quidco.co.uk is a cash back website, if you sign up with them and then use the link to the dell site you will get 5% back on the price before VAT.
There are lots of cash back websites the reason quidco is popular is they give you 100% of the cashback, and only charge a £5 annual admin charge, only paid when you have earnt enough to cover it.
It's free money, I have earnt over £150 in a year, dell cash back, book club, house insurance, play.com etc.

Mike I have ordered this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131769, do you think it is worth swapping...ie will it come any quicker do you think? I know the one I have ordered is a slightly better spec for a few quid less, but the delays concern me.

I really dont have a clue as to what the delivery time will be for this, if your card can stand it you could always order it and then see which comes first and cancel the other :whistling:

Is there a cancellation fee with Dell?

I'm with Agent_Silver on this one although I suppose it was only 8 days ago that I ordered it so might give it until next week before making any cancellations. Supposidly it is keyboards they are running short on so not sure if any lappys will be delivered more quickly than others. :x

This looks good MikeT. I'm just wondering if this will be able to play games like call of duty 4, counterstrike and team fortress well?

I have the same vostro 17" but with the 256meg card and that even manages Crysis at 53fps ave with low eye candy at a res of 800x600 full screen if that helps ;-)
I would always spend just that bit more for the best card available as you will always wish you had later.

Thanks MikeT. In your opinion. Do you think that I should just get the £316 deal for my standard computing and perhaps buy an xbox for online gaming? Will the console give better better graphics and gameply over laptop gaming?

No good asking me that, never had an xbox, but a good graphiced notebook will have good resale value and play most games with all eye candy on.

good deal there mike as allways, I ca recomend this lappy also I got the 17vostro with 2.2 c2d and 256gt and play cs source on it most nights without any problems at all. didnt see what the screen was on this one mine has the high res screen and is really great picture, some say the res is to high for normal browsing etc but i have had no trouble.

Martin

edit: just realised the screen and it is slightly lower than mine but still good all the same, also noticed this has 3gig ram, mike any idea the cost of taking out a 1gig modual and replacing it witht he 2 gig ram making 3gig. or just to use a fast external memory stick and use that vista feature to boost the ram???

Is there any reason you cant add trulife screens to the Vostro 1700 but you can to the Inspiron 1720?

I'm not sure they have never been an option on the Vostro but in general Truelife isnt offered on business machines and that is what this is primarily aimed at.
#24
Cheers for the answer MikeT, but i had noticed it was an option on the Vostro 1500. What does the plus sign(+) stand for at the end of the WXGA+ and is it much better than a standard WXGA

Click the "help me choose" alongside the selections for screens when building your dell and a pop up will give the info on all the screens available.

I've ordered the Vostro 1500 but I'm still really tempted to cancel it and buy this. Any advice?
#27
does it have express card slot and if so does that mean card can be updated/replaced later

This is a good deal alot of spec for money! The deciding question between the Vostro 1500 and the Vostro 1700 is will you be using your laptop on the move or moving it often? If your gonna be moving around the 1500 is the option, smaller, lighter, longer battery life. But no mistaking it this is a great deal for the Vostro 1700 for someone that wants a desktop replacement laptop.

Hi, Just tried out this deal but I got a price of £564. Even with the Quidco cashback I don't think it will go down to the price quoted. I've put in the basic warranty but can't seem to get it any lower, I'm I m,issing something ??

Thanks for any advice

I've still no decided whether to pay the extra and buy this. Has anyone used this with one of the TV tuner things and if so are they any good?
#33
That it, thanks folks being a bit slow today :?

Anyone know what sort of weight this is ?

Thanks again
#34
have you reduced the graphic card to 128 meg
#35
Gone for this deal over the Vostro 1500 - thought it worthwhile spending the extra as it will never leave the house and is more gaming friendly. Upgraded to the 8600GT video card and Bluetooth, lot of bang for the buck IMO..

Thanks!

I tried negotiating over this deal ended up being sent a quote for £504.66 with laptop bag and usb foppy thrown in for some reason the processor has dropped to a t5470( says it has 800fsb I thought that processor was 666FSB) however the hard drive has been increased to 240gig (twin 120gig SATA) any thoughts on which is better deal they refuse the extras on origanal deal and wont budge on this one I tried to get the hard drive reduced to 160 gig and the graphic card upgraded from 8400 to 8600 ...no dice
Im unsure which deal to go for would be using for internet, sending storing photos would like tro play some games but not big time music not heavy downloads and watching DVDs ... wondered if could be used with the hdtv tuner Ive seen .....any thoughts much appreciated
