This was previously offered by dell at £235 and the thread here may help with some of your questions about the deal.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93584

I have expired the old deal due to price changing and the graphics card not being as stated on the dell site (512meg)

What's the best monitor option with this? I've currently got a 4:3 17" which is nice and sharp but I find it a little small.

Would like an ultrasharp but not sure it's worth the money. Do the value models or the 20" have DVI?

Would it be worth getting it without a monitor and buying one seperately?
[mod]#5
Most monitors have 3yr warranty, if you buy with the base unit and reduce the base to 1yr warranty then that will also apply to the monitor. In that respect I would suggest a seperate purchase to be the best option.
Click though and take a look at dells monitors, some are on special this week.

Thanks. Not too fussed about warranty. If something went wrong more than 1 year down the line there is always the SOGA to fall back on.

Any opinions on sharpness with the value or 20" monitors?

The only size I have 2 off is 19" and the ultrasharp is indeed much sharper, the cheaper is still very usable though. It really is down to personal opinion though.

Going to be using it mainly for web browsing/office stuff and digital photography. Is there a way of getting vista premium without doing it over the phone, thereby losing quidco?

Afraid not. I just got a machine with Vista and decided to give up the Quidco for the extra. I know it means losing another £11 or so, but it means you get a more up to date OS together with Windows Media Centre.
[mod]#10
Its not available with Premium other than phoning and badgering them, if its just the Aero that your going to miss then look on my blog for a link to a workround using Vista home.
#11
Right, think i'm going to go for the 20" with vista premium over the phone. Just to check, does the Vostro have dvi?
#12
the 8300 has DVI, the onboard is VGA

Yeah, but only one DVI and one VGA.

Dell is giving an extra £10 cashback to any Quidco member who makes a purchase of £250 or more until 30th Sept. This is on top of the 5% cashback that quidco members get from them.
So that may take a bit of the sting out of having to pay extra this week for this deal ;-)
I have to guess that its £250 before VAT and delivery so you may only get to take advantage if you order with a monitor or other extra's.

PLEASE NOTE: The bonus will be added manually to your earnings after your purchase, and may take a few weeks to appear.

Hi there,

I ordered this with the 2.66Ghz processor, (E6750)

I downloaded CPU-Z and it actually says the processors core speed is 1.95Ghz? Whats going on? :?

I also ran a test using Belarc Advisor which said the same?

Why is my processor running at this speed, I paid £94 extra for the 2.66Ghz?

Any help or advice? ;-)

Screenshot of CPU-Z:

I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get an ISO or CD image of a DELL REINSTALLATION DVD for any Vista editions?

Maybe someone would be kind enough to upload one!

Thanks

letslaughadam your link doesn't appear to work.
Are you sure this isn't an issue with the way the processor works - I think they will run at a certain speed and only ramp up when you need to.
My PC has a 6750 processor which my Nvidia control panel reports as a 2.66GHz one, yet CPU-Z reports it as 1.99GHz. I think when your machine needs more intensive work it will ramp up the processor speed. It does this to save power, because there is no need to run at full speed (and therefore higher heat generation) when it doesn't have to. It's called SpeedStep technology.
Look at this site for info: http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Intel_Core_2_Duo__Core_2_Extreme_Processors_Chipsets_And_Performance_Analysis/?page=4

Buy a Dell Vosto with Vista and you'll get the DVD........ obtaining the disk with no licence is somewhat illegal :whistling:

Hey,

I bought a Vostro! It was delivered on 14th Sep, lovely little machine.

I've hunted the box high and low no dvd with anything Vista on it is in the box. The only Dell branded disc says "DRIVERS AND UTILITIES" and a blue "POWER DVD" one.

Did you all pay extra to receive a reinstallation dvd?
I want to format the whole PC and reinstall Vista clean :?

Thanks

"I have to guess that its £250 before VAT and delivery so you may only get to take advantage if you order with a monitor or other extra's."

is that a deffo as i ugraded the chipset and it comes to £245.58 without vat and del. If so I will have to add something else either card reader or mouse lol

Rang Dell regarding missing DVD, they are checking the packaging quality control and then getting back to me!

After a grand total of 9 phone calls to dell including being cut off, being told the warranty can't be reduced and being quoted stupid prices I have finally ordered the following:

E4400 Processor
500Gb HD
Media Reader
No Monitor
2048Mb RAM
Vista Home Premium
Base Warranty

for £325.57

Not bad going. Thanks Subrata :-D
