Thats amazing, i got the same system but with an E8400 Processor and only 3GBs of ram the other day for £10 more!
This is a deal and a half!

Seems like not everyone agrees as its getting colder, personally I think this is one of the best spec PCs I have seen for this money.

This is hot for me. I'm very tempted. But hey, if anyone can point to a similar spec for less money I'd love to know.

Wouldn't worry about this system having more memory than you as it will only address 3GB anyway. Why do they do that!

It would depend how similar you want the spec. Do you know what power supply this has? Does anyone? It's an important component if you want to expand yet from what I've read on forums it seems to be quite difficult to determine with Dell as they rate them differently.

It does seem a good deal though

My XPS420 that i got has a 375Watt PSU and i guess this wont be that differant.

Yeah i dont really care about that :) Thanks though.
Its just the processor im annoyed about :(

It is a very good spec at a good price, but the one biggest problem with Dell PC's is the problems with Overclocking. Unless they've changed their tune, they have a custom bios in which any and every option to tune anything has been removed.

So if that still is the case, then I'd rather get one with a Q6600 & overlock it to 3.2ghz.

The 8800gt graphics card that comes with it will allow you to play games perfectly on the medium settings. It should also cope with high relatively well, but if you go to the top level, it will really struggle!

Still a good deal though for anyone that's not too picky about this sort of stuff, but afraid that's what's put me off from ordering!

375Watt PSU proves my point as I believe it is below that recommended for the graphics card BUTt i believe Dell rate their PSU on sustainable load rather than peak (like everybody else) so how do you ever compare or know what else you can add. This is from memory so may be rubbish.

can you ask for 64bit os install instead?
#10
p.s i think this is a nice deal, bravo o.p.
#11
I think people might be comparing it to the much nicer looking XPS that was posted a month ago

Dell rarely seem to offer 64bit for their desktops, but suspect a phone order might allow you to add this option.

As for the comments about PSU, Dell offer 3 years next day on all systems, an under specified PSU would result in their call centres being kept quite busy as it is a quick route to a dead system.

XP 32 bit can typically address 3.25 to 3.5GB of RAM. My system can address 3.5GB and I’d rather have 2x2GB than 2x1GB + 2x512MB.

Oops yes same deal sorry for duplication.

Strange though as yesterday this was showing only 3Gb and slightly more expensive?
#16
Hot, would have bought this instead of the Vostro 400 with E8200 that was last weeks hot deal. Still that had a 2x500GB HD and for almost exactly the same total cost as this mine now has a 8800GTS :-)
#17
I'm frankly amazed that the heat on this is not a lot higher.

Quad-core, 4GB @ 800MHz, 500GB, 512MB 8800GT, DVDRW and Vista Premium.

With Quidco this comes in at £458 - billy bargain methinks.

Voted Hot & Repped.

Cheers.

You've totally missed the point!

I'm sure it will work today but how can you tell whether it will cope with additional or changed hardware. Dell deliberately make their systems difficult to compare to the rest of the market so you never really know how good their deals are.
#19
I'm glad heat is rising on this. I don't intend to modify, and i only play a few games (enough to want reasonable graphics). I can't find a similar system close to this price.
#20
starange how the new quad cores have not found their way to the XPS systems..

hot deal by the way..
#21
When I try to get the ex110 cordless keyboard on this system I get an incompatibility error on the mouse that i can't get rid of. Does anyone else get this?
#22
hmmm

gonna see some more comments on the thread before i make a decision... its a bit more than id like to pay, but its a very good price.

whats better about this than the vostro 400 for 287 the other week?
#23
If I'm thinking of the same deal this one has much better processor, memory and graphics

£474
Quad Core
4GB, 800Mhz
512MB 8800GT

£287
Dual Core
3GB, 667Mhz
On-board Intel Graphics X3100

The £287 Vostro came with 1TB of HDD storage but let's be honest the 500GB in this beast is still pretty hefty

If I didn't already have an XPS720 I'd seriously consider getting this as a very competent gaming rig.
#25
Hm,

Could I drop 1GB of ram and maybe get some extra harddrive space?

I need a second computer, I have filled 1tb on this computer, and I'll be giving this to my dad when I'm done...
#26
Well I just went to order this it never asked for a Home address but a business address. So I put my home address in and I wanted to pay it monthly but can't as its a business address. Am gutted is there anyway to buy this but pay monthly instead off all in one go.
#27
voted hot....great deal...
#28
jjlobban, check the outlet deals. Plenty there with less ram, but bigger hard drives at about the same price or slightly cheaper.
