The base price of £357 is without the monitor.
#11
7% Discount on Dells for employees of WH Smith... Don't ask why, just remember seeing it in the staff room a while back.
#12
Actually seems a better deal with the monitor than without.
Think I'll wait til the outlet have a few quads available :w00t:
#13
Nice deal. Voted hot.
#14
You now have to remove the monitor as stated in original post, but you will also need to upgrade to the Enhanced USB Multimedia Keyboard to get free delivery at checkout !

Looking at this for a HTPC (not too worried about noise, it's a loud room!). Does anyone know if there is an optical digital sound output (unfortunately my amp does not have HDMI)

Is actually pretty darn quiet.........I have one running 24/7 in my bedroom.
More annoying thing is the blue LED.

That's cool. Any idea as to whether your PC has the SPDIF out? Thanks

I bought a 410 Vostro last week for £480 (A bit better spec to this) and would definately recommend them.

Delivered in 3 days. Great aftercare, they rang me to check I received it and were very competent when I asked them a few questions. It is dead quite too!

BUY IT!

Where do you manage to find these deals as your deals always seem to include taking the monitor off the price, where as if you go straight tot the Dell site, you have to pay extra for the monitor?

Not complaining, just wondered where you found them

Thats the one I bought. The price has gone up slightly since I bought it but still a very good price.
I have 3 hard drives (still space for 2 more) they make more noise than the system does! - Don't be put off by the 350W PSU as from what I have read Dell seem to rate their PSU's differently to the mainstream.

Cant say a bad thing about it, thats quite an achievement as I am quite hard to please!

Just a note, Window's won't recognize or use, more than 3GB of ram unless using the 64Bit OS.

well did order the inspiron 530 posted a week or so back for around the same price.. that does not have S/PDIF only 7-8 channel sound. ANd as this is a business machine, i doubt it'll have S/PDIF either.. altho thats just my take on it..

Edit: for a HTPC u can build a superb one that can handle 1080p for under £280 =) PM me if u want help regarding that.

Vista running SP1 recognises 4GB.......I think the jury is still out as to whether it can actually use it all though :?

Hot deal.
Mike - are there any good Dell laptop deals on the horizon? I'm looking at 2GB ram below £400.

Sorry, what does this mean to a lay man?

I got the Vostro 400 when it was on offer at similar price, and this machine is frickin' bad ass! I think its worth paying for upgraded processer and then getting a graphics card of the net!

My vostro 410 came with 4GB of ram with Vista SP1 - Uses every last KB of it!

On 32-bit OS's, prior to SP1 being released for Vista, anything above 3GB of ram was reported by the OS as 3GB..........meaning the extra 1GB was redundant seeing as the OS couldn't see it and, by definition, couldn't use it.

SP1 for Vista now corrects at least part of that; it correctly reports that 4GB of ram is installed but whether the OS actually is capable of using the full capacity is debatable.

The potential problem with that is the PSU rating; if it comes with the factory-fit 512mb 8800 then Dell fit a more beefy PSU........if it comes with the ATI 128mb jobbie and you after-fit an 8800 you might have issues. Particularly if you've added hard drives etc.

LOL, purchased the same system on Monday with an internal Wireless PCI (extra £10) for £515 however due to high levels of fraud my bank wouldnt release the funds so i had to re-order today. When i built it again today it came to £510 with the exact same components PLUS the EX100 Keyboard and Mouse...weird!

hi i'm thinking of getting this pc but can anyone advice me whether
i can turn it into a decent gaming pc by upgrading it with a graphics card
#36
Some of the hot/cold votes are very erratic here.

This one's voted hotter than one doing the rounds about three weeks ago and yet that one was superior in almost every respect (faster processor, more memory, bigger hard drive, top-notch graphics card).

Funny old world innit? :?

does any one know what is the spec of the mother boards it has?

Does this price include the monitor?

Hi, can somebody help me with the following questions re: this PC.

On the configuration page, it says you can have XP with the option to instal Vista at a later date - so do they just give you a Vista disk which you can use at a later date?

I am assuming that the graphics card can handle 2 monitors (as the config page gives you the option of adding an extra monitor). Can this PC take an extra graphics card, giving me the option to have up to four monitors? if so, what slots are available for the extra card?

Thanks for any help.
