Can cancel by telephone or send an email to customer services, asking for a reply that they've done it. Can tell them you've found a better offer, they're used to it. It might take a while for the credit refund to show up on your card though so you might end up with double the debit for a while if you re order straight away. Can do a new order on the telephone if you want, but I would do it by Internet because I want my 5% quidco refund. Main thing about doing b by telephone is that they sometimes have extra options that are not available online. Some of the sales people can be annoying though, trying to tell you how great their Macafee anti virus upgrade is :?

Whats the quality of the Vostro range, is it as good as the inspiron & will this play games ?

also does anyone have some pictures of one so we can see what they are like.
#4
I think the GS card should be ok for games although don't know how much different it is to the GT version but I woudl imagine games should be playable although at a lesser resolution than the GT. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M.html and do a comparison.
I got a Vostro (1000) a few weeks ago for a family member and I couldn't belive how nice it was, looks wise and noise...it's practically silent which is great.
Picture wise, just go to Dell website but trust me it's a nice bit of kit.

Twas a little glitch, should be ok again now. Works for me.

Dell offered me a 240gig drive 2 x 120gig but with the cpu reduced to a 1.6gig T5470 800fsb for the same price (with a usb floppy thrown in) for same price what do you think is the T5470 much slower

There seems to be a problem with the 'go to deal' links for Dell deals at the moment. If it's not working for you try this link:

What is the voucher for? It's not working for me.

Minimum Spend: £300
Expiry: 25/01/2008

I ordered a Vostro 1700 from the other deal on Tuesday evening for a friend (along with a Vostro 1500 for another friend). I'm now wondering if it's worth the hassle of trying to cancel the 1700 from the original order and re-ordering the new deal.

Quidco for original order is tracking at ~£35 (£695 vat price) but if I cancel part of the order I may end up loosing the total quidco to save £25 from the new Vostro 1700 deal (speced the same system as orignal 1700 order). Is it possible for Dell to credit the difference back to my CC without cancelling the order?

Mine doesn't seem to take a money off for that discount code, finds it (Dell Crazy Deal) but no reduction to the price. I'm on Basket page.

Aagh, you need to be logged on to the Business site to get the discount code to work.

You need to be in the small business site for the 5% voucher to work I just got a price of £445.38 delivered for this threads ecode with 1yr warranty

Hi,

Just on the order page and it says "leasing over 24 months /month(ex. VAT)" underneath my total, when I go through to the Business I get the leasing stuff, if i go through to HOME (so cant use code) it doesn't say anything.

Do you actually NEED to be a Business to order them though?
#15
*** removed - got it working! Great deal.

(I say that, the discount code isn't doing anything - even after I'm ensured I'm logged into the business section...)
#16
just tried it on the small business site did not work got pop up aying coupon not valid or incorrectly spelt have tried it with an oh and a nought at the end not sure which is correct ... what am I doing wrong
#17
Apart from eligibilty to use that specific discount code (the 5% one mentioned above), what are the implications of using the business section rather than the home one? I presume they don't actually check it's for business purposes? I also vaguely recall reading on another thread that some chap was wishing he hadn't used the business option for some reason (to do with warranty, or not being allowed to cancel his order or something).

Offer ends: 30 Jan 2008

I new this would happen! As my 1720 gets dispatched, a better and cheaper laptop arrives! Does anyone know how the inspirons compare with the vostros? Thanks
#20
Does anyone have any idea how this deal compares to the Vostro 1500 NB(N0115005) deal on another thread?

I realise this is a bigger screen, but overall is it a better machine/ deal and can we use the 10% off code on this?

Thanks

Anyone can order through Sb, just put your name in place of the business name.

Be sure you want what you order though as there are no free returns on SB your consumer rights are not quite the same there.

The Core 2 speed on this Vostro 1700 is slightly faster than what is being offered on the Vostro 1500. Obviously, bigger screen size as you said. You get Vista Home Premium on this Vostro 1700, whereas your getting Vista Business on thw 1500.

Way I am looking at it is as follows: if you need a big screen, go for this one.

Has anybody tried calling dell up to see if they can get a better price/offer on this spec?

Its just I want to upgrade the graphics to the 8600gt, except that costs an extra £65 whereas for an extra £100 you can get the upgrade to 8600gt, upgraded hard drive to 2x160gb and the T7500 and Vista Business (easily worth another £35).

Can't seem to get that code to work on the Small Business site.

With the 0% finance option on the Small Business site, is there any catch or will you genuinely pay the same price as if you paid in full now?

Cheers

That code wont work, because its only on Inspiron and XPS systems.
#26
Argh! Cannot seem to get my coupons to work! I am logged into my account and still no joy! Any ideas peeps?

Dunno, the 5% off one works for me, you need to be in the small business section of the website and logged in.

Not sure if its only valid on orders of 499 or above though?

Thanks for that, but I was just wondering about that Leasing thing. When i purchase this through the Business site it comes up with that leasing thing underneath... and I can't see anywhere to actually choose leasing so is this offer only cheap cause its a lease contract?

Or is that just there to give us the option and there is somewhere to click lease rather than buy?

Correct!

I think I'm personally going for the higher spec offer. I'll flog the extra hard drive on Ebay for £45, which should leave me with the upgrade to 8600gt, upgrade to T7500 and Vista Business, for just an extra £55.

If your upgrading the N0117012 link is better (i think)

If you want this, be prepared to wait for it - "Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 26/02/2008", that's with just the standard setup and a travel remote (maybe due to the 6 cell battery, although it didn't mention a problem with it on this offer).

As i'm in no rush for it, I don't mind waiting... although would it be worth calling Dell to see if it's the battery that's delaying it, and if so if they can change it to the other? What's the best (i.e. cheapest) number to call about this, as may have to use mobile...

gonna give em a call from work in a few minutes to see if they can do anything.

It's a computer. It's a means to an end. Surely the most important thing is how it performs over how it looks?! It's not as though it's something that is going to have pride of place on the mantle piece when it's not in use now is it...?

So is almost any other laptop... lol

I know what you mean but I don’t find it quite that bad. What bugs me about the black Vostro laptops is the way they show up fingerprints so easily. They can start to look tatty quite quickly.

Tried to cancel my original vostro order (£504) but was told I can't cancel as it's been dispatched !
Only solution appears to be to return that for refund and get this deal, Anyone done that before ?
Any advice on how easy it is to return Dell stuff & get refund. Saving will be around £60 + case
Thanks
#38
This laptop looks like a good deal, how come it's so much cheaper than and equivalent Inspiron (in fact, it's cheaper that a lesser spec Inspiron), is it just because it probably doesn't appeal to the home user as much (even though peformance would be better)?

Also, I saw that someone said the warranty is different if you're a business user (i.e. having to pay for returns), I looked at the warranty section of the website, I couldn't really see a difference between the home & business users, or is there two separate sections of the website I should be looking at?

I would be ordering it for use by the business anyway, but just wondering what the warranty specifics are.

Thanks.

To get dsr (distance selling regulation) rights you have to order this through the Dell home site, not the Dell business site. Even though Vostros are in the Dell business range, by using the ecode, you can order them from the Dell Home site and thus get all the dsr rights including being able to return the laptop within 7 days of receiving it if you just change your mind. The link I posted earlier:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&l=en&oc=N0117011&s=dhs
takes you to this deal via the Dell home site.

Of course If you are a business ordering it and don't want to pay VAT then you order via the Dell business site and you have no dsr rights.

As to why it is cheaper than Inspirons, Dell often offer their business machines at a discount but then you don't get the choice of colours etc.

Quidco's already validated at £20.20, so that's nice :)
