There is an option for XP Pro for the same price but see my blog sidebar for a way of getting both Vista Business and XP Pro on this deal.
A few pounds more than the Inspiron quad deal I posted last week but this does have a 256Meg Graphics card and the option above for XP Pro.

Thanks for the post Mike, this looks just what I want. (well, core 2 duo is enough but quad core is a bonus!)
Probably me being dim, but I am not clear about what you mean by getting Vista and Windows XP in the blog. I want to get a computer with XP on because my printer does not have the option of Vista drivers, but it would be nice to have Vista as well, to save the cost of the upgrade in due course.
I read the Microsoft entry as it being that if you buy a computer with Vista on, it is possible to downgrade vista to XP, but only if you have a new version of XP on disk as well.
I have XP, but it is on a laptop I will continue to use.Can you clarify it please, so I can order the deal?
Thanks,
John

Well if you order from Dell with Vista Business, then once it arrives complain to them that its not compatable with your printer and ask for the downgrade to XP Pro. Get them to send you an XP Pro disc and go from there. Might save you some time if you also ask for the XP driver disc too though under the downgrade rights I'm not sure they have to give you that too as the drivers are all available on the Dell website.

Why is it cold ? Price looks good to me!
#5
why the cold votes - these people should be banned for not posting a reason (far to much of this going on lately)

Voted HOT! Damn you Mike - I bit the bullet yesturday and ordered the Inspirion deal you posted. This would have been worth the extra £13 for the better graphics card and black case. ah well....these things always happen once you buy. But thanks due for your deal hunting skills

Do you know if I can do the Vista/XP thing with the Inspirion?

If i wanted to cancel do I just phone up then order this?
#6
Can't understand the cold either,
I ordered some laptops for work this week fro Dell and asked for a quote for a similar spec mackine for me, they quoted

OptiPlex 755 SF Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.20Ghz/800MHz/2MB) 1
Money-Off for OptiPlex -£30 1
MS WXP logo label (32 Bit) 1
OptiPlex 755 Vista/XP Resource DVD 1
2.0GB 667MHz NON-ECC DDRII Memory(2*1GB) 1
19 in 1 Media Card Reader 1
160GB (7,200rpm) SATA Hard Drive 1
8X DVD+/- RW (Vista & XP) 1
Display : 19in 1908WFP UK/Irish Black Widescreen UltraSharp (1440 x 900) TCO99 DVI-D
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro - 256MB single DVI Low Profile 1
AS501 Black Flat Panel Speaker 1
English - Genuine Windows XP Pro SP2(No Media) 1
English - Genuine Windows XP Professional SP2 Media 1
3Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day 1

Freight 0.00
VAT £ 114.28
Total 767.28

Told them I didn't want a 3 yr warranty but he said it was 'free'
So all I was getting extra to Mike's system was a 19 inch monitor (£168) and the sound bar, BUT Mike's suggestion includes a better graphcs card and a quad core (and faster) processor - and 340gb bigger hard drive and a faster DVD drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Mike's deal works out over £140 cheaper.
Thanks again Mike,
John

dabluone, you can of course cancel your Inspiron order at any time, even up to 7 days after receiving it. If the Inspiron has Premium then there are no downgrade rights, it only applies to Vista Business and ultimate.
Both the Inspiron and this Vostro are via the Home site BTW.
[mod]#8
elditig, if you need a monitor dont buy with the Vostro 400 but order this one seperately
Dell SE198WFP 19-inch Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Artic Silver, TCO'99)
Its on offer @ £139.83 with 3yrs warranty whereas if you added one to the Vostro deal it would only have 1yr warranty and cost more.

Hi MikeT, used the link you posted then went through to the final review stage making sure only things that were checked were the 'no additional price items' but the final price is saying £633.40? How did you get the price of £421.83?

Im unsure if i should get this or not, is the Graphics card too weak to play COD4? Some people say yes, others not, like on this thread.

And the graphics card has onboard hd processing for hd-dvd and bluray.

The CPU is better with the Dell - but the graphics card is slightly better with the Aldi PC.
Buy the Dell ;-)

Does anyone know how loud these are?

Can somebody tell me whether I need to add a modem to this order? I already have an external modem/router supplied as part of my Sky package and was expecting to be able to attach the computer using a cable. The modems listed will add about £25 to the price.
#37
This pc can play call of duty 4 with ease but not at the highest graphics obviously, i have a x1300 and mine plays it fine with decent graphics

Your modem router should connect to the LAN port on the PC so no extra modem needed.

Does anyone know if the motherboard would take a E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core please?

Many thanks

New User, please be patient!
I also am torn between this and the ALDI deal, one of my concerns is that Vista business does not include any media centre ( I dont' think). Please excuse my ignorance, but does that mean I would not be able , for example, to view DVD's or listen to music?. Any guidance appreciated.
