great deal mike. worth the extra over last weeks for a better processor and extra 180gb hard drive space...

any links with vista home?
#2
excellent deal.
thanks again mikeT.

Going to cancel my orders of the D08V03 from last night and reorder this.

Has anyone done this before? Can it be done online or is a phone call to India necessary?

Will an 8600GT work in this without a PSU change? Dell has this as a 300w PSU, is this the same as inspiron desktops too that do take the higher specced cards or do they beef up the PSU if you select that option?

Read the E520 thread and people were saying a 8600 would work but nobody confirmed it.

Also does the x1300 have DVI? or is it just VGA? The dell site says vga only but im pretty sure i've seen it with.

I have an E520 which i bought on the deal a couple of months ago. I fitted it with a Sparkle GeForce 8600GT from ebuyer and it works like a charm

Hi all - anyone used this machine as a media centre? Would it cope with streaming video and is it quiet enough?

Thanks

To use it as a media centre (windows media centre software?) you would have to upgrade to vista ultimate. I have a inspiron, same case, different cover, and its very quiet.

You would never find such a good system in the shops like pc world.

Surely it's worth waiting a few weeks to get a decent PC that'll serve you well for years to come, rather than a cheap off-the-shelf one that'll break within a year?! Seems a great deal to me :)

mind you its just an estimate a bit psychological if it comes earlier which it always does then you say what great service

there's going to be a lot of couriers busy on the 31st August! It's now at least 10 days they've been giving out 31st August as a delivery date and for Dell that'll be an awful lot of orders .....

These Vostro deals are amazing, i need a new computer for home so mucked around with the spec and for £499 (inc vat & del) i got:

dual core 2.66mhrz cpu
2gb ram
320gb hdd
256mb ATI graphics card
22inch wide/flat monitor (gotta be over £200 at most places on its own)
DVD r/w
XP (could of had vista but thought this was more stable, at least for now)
wireless desktop

I'm guessing on the high street you'd be looking at nearly £800 for this and on the normal dell desktop page (not the one for business customers) i did some mucking around to get the same spec and would have cost me nearly £200 more than the vostro version.

Great deal MikeT, think you've helped alot of people out(inc me).

Cheers

Yes, me included. I suggest we club together to get MikeT a thank you end of year pressie. If everyone who feels he has saved them money (and remember he spends many hours searching for deals and answering people's questions, etc). Just £1 each could soon add up, and maybe even buy him a new system. It would also motivate him to keep up this good work. (For the less altrusitically minded among us, you can justify this as payment towards future savings.) If this gets some positive responses, we can set up a separate thread in forums to organise it. Thanks MikeT! [mods: if this is innappropriate or goes against rules please feel free to delete or advise]

I'm happy if your happy, I'm sure it must be against some rule or other to try and bribe a mod though:giggle:
