Upgraded to 4GB RAM and 512MB ATI RadeonTM HD 4350 (DVI, VGA,HDMI)... Worth £539.35 (VAT and Shipping included)?

If you are able, you may be better off buying ram and graphics elseware. £40+vat to upgrade 1 gig of ram is a lot!
A better graphics solution can I'm sure be found elseware for the same sort of money.

Looks like you get a free £75 google adwords voucher too but you have to select it, very tempted :)

The graphics card will cost between £20 - £30 from most internet sites and the ram can be left as is for a 32 bit win 7 version, as it will not use the full 4 gig.

3 Year next day onsite warranty is very good value at £59+vat

Can anyone confirm:
1. Does the monitor coming with DVI?
2. How many PCI and PCI-E on are on the motherboard? (I guess the board is a MicroATX, right?)

As a general rule stay off the Dell upgrade options. If the model you are looking at does not match the spec you need look at the next model up you will get a better deal. E.g. if you are looking for a bigger HDD upgrading it might cost you x pounds but by moving up to the next model you get extra RAM or a better processor as well as the bigger HDD. Shop smart in other words.

The Dellinatornever sleeps :-D We'll all need to build new house extensions if we keep buying these machines.

This looks to be a very nice system although 22" / 1680X1050 ain't my bag.

Will be a real rocket system with Win7 and pretty much unbeatable for the spec with the supplied OS.

Can you get it without the monitor
#12
It's coming out as £359! Am I missing something here?
#13
Hi all it's not a bad deal.

Yeah, VAT and shipping.
#15
Hi Balstars - it shows the price of £359 before adding the vat and shipping. When you "Add to basket" and scroll to the foot of that screen, it shows £412.

I am tempted....... Thanks MikeT

Think the price your looking at is without the VAT and shipping included.

If you take it right through to the final screen (prior to paying) you will get the final price, I think!
#17
Note that the machine only has two DIMM slots, so to upgrade to 4GB, you'll be discarding the 1GB DIMM.
#18
ah yes, VAT........forgot about that!

Thanks guys!

What are your first impressions on it?

very hot deal. But isnt this the same price in the dell home site .??? Ive been that distance selling regulations dont apply if you buy from the small business site..

I can understand buying from the dell small business site if it is cheaper but is it worth the bother if it is the same price on the dell home site????

I've got 5 Dell machines and I DID have to build an extension!! (Well I converted the garage into a study to hold 3 of them :) )
I've been REALLY good lately though and fought the temptation to buy another one in the latest round of deals. This one is a pretty impressive spec for the money too. Voted hot.

I'm learning all the time but just help me along my journey why would the 22" 1680/1050 not float your boat?

mumbojumbo
This is a Vostro machine, which is a range exclusive to the Business site. The equivalent range on the Home site would be the Inspirons.

my bad. Too many beers I'm afraid

Because almost everything I do on my PC is at 1920x1080 and when you drop resolution you lose space on the screen. Things don't fit = slow down in what I do.

For most people 1680x1050 is a vast improvement and an upgrade. Darn fine price so the TFT wouldn't stop me buying this as I'd sell the TFT or it's xmas soon so it would find a home.

£170 to upgrade from the default 320GB drive to a 1TB sounds a bit steep. A 1TB drive is about £50 these days, so how do they justify that?

When you add it all up I think you're better off going for the cheapest XPS430 for about £100 more. Not only do they look a lot better but they have extra RAM, a decent graphics card, a 1TB drive, a better CPU and 24/7 call centre next day free parts and labour on site support. OK, they come with Vista and no monitor but overall i'd say a better deal.

Hi,

2. How many PCI and PCI-E on are on the motherboard? (I guess the board is a MicroATX, right?)

Does anyone know the answer to this question? Just wonder if a PCI-E graphics card can be added at a later date?

Thanks.

Ah ha, perfect, thanks.

It appears it does.

Just trying to see if this is a better deal than the Inspiron 545...
#30
Perfect, thanks.

It looks like it does, just comparing with the more recent Inspiron offer...

This one looks better IMHO.
#31
Would anyone care to advise/recommend on a silent graphics card upto £50 that would suite this PC
#32
Tempted. If only it had 4 gig memory and no monitor.
#33
Are there any similar deals without the monitor (and fair discount to take into account the drop of the monitor)?

Otherwise might just go ahead with this, any discount codes? :D

Doesn't 32 bit Windows still only see up to 3GB of RAM?

£416.24 delivered to mainland UK. Not sure really, I haven't heard of that company either.

Doesn't look as if the Vostro 220 comes with a wireless adapter as standard. Still looks a good deal though and I quite fancy one if I can get it past "head office"

I have used them a couple of times before when (small) clients don't want the latest and greatest to replace their duff desktop (see other listings on the site) - pretty good deals on there at times.

Refurb comes with 90 Days RTB, but the new stuff (this one included) comes with 3 year on site.

The only downer is no Windows 7

Is the Integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator X4500 going to be powerful enough to run Aero?

Windows 7 needs a 128Mb graphics card for that.. no?
