I am SOO tempted!

Oh ****** it - Dell have just got more of my money. They seem to be my second bank

Can't wait for this as I use my laptop almost exclusively and therefore it stays in the house most of the time. I can always buy a cheapo laptop later for portable use.

I don't know if I should thank you or not MikeT, just remember this post when I'm on the street begging for money :giggle:

Very nice price; voted hot.

For a relatively power hungry laptop like this it makes good sense. Although some people don’t like the 9 cell batteries as they usually stick out of the back of the laptop which spoils the design somewhat.

The Dell Travel Remote also seems worth adding for the sake of 6 quid as it fits in the express card slot

What does the travel remote do exactly? Do you use it to control the media player when playing a dvd or something?

Cheers

Hope you remembered Quidco at 5% too.

Also Bluetooth £17.63

Bit more expensive than a USB dongle but a neater solution. And eBay people are buying the module for £20 plus postage!

Ordered the base spec, added 9 cell battery, travel remote and bluetooth. After Quidco it will work out just a touch over £700 which is brilliant considering the power of this machine (And the screen resolution)

Automated Estimated delivery date.

You will get another email in a few weeks with a new delivery date.

With due to a problem from the supplier of parts for this model you new delivery date will be.....

They dont have any 1900x1200 screens until the 23 Nov so it will be about 10 days after this depending on the backlog.

I am not trying to put people off. I just want to make sure you know.

Its a fantastic deal if you can wait.

I got this same deal a coupe of weeks ago. Then they put up the price by about £100 for two weeks. Looks like it's back down again. The 9 cell battery does stick out the back a bit. But it's not really a problem. Especially if it will never leave the house. The trulife screen is superb. Well worth the upgrade in my opinion. The thing is though that I've lowered the screen res to make the icons bigger. If I had the choice I wouldn't have got the WUXGA screen but in order to get trulife you need to also get WUGXA with the Vostro 1700. I would have preferred the option that you get with the 15.4" screens of just having trulife.

I upgraded to the Blutooth module because I have the Logitech Dinovo desktop keyboard and mouse. But after intially working it isn't anymore so I'm not sure why.

Remember that if you call up after receiving this laptop and threaten to return it they may give you a further discount or some free accessories because otherwise they have to collect it for free and then sell it at a discount in the Dell Outlet

Oh, and it only took a week to build and deliver after I ordered it even though it stated 4-5 weeks.

Hi guys, could anyone tell me the difference between this acer laptop (apart from screen size)
http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5920H_Gemstone_Laptop_LX.AN60X.001/version.asp

and the one that Mike T found from del.
thx
#20
Shame it is only available with Vista Business and not Vista Ultimate or even XP Pro options...

I'm not sure about everything, but i can see that this one has a better graphics card.

This is so tempting. I don't know whether to wait til Thursday or to take the plunge now. :?

@jazid - try ringing and asking to change the OS to what you'd like? I priced up a Vostro 1500 and they changed Vista Business to Home Premium on the phone.
banned#23
thanks for the tip, am struggling to get to the checkout though because of these:

Compatibility InstructionsErrors:
The selection - English Documentation with English/Irish Power Cord is incompatible with Microsoft Operating System
The Language of the Shipping Documentation you have chosen does not match your Operating System. To fix this issue please click on the highlighted words to be directed to the appropriate section to modify your selections.

can't get rid of them, there is no selection that will. anyone experienced this or got any ideas?

The free shipping offer ends Wednesday evening, so unless they change the spec/price etc that will be a £60 rise on Thursday straight away

Thats new since last night but it will let you ignore it and get to the summary page then cancel the error box and you can go to checkout without an error warning.
There isnt a problem with the deal its just some quirk on the first page that no doubt will get fixed soon.
banned#26
for this. i just realised after i posted that if i pressed cancel it still took me to the checkout but it's good to know i'm really not buying an incompatible system! i noticed that with your link it's different to if i navigate there myself from the dell website which is strange, for example there is no link to the remote controller unless i follow your link. i'll just ignore this, if i keep going on it's only a matter of time before i ask you to wipe my bum for me.
thanks.

I phoned to cancel my order last time this deal was on about a month ago, as I wasn't happy with the lead time of 4-8 weeks. I got offered the same spec in an Inspiron for £10 cheaper (£690 all inc of VAT and delivery at the time).

Luck of the draw who you speak to, but you can sometimes get an even better deal on the phone to them.

Also, phone Dell via the number you find on http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php if you don't like paying 0870 / 0845 rates.
[mod]#28
ggmdick, Best you use my link or go via quidco to the home site and use the ecode or you will end up on the business site and you dont get the same level of consumer safeguards there.

Need more paper? ;-)
#29
Anyone know how far does the 9 cell battery sticks out of the back and how long the running time is with the 6 and 9?
#30
which is better vistro or inspiron then
#31
That's certainly a tasty spec for the price. I'm not in any particular need for a new laptop (mine's only just having its 1st birthday), but had I not discovered earlier that i'm in financial dire straits I might have been tempted :)
#32
Great bargain this but I can't seem to find the Travel Remote to add it to the order.

Anybody advise please?

Where did you get your information about free shipping ending tonight? I can't see anything on their web site. I may possibly be looking for a new laptop from Dell, but don't want to rush into it.

I suspect the graphics card may be playing up on my Alienware (piece of absolute rubbish btw, don't buy Alienware!*). I'm getting corrupted graphics on the BIOS boot up screens (memory check etc.) and Windows safe mode (only shows W, M, V, T, X and 0 characters - the rest is garbage), and BSOD when loading Windows, but bizarrely the Windows splash screen, and BIOS configuration look fine with no corruption!

*yes I know they are now owned by Dell.

Me too, with quidco and Amex moneyback added to the deal:)

Thanks MikeT.

I went for the plunge (thanks Mike T), having discovered that my Alienware laptop is only compatible with one graphics card which is obsolete now.

Trouble is I started my order at 11:55pm and the price didn't include shipping, and by the time I got to my credit card details it was a minute past, and the £60 shipping had been added! :x

I would just phone up Dell tomorrow, and threaten to cancel the order unless they give you the £60 shipping discount (They should be able to see when your order was placed).

I'm sure they would rather sell a £700 laptop than lose a customer over £60
