can you say if this is any good?
#2
the link not working for me!
#3
The link works fine for me. Anyway, I already updated the link. You may try it.
#4
its working ok now.
#5
btw, do you guys think this system is worth to buy?
#6
I can't get the link to work either but I went via the dell site and checked it out. Very hot! Shame I bought one the other week which wasn't quite as good as this. Only £25+vat to upgrade the screen too.
#7
I have no idea why the link is not working. I have updated the link again and hopefully it will be fine this time. If it is not working again please go to dell website and have a look. The price for this system before vat + delivery is £529.

This will be around £700 to build oneself with individual components from eBuyer/Scan for example, so quite good value I reckon. Just need one of those 10% discount codes to make it perfect!

Not bad at all - a complete working gaming system (unit, monitor, mouse & keyboard) at a good spec with 1 year guarentee on the parts. I'd buy it if I didn't need a notebook and didn't have a gaming desktop already that I built late 2006 (I'm upgrading next year).
#11
Regarding the screen upgrade to ultrasharp model mentioned by normal. Does anyone has experiences using the ultrasharp monitor? How does it performs compare to the normal flat screen monitor?
#12
is this a good deal or should i wait ?
#13
You can always wait for a better deal, but this is hot in my book. I'm suprised more people haven't jumped on this. If you're a gamer, then go for it. If not, there are some slightly cheaper dell deals around. Like I said, I bought a deal which I thought was particularly good a couple of weeks ago, but this beats its by a bit. ie, this comes with a better graphics card and a monitor for only £100 more.

Definitely, the only downer is that its not an XPS case. But its a fantastic spec a a good price, prolly worth the extra £30 for the ultrasharp upgrade which gives you a better viewing angle and improved contrast ratio. Voted Hot!

I think i will wait another month, if i could get the XPS case for this price i would have jumped on it.
#15
Damn good price, hot!
#16
It seems good, but is it better than my 1 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird, overclocked to a crazy 1.1Ghz? lol.
No seriously is it worth it. My machine is on the way out, after about 7 years of faithfull service.
#17
I built my pc around this spec and it flies along. Worth noting however that the cpu is 2.4ghz and not 3ghz as the title suggest. If the CPU is a G0 stepper 3ghz is easy to achieve on air and I have 3.6 easily with a water cooled system. This is a very god spec machine for both games and processor intensive operations like video rendering. Voted hot.

IF the CPU is a G0 stepper (anyone know if it is or how to find out?) then the overclock would also depend on the motherboard and its ability to be overclocked. How can you find out what the MB is? I suspect dell has it's own versions of standard motherboards. I am very tempted by this but would want to overclock (invalidateing the warranty).

Dells suck! I would like to see a dell overclocked

Ive got one here

can you remove the monitor, mouse and keyboard? i dont need these and would prob buy this system then, (except for ****** vista)
#27
I don't think so.I have called the slaes rep and they said it is not possible to remove these items from the package. Maybe the sales rep that I talk to did not want to negotiate and also did not want to bargain with me . One more thing is I forgot to mentioned is you still can get 5% off using Quidco.

I get £744.95 for your spec??
#29
This is the maddest PC deal, If you've been waiting to get yourself a good PC this is it. That PC without the monitor a month or so ago was £580 and that was an excellent deal. This monitor is worth at least £150 so that makes the PC less than £500. RED HOT.
#30
That is breath taking, really is. What a deal. HOT.
#31
This is a great deal. I got an XPS420 with 1gb less ram (tho a 1TB hard disk) than this plus a 22" monitor a couple of fmonths back for £800 which was a good deal then. This is even better!!

I get the £634 price like A[L]C does.

To the others who think that this is a good deal - as I said before, this & a 10% voucher would make it perfect!
#33
I wouldnt touch a dell with a bargepole.

I bought alaptop from dell 3 years ago, costing over £1k. WIthin 6 month it needed a replacement harddrive and dvd drive. Then the whole thing stopped working and Dell claimed it was accidental damage, quoting £500 to replace the motherboard.

If you enjoy talking to Jimy in Bangalore about your PC problems every week buy a Dell!
#34
Got to admit the call centres stretch credulity to the full. But this old Dell inspirion 1300 goes on & on.Dell can be a good purchase.

Just bear in mind that £634 is NOT including vat tax.

Yes, you're right - my mistake!

If you are buying this be sure to opt in for the ultrasharp upgrade. The Dell ultrasharp monitors are probably one of the best LCD monitors you can get.
#39
well i bought a dell vostro 400 the other week and i have to say i was not impressed with it, Ordered some additional ram to fit and install myself and was wanting to upgrade the fsb etc however alot of the motherboard settings are locked and after researching found that in order to unlock them you had to soldier two pins together. Was not impressed at being sold a machine i could not set up how i want to called them up and spoke to 5 different advisors some of which were technical that could not string a sentance together.

I have no problem with call centre work being farmed out but only if they are able to offer the same service i would expect calling a local centre. After several hours on the phone to them it was then agreed that they would come and collect the machine.

I have sine built a similar spec one, slightly better with branded components, and in all honesty did not cost me much more. I think dells are suitable for a user who does not know much about computers and does not exect much, but as for potential to upgrade you may aswell jump because its a waste of time and there technical service are as much use a chocolate tea pot.

Thanks for the tip . I suppose it's worth it for only £25 or more extra.
