Good Spec and great price
#3
Good warranty to as it's on-site.

I bought this a couple of days ago, but with 2 disc drives and the 500 GB HDD, if I waited to today I would of saved £7. But it doesn't really matter.
#5
For less than another £100 I upped the spec to include an E8200 processor, 16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives and a Belkin 802.11g Cable/DSL Wireless Router (which I really need cos mine just packed up!) taking it up to £363.66 delivered.

I know I would need to add a decent graphics card for some of the higher end games but what do you guys think of this spec for a decent all rounder?
#6
dont forget 5% quidco
#7
Mike you have outdone yourself again, someone was asking for a full PC 2 days ago to me: £358.73 delivered with 19" widescreen monitor. Just awesome.

if your thinking about using it for games why not try this : http://hotukdeals.com/item/182693/xfx-8600gt-xxx-edition-256mb-ddr3-z/

that should run most games pretty well, but if your going for the higher end games why not try a 9600?

Oh btw if using it for games i would recommend XP as in my opinion 2gig with vista just isnt enough.

hope this helps :)

Whats the difference between this deal and this one;

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/165775/dell-vostro-200-desktop-system-19-t/
Dell Vostro 200 desktop system 19"TFT, 2.2Ghz C2D, 3gig, 500Gb, dvdrw, Vista Premium £324 delivered - HotUKDeals Forum

Apart from the obvious lack of monitor...

Whats better value for money?

Thanks.
#11
^ that that one doesn't work, but it will be better for money if you do want the 19" monitor. And this one comes with EX110 keyboard.

And this one comes with EX110 keyboard.
The EX110 set is not very good at all IMO. The keyboard is just about OK - a bit flimsy, but quite nice to type with - but the mouse is rubbish. The batteries barely last 2 weeks and after a few days the left mouse button started to squeak. I've seen other people mentioning the squeak on various forums too, so it's not just me. Selecting it only adds £1.30 to the price for some reason, but you might be better off selling it on eBay and getting something a bit better.

Does this have a PCI-E x16 slot for adding a graphics card

Yes, it does - if a Dell system has dedicated PCI-E graphics listed as an upgrade option, it will have the necessary slot. Also see here.

What graphics card were you thinking of installing? If it's anything more than a 8600GT / 2600XT (or equivalent), you may also have to upgrade the PSU. Also note that a graphics card that needs a 6-pin PCI-E power connector will need convertors/cables to be able to use the supplied PSU - probably too much hassle!

P.S. If you go for a 'slim' tower Vostro model, you'll need to go for a low profile or half-height graphics card.

If you want the slim version it's £277

I'm thinking of the Novatech GeForce8600GT which needs a 6-pin fitting so what kind of adaptor am I looking for (6-pin to ????):?

AFAIK, a 8600GT does not require an additional power connector. Verify this with Novatech - their particular model may need one?

I'd go for DDR3 card if possible too - one to consider is the eBuyer XFX 256Mb with a very good heatsink/fan posted yesterday for £50.

If you still want to get a higher RAM card, also consider the Play 8600GT 1GB for ~£51 after the 5% voucher & Quidco. I think the Novatech 8600GT 512Mb will be about the same delivered.

Actually for cables/adaptors to work, for a start the Dell will need TWO free SATA power cables (I believe Dells do not use molex connectors any more). Even then things can get a bit messy & complicated - you'll probably need TWO SATA power to molex (male?) adaptors like this & ONE 2xmolex (female?) to 1xPCI-E cable like eBay item 290229417124. Of course, the molex connectors on either have to be male or female so they slot into each other. Too much hassle IMO

any vouchers to go with this?

None at the moment that I know of - Vostro vouchers are hard to come by especially on the Business site.

A small consolation - if your order is £299 or over you'll get free delivery (that's £60 off). And don't forget Quidco to knock more off.

Looks great. My only concern is that its Dell with all their usual leanings towards proprietary snags on spare parts and upgrades...

Yes it does. I bought this model last September and managed to add a GeForce 8600GT. However, I don't think the power supply can afford a GeForce 8800GT

Anyone can buy from Dell small business, just be sure to put your own name when asked for a business name and "Home" for where its to be used. Some have found it a bit more difficult to cancel or return a unit for a refund through small business so really just be sure its what you want before ordering.

now with faster cpu as standard :) 2.4

Upgrading to 500gig h/d now adds about £24:-(
