in this, been saving for yonks, and blowing all her savings on a laptop when she has a gaming desktop, just like i did in Febuary!

I'm struggling to bring up the Dell website - can anyone see what the weight of the laptop is, in kgs? Thanks.

Anyone know if you can get XP as an operating system on the laptop? I cannot see it as an option.

hi, i dont see it on the selection , do u have to ring up?

I use a dell Inspiron 1720 for work and when playing music it stutters quite a bit, even after formatting. Spec is better than the one in this thread. My son has a Vostro similar spec, and when listening to music through headphones there is lot of buzz, a common problem apparently with Dell machines.

As a business tool they seem fine so heat added but for multimedia I'd look elsewhere.

I believe if you buy vista business you can ask for a free 'downgrade' to XP when you get your hardware... best to call and check though.

my (about 4 year) old Dell inspiron 510m has always crackled through the headphone socket - I read that it is because Dell have a habit of putting the headphone jack near other connections which cause interference...

Do you have to pretend you're a small business to order from the small business section? Will i need to make up a phony Business name???
#34
Emasu mate this is an awarsome deal Voted Hot.
#35
i think that the headphone issue has been fixed for this version

Laptop seems a good overall improvement over the 1500

Put your surname in the Business name field & 'Home' in the 'where you're going to be using it' field.

You're probably right, but with Vista it's wise to have a slot free, just in case you need to add a little bit more in the future, even 1Gb.

A few specific factors probably influencing that - Vista needs the extra memory, memory is cheap & the customer wants it.

If I needed a basic laptop I would buy this!

I had a similar problem with sound on Vista, try this

Control Panel
Sound
Click on the Playback device then Properties
Enhacements Tab
Disable all enhancements

Give that a try, it worked for me when my music stuttered towards the end of a song.

How does this Dell compare to the Acer 5720 on sale at Play.com?

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/654/861/-/3477577/Acer-Aspire-5720-Core-2-Duo-T5250-1-5GHz-2GB-80GB-15-4-DVD-SM-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook/Product.html?searchtype=genre#

Better in every way? Does anyone know what the standard warranty is with the Acer from Dell?
