Well they finally came up with the system I wanted, and with Quidco it comes out at under £700 which is an excellent price.
Only trouble is that the build time is 4 weeks and I move to Spain in 3.

Give them a ring... you never know

Added heat and rep as this is a cracking deal.

However, I am looking for a deal on a similar spec'd notebook from dell but with a much smaller screen size. 17" is way to big for me to carry around, 14" or smaller would be ideal.

Any leads on a notebook with a smaller screen?

EDIT: I really should look at the forum before typing :) Thanks guys.

I ordered this exact spec 2 days ago for £622 with the same lead time. Will be cancelling when their reps get in at 9am.

Thought of that but the machine really needs 2 weeks burn in time to be safe.
The thought of dealing with Dell from Spain should the laptop go wrong really doesnt bear thinking about :x
#8
I'm so tempted
#9
Bumping this one as its on page 5 already and I think it is the best deal on here atm laptop wise.
Ignoring my spec all it really needs is the upgraded graphics card.

How do you cancel an order with DELL. Ordered the same system for £660 last friday, can now get it for £633 minus quidco. Which is just over £600.

Can I cancel my order or will I have to accept my loss as it's over 7 days since ordering.

If I can definatley cancel is it worth ordering tonight incase the price changes, maybe MIKE T could help with this one.

You will be able to cancel. Even if they have shipped, it would be within your rights (under long distance selling) to return it. Relax. Cancel and place a cheaper order!!!!;-)

I placed the order over the phone. Is that the way I have to cancel.
#12
Ordered this for relative on 26th July, I would cancel and reorder if they didn't need it soon.
#13

Phone up and threaten to cancel unless they let you have it for the current price .. I don't see why they shouldn't.

I placed my order over the phone and am not a business customer can I cancel. If so will I need to do this over the phone? Despite a 4 week delay they have already taken payment.

Called dell sales on 0870 1524699, pressed, 3, got told they're closed basically

Might try on monday to edit old order to new price

Hi, does anyone know where to look on the dell site for the connectivity of these laptops, i was going to buy a samsung R70 santa rose which has hdmi out, do the dell systems have hdmi out and how does the R70 compare to the dell 1700 that is on this post.
#21
I do not think Dell has picked up on HDMI/DV-HDCP outputs yet, I expect multimedia laptops in time for xmas might have and become standardised next year once other makes make it more regular.

No the Dells do not have HDMI which is why I never bought one.
Total madness if you ask me.
#23
thx guys, looks like it'll be the Sammy or the Acer

Well I started with looking at the Samsung but was put off by the graphics card which is nothing special, took a passing interest in the Dell until i realised there was no HDMI output .... then went to the Acer 5720 T7300 version with DVI out and then finally settled on the Acer 5920 which I ordered.
Comet have it for £799.99 atm plus you can use Quidco .. I know its the same price as everywhere else but if you have a problem with it then it can go back to your nearest branch.

Then I saw this : http://www.rockdirect.com/viewNotebook.php?pName=PEGASUS%20670&UID=MAILER_p670
:w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

And promptly cancelled the Acer
Better screen resolution, better graphics card (same as 5920 but uses DDR3 memory) and built in bluetooth. Only downside is it needs an extra gig of memory.
#25
guv
I would say the other downside is the fact its double the price!!!!!!!!!

Indeed, and if the Dell had HDMI (and not had such a long build time) I would have probably bought the one I listed at the beginning of this thread.

Just seems daft to me that such a powerful laptop which could be used as a media centre at home should not have HDMI .. it seems every other Santa Rosa spec laptop has it.

Dell today cancelled my order for me. I was paying £660 for a machine that included extras.

I am currently trying to strike a new deal.
#27
What was there reason for not matching the new price?

Said they couldn't do it on an excisting order thats been agreed.
#29
Fast reply :)

And ok, suppose it's only a £60 difference and if you can delay you should, it's a shame I can't.
#30
Lol. I tried to order the one on the 27th July. Then I cancelled it and called them up to barter a deal. I manged to get them to know £75 off the spec that I wanted compared to the website but they messed up the refund on the first order so I haven't been able to order yet. The spec is now the same price before bartering so I'm going to see what they have to say.

By the way, most of the discount on the previous price seems to come from free postage (£60). The beauty of that is that you should be able to call up once the laptop arrives and try and get even more off. The reason for this being that they've given you free postage so if they take it back they have to refund you in full rather than take off the postage.

Great deal!!!

Ok guys, I managed to get the basic machine, with 1 year warranty
plus

Vista Home Premium (£23.50 saving from Vista Business)
256MB GeForce 8600M GT
9 Cell Lithium Battery
Bluetooth
Next Gen Wireless N Mini Card (Managed to talk him in to putting in free - saved £11)

All for £609.83

Despite losing Quidco I got the operating system I wanted plus the Wireless N card. Couldn't haggle a bag out of him though. Total saving since my initial quote 7 days ago £113!! I'm happy just waiting email confirming.

Respect to Mike T for posting the initial thread.
#32
Not sure if this has been noted but free delivery to Business Customers on the 1700.

Doesnt matter which site you look at, the price delivered is the same and dell are offering free delivery on both sites for this ecode anyway.

Any idea how long confirmation of order takes?

Last week confirmation came immediately.

Did you email customer service as I can not see an email for Sales?

Also with regard to the Dell finance deals. They have a pay Feb 2008 option. Can you pay up the entire balance for your PC at the original cost price before this date? It is not clear if you take this option that you are tied to pay your PC off monthly by installments.
#39
I asked them that a couple of weeks ago basically your tied to their finance.
#40
Quite fancy this laptop but has it got a digital out with at least DVI with HiDef Content Protection or preferably HDMI ?
