Very nice, this Vostro 1700 is a great alternative to the 6400 order I messed up, although a sub £600 Vostro 1500 would be nicer :-D
#6

so £35 saving by going for 1gb, personally on Vista I'd want 2gb. and it would cost over £60 buy 2x1gb sticks to put into this, but still v good.
#7
Ordered this base spec Vostro 1700 @ £622.82
+ Matte jet Black Cover with 2mp web camera - £23.50
+ 9 cell battery + £11.75
+ 802.11nn mini wireless card + £23.50

£681.57 Total

This is for a family friend who trusted me to get them a good deal and I was scared this might disappear considering it was nearly £800 for something similar before today from my experimenting over the last few days and how close it's pricing is today vs. it's younger brother the 1500

Snooze you lose :)
[mod]#8
Yes pretty sure either this 17" or the 15" with same spec is priced wrongly, you guess which cause I aint going to ;-)
#9
Mike are there any Vostro Desktop deals coming through today? Cheers.
#10
Also £23 quidco for me... :D
#11
Damn .. just specced up this against the Acer 5920 I ordered and it comes out the same but with a larger better res screen.

Its only the lack of HDMI output that is holding me back cancelling and ordering this.
#12
Order Acknoledgement
&
Order Confirmation with ETA of 15th August e-mails from Dell

Doesn't look like much of a misprice as it's still £622 on 1 year warranty for 2gb ram 17" midrange dell is v good.

After quidco that's UNDER £600.....

PS: Does anyone know how I can speed up that delivery date? Nearly 3 weeks takes the biscuit a bit...
#13
It should be noted, darthwebs £587 delivered 1gb of this = £22.48 on quidco so ultimately £564 for a midrange quality dell laptop with 17" screen...
#14
Has anyone tried calling them up and haggling them down even more? I'd quite like the 8600M graphics card and bluetooth. Should cost an extra £60 but you could probably easily get that chucked in for free if you talk to a willing telesales agent.

I wonder if you can order via the internet to get the quidco and then call them afterwards?
#15
It comes with bluetooth 1.1 I think, v2 will be flash in the pan as wireless usb will take over.

Interesting none the less carleast, I might call them tomorrow, I did go via quidco.
#16
So you bought it over the internet through quidco how can you haggle over the phone after you've already paid for the lappy?
#17
nice lappy Mike but any serious gamer should consider this alternative

Nice pc but it's only 15.4". The Vostro is 17" which more than makes up for the fact that it has a slower processor.
#19
That zoostorm is nice, but vast majority of laptop users do not game and carleast is right really.

Yep, you call up and threaten to cancel. They will often give you a discount or throw in some upgrades or free accessories. Not all of them will do it though so you may need to call a few times. Then when you get it you do the same. You call up and tell them you don't want it. You may get another discount to save them picking it up for free.
#22
I would try what carleast suggest but the order was not for me and so can't risk possible further delay or accidentally cancelling the order!

If anyone who has ordered does try it please post what happened and what deal you go.
#23
Can someone please tell me how to find this by typing in the the e-value code. It's not finding anything when I try and put the code it.
#24
E-Value Code: 305-N0717002 ?

E-Value Code: 305-N0717002 ?

But how do I type it in to the code box? There are two sections and when I seperate the 305 from the rest it doesn't find anything.
#26
305 and N0717002 worked for me

as well as searching for N0717002 in the top right search box
#27
Got it. Not sure why it wasn't working. Maybe just a bit of idiocy from me.

Cheers
#28
Let us know how you go :)

I think I'm going to cancel my Inspiron and get this Vostro instead, the only thing is the Business edition of Vista and I really want to get glossy screen but that option is only available with the higher resolution screen which costs £100 more. on notebookreviews.com people have been reporting to get the Home Premium edition over the phone so I was wondering if I could do the same with my screen and OS edition.

But maybe I should try calling them up saying that i want to cancel my system in favour of vostro or some other system and the price will drop.
#30
Called them about 20mins ago.
Was told I was unable to swap it from Vista Buiness to Vista Home Premium as suggested earlier and I thought was a good idea and that the estimate of mid August was wrong and it should be delivered in the 1st week of August.

I was tempted to try and cancel to get better deal, but I wanted no possible further delay.
#31
Am thinking of ordering one of these, but with an upgraded graphics card, and battery. I am a first time buyer, does anybody have a voucher to help reduce the price?
1 Like #32
no voucher, use quidco for 4.5% of taxless cost which should give you £20 minimum.

next best thing is order, and call within 2h saying you want to cancel they should offer you a couple of free upgrades possibly.

I rang regarding this machine this morning

They have removed the anti virus software and given me a £27 discount. Web Price is £722, they offered £695. What do you guys think. He said because the offer of free upgraded memory was included and it was such a new model he couldn't do anything else.

Is this a good price or not? He's taken my details and emailed it to me, what do you guys think. He was pretty adament this was the only deal on the table.

Looks just ok to me, I would think there is a fair demand for this ecode so they can afford to be picky on how much discount they give.
By my maths you would be better off buying on line with the web price and Quidco cashback

Mike T, if I downgrade to Home Premium I can save another £17. I won't use it for business, is it worth it?

How much Quidco will I get back on a £722 online price?
[mod]#36
Quidco is 4.5% of the pre vat amount (delivery excluded) as a home user Premium will have more advantages for you than Business.

Still discussing it with them, trying to get a further £20 off. Will keep you posted.

Just waiting for the final call to place the order but I am paying £659 for this

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 Processor (1.8GHz,800MHz,2MB L2 cache)

Dell™ Wireless 355 Bluetooth 2.0 Module (up to 3Mbps) with Enhanced Data Rate, for Vista

Can't thank this site enough, yes I made a couple of small reductions by losing Vista Business and McAfee but basically I have lost nothing. I have gained a better battery, bluetooth, great graphics card, build in camera and saved £62. The guy named Vir who I have dealt with in the call centre has been a star.

Thanks to all who have posted messages, and especially Mike T for his prompt replies this morning so I knew how far to push.

Just wish he'd ring back now......

All sorted now, estimated delivery 24/8/07, ah well can't have evrything!

Ordered case for this Vostro 1700:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/77155
http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Belkin+NE-01&btnG=Search+Products

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1272/mcd9110814ih1.jpg

Similar from Dell seemed to be £50-£60+ which was a shame, but that should do the job well.
