Heres a link to the original thread http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86584
The price increased during the last week and the option on the wireless key/mouse changed so I created a new deal for it to keep it tidy.

MikeT, can you tell me or link me to some detailed specs?

Im after knowing how many SATA ports internally, and the max number of internal drives it can take. It says 2 internally 1 externally, but that doesnt make sense...

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know of a way/direct link to track a Dell order through WW? I had a few missed calls yesterday as I was doing important things at work, presumably it was them.

I tried Dell Tracking but the customer number does not match the order number according to that

You think dell will be that stupid.

They get paid a small amount for all the **** software that goes on these. Although they need to pay for XP licences.

Like the trial of Mcafee, they get paid for that.

So you take away XP, you're taking away all of the small bits of money they get. So it'll most likly even out anyway.
#12
yes, you can include the Logitech™ Cordless Desktop™ EX110 - UK/Irish (QWERTY) after you ticking [Mouse Included in Wireless Keyboard and Mouse option] for no extra cost ...

Does anyone know if you can transfer all the parts into a better case ??
Is it all standard (M)ATX stuff or propriatry Dell kit ???

I am quite interested in this deal.

Can anyone give me an idea if I would notice much performance improvement over my current system

Athlon XP2800
1024mb (2x512 ddr3200)
Radeon 9600xt AGPx8 Graphics card
2 x 80GB seriel Maxtor 7200rpm Hard drive
Creative Live value sound card

Running on WinXP.

The deal seems like a cheap way to move on to sata and PCI-E rather than upgrading my old system.
I am a bit lost with new style duo chips is this classed as a budget one (ie like the old Duron or Celeron)

Any help greatley appreciated.
Thanks.

P.S. would you get a physical copy of vista or is it pre-installed with part of the hard drive given up as a recovery section?

You will defiently notice a difference with the new one. Your processor is very dated now. These run at 2GHz with 2 core processors. Great for multitasking. Your ram is half the size of this, and half as slow. The chip isnt a budget one. You can get fast versions of it, but its a top end line.

As far as im aware, it will ship with Vista on the drive, but you get a CD with it on for reinstallation too.

The graphics card isnt great, but it again twice as quick as yours.

Harddrives are kinda irrelevant, but you will get alot more space with this dell deal. Same with soundcards, unless your outputting to a top end stereo system.
#16
I thought I'd mistakenly gone through a different option cos I had the system at £184 until they added VAT and delivery!! This would have been a spectacular deal if there was a free delivery voucher kicking about.
#17
Nalla don't forget this PC is more future proof than your current rig too.
PCI Express graphics cards are the future, say good bye tot he good ole AGP card and get with the future :)
#18
yes I agree nalla - this is a significantly better machine, and if you are planning to spend money on upgrading your old machine then there is little to consider here. I'd buy this (or wait and see if it's improved in a couple of weeks). Best to sell your old machine while it's still worth something - Single core machines seem to be fast becoming a thing of the past...

Hi folks. Is this deal likely to improve greatly if I wait a great couple of weeks?
It seems a great replacement for my ancient P4 setup. Would it be suitable for fairly basic photo and video editing? I guess the business nature is putting me off a little, is that just a title?

Oh the printer you chose is black and white laser. If you want colour, go for a Colour Inkjet.

Why not?

I can understand dells printers being a NONO due to the replacement ink cartridges. But their monitors?

I've had loads of them and never had a problem.

Care to explain why they are bad, rather than just telling people to avoid them?

I didn't mean monitors, I meant either a inkjet or laser printer ;)

I can vouch for the monitors, I only have 6 of them!

Sorry for the stupid question....
Will I need the modem to access the internet?

I am just in the process of switching to Talk Talk and received their wireless router today.

Many thanks

But only in the US?

I know laptops were going to be offered with free OS but haven't seen anything competitive for dsktops.
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

Your wireless router will act as your modem in this circumstance.
As long as you have an onboard NIC port you'll be fine.
Please note almost every PC has one of these ports now.
Do not worry you'll be downloading pron before you know it :giggle:

PS. No such thing as a stupid question, if you need to ask, ask! We got your back at HUKD.

I know it's only in the US, but that's a far bigger market for them than over here.

I haven't actually looked through for the systems offered with Linux, but the picture on the page I linked to has a Desktop and a Laptop computer with Ubuntu on the screen, so it would be odd if there weren't any Desktops for sale with it.

I'm interested in getting this to take over from my current XP Home 1gb 160gbHD Emachines Pentium 4 PC... I'm not sure which OS to go with though. I'd probably have gone with Vista Premium if available (despite returning a PC to ebuyer last week when VP failed to work at all!), and while i'm used to XP Home SP2, is the XP Pro significantly different and worth the extra £58?

I won't use PC for games (except basic online Yahoo Games, etc), but want it mainly as a music player and playing AVIs and DVDs, probably through new 32" LCD tv (this has a PC VGA connection so that should be ok with this?).

Basically, of the available OS's (XP PRo, XP Home, Vista Basic, Business & Ultimate), which would probably suit me best - I don't want to be paying for things i'm not really going to use. Does XP Pro have any of the XP MCE features?

Cheers for any advice, and yet again great work by MikeT in hunting down good offers!

By the way, have any of you ever encountered Zoostorm PCs and how good they are - there seems to be some decent options on these at NextDay PC?

Pro is better than home the only time MCE comes good is if you have internal tunners ive always used Pro and ive had all the other choises. You can get third party programs that do a far better job of dealing with media than MCE like the cyberlink stuff MCE is only as good as the codecs you have installed and even then it wont play some things.

The vista home premium/ultimate i own both and ive used them but always end up going back to Pro at the moment vista has problems and like me you use it for media some things dont work like they should and little things become more of a pain than they should be.

Give it 6 months till they have ironed out all the problems and then make the switch but for now it doesnt offer anything more than the xp family apart from alot of hair pulling when you cant get drivers or other problems and vista also has that digital media rights (DRM correct me if its wrong) thing built in so that will cause problems if you intend backing media up xp has it to an extent but vista have made it a point of using it to stop Piracy.

Vista basic is a complete joke no aero no nothing its useless if i remember right it doesnt even have a dvd burning program it make XP home look excellent.
#36
Nice one Polly69 thats a really good post :)

I agree, stick to XP SP2 for now. It's still early days for Vista, and from my corporate knowledge it's not exactly getting blasted into workplaces.
XP SP2 works (finally) so why use anything else?!

mntada -> errr sorry yes meant "work", must have been a subliminal typo ;)
#37
hmm...I disagree about vista being that bad, and I'd certainly not call v-home 'a complete joke'. I've run v-home and v-business for a couple of months (and still use xp on my laptop) and the only problem I can report is that it seems a little slower than xp at times. However, with tweaks this can be ironed out.
But yes, if you have no other machines running vista, I'd probably still recommend xp over vista home for the time being, but with 2GB RAM I'd definitely go for vista business if it was the same price as xp. I do a lot of multitasking and usually have 3-5 programs open at once as well as 20+ webpages. Vista B makes this a hell of a lot easier! (Finally, VB is also a lot more visually appealing. I know, I know...not important, but when you are on on your desktop 10+ hours a day, why choose Slough when you can be on a Greek Island...? ). ;-)
#38
can not get the link to work have they pulled this deal ?
#39
Looks like they've pulled the new deals for some reason, this is 2 now...

:(

This is still working for me?
