If you can afford another £30 then this is a much better bang for buck deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/235275/dell-vostro-410-desktop-base-uint-q

Just out of intrest, what was the unobtainable Tesco Quad deal?

Have searched but cant find it - was it THIS PC but cheaper?
#5
It was that computer with a voucher which knocked off £13. Some people have got that computer recently for £299 with a 19" monitor thrown in free by mistake.

Was the free monitor instore or online?

does anyone know the power consumption of this machine?

I want one but will be running as a server with almost no CPU usage, so any knowledge of power consumption close to idle will be ideal.

Price is now £292 delivered but add value to the deal by upgrading components and free delivery kicks in at £299 before vat giving you reduced priced extra's.

I just added the MX3200 key/mouse and upgraded the graphics card and added a card reader for £336 delivered for example.

this is all the manual states

DC power supply Wattage 350 W
Maximum heat dissipation (MHD) 188 W (350-W power supply)
NOTE: Heat dissipation is calculated by using the power-supply wattage rating.
Voltage : 115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 8/4 A

i thought this deal was much better (specs wise).

Honestly 1 GB is rubbish for Vista (and for XP).

Whats the point in buying a Q6600 and then using it with virtually 0 RAM?

With Dell charging £72+VAT for 2gig I would much prefer they offered the deal with 1 gig than force you to have 2 at their prices.
Nothing to stop you fitting your own much cheaper ram from elseware.

your second point is reasonable but your first needs a little more thought given the system requirements of Vista Basic and XP.
#15
this should come with Vista Home Premium and 2GB at least for the price.

In that case you'll need this link http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?reconfigure=true&vw=list&cart=ActiveCart&id=cd757c69-b4cb-4433-a168-030ad6af5055&ecomm=ecomm.euro.dell.com&c=uk&l=en&cs=ukbsdt1

Add the MX3200 for £322 del
Also includes the 2GB ram, Vista Premium, 250HD and DVDRW

Lot more for £30 extra

Twinkle is trying to point to this deal I think.

Vista Basic? On a system with a Quad Core?

I know XP runs fine on a 1GB system, I used to use it with that... on my single core AMD Athlon...

Even when I had 2GB and wanted to really maximise my Quad I realised I needed 4GB of RAM...

Not sure what point you are trying to make. The unit comes with Vista Basic and it's minimum requirements fall within the spec.

Whether or not coupling vista basic, 1gb of ram and a quad core together is sensible might be a different point from the one you made earlier
