Good find Mike T, as usual. By the way, any good deal for the Quad Q6600? Thanks. Voted hot.

Any idea how quietly these run?
I'm after a PC to stick behind the TV as a kind of media centre - although this is a better spec than my main PC!!

Meanwhile, back at the point, it needs to be quiet due to it's location.

wow great price! anyone know of a low profile (i assume this case needs a low profile card) ati 2400pro with passive cooling i could use with this?
#8
I've looked at the other base unit you posted, but I think is a better deal - a better processor, more RAM, bigger HDD, better OS etc.
I know £50 more, but I think the extras make up for it.

Reminder: If you’re unsure about whether you want XP or Vista choose Vista Business or Ultimate and you are allowed to install XP Pro now and revert to Vista in the future at no cost. You have to ask Dell for an XP Pro disc which they sent me for free.

The Celeron model for £125 is Vista Basic, this is Business.

and remmber guys i think vista business does not come with dx10 for gaming etc or no photo stuff and no windows games either, mainly as companys asked ms not to include them as they wanted there staff not to have the ability to play games etc, i might be wrong thou.

Yeah, you are wrong as it does include DX10; I don’t know about the bundled games.
The main thing Vista Business lacks for home users is the Media Centre interface which is very useful for a HTPC but IMO irrelevant for a normal desktop.
#18
thx for confirmation that it does include dx10, i think there is a hack to enable the games thou.
#19
Thanks Mike I just bought one.
Deal or no deal? Definately a DEAL!

Seen this deal and ended up getting this one below
No intentions of buying a new PC when I woke-up this morning:w00t:

Hot! And a better deal than the expired one - can be used as a goodish HTPC with £50 low profile graphics card. Shame no overclocking of that 2140, but you can put a standard mATX mobo in there which is a plus to upgrade in a year or so. (G33 is currenty the best mATX chipset anyway)

How do you get through to the Vostro MTs from the op's link? I've looked around and it only seems to direct me to the Inspirons etc which are more expensive for less.

Edit: Ok, I had to search for Vostro in their search box as it seems to be some special small/medium business range that isn't shown to the normal consumer who goes looking for a PC. Tried to build a PC to the Vostro 200MT spec above with the HD2400 but it came to £223 ex VAT instead of £204 like the above? Dunno what I added wrong unless they've adjusted the base price somewhere at their end. Also unlike the op's deal it seems to be excluding shipping as well (which costs around £51 on top excluding VAT) which isn't offered 'free' until the ex.VAT price is £299 or over. Still a nice PC though.

Here are two links explaining MS’s policy with regard to this:

Be prepared to speak with Dell Customers Services a number of times to find someone that’s aware of this. I’ve ordered free XP Pro discs for Dell’s with Vista Business twice, its official policy to provide them but only for Vista Business and Ultimate and not the Home versions.

Just wondering how much of an improvement I would see over my 2 year old Dell Dimension 5150 Pentium 4 Processor 630 with HT technology (3.00GHz, 800MHz fsb, 2MB cache)

Any opinions (before its too late!!!!)
#37
Could anyone tell me if this has a tv out connection so I could connect it to tv ?

It really depends on the software that you use and whether it can utilise both cores.

It doesn’t unless you pay extra for the PCIe graphics card which offers S-Video; see here for the full specification.

BTW, it’s cheaper to buy a VGA card from elsewhere.

Hi, whats the E-value code for this system?
