Wow!
Very nice price!
I got my Refurb Dell XPS 420 for £484 with identical specs but i took the E8400 instead of the Quad core because from what i've heard they are better for gaming, so anyway this is an awesome price!

Memory seems to be 667Mhz not 800Mhz as quoted? Can't even see it as an option.

Am I missing something?

Your not wrong...

Why isn't this more popular? I thought this was a good price for the spec - a cheap gaming PC. I'm thinking of ordering (I need a new system, but can't decide if I really need this spec), but I'm surprised this deal doesn't have more interest here. Am I missing something?

yes something badly wrong here,i know this new chip is generally slower than say the E8500 but long term wise has to be a good bet? hope the power supply in these models is up to the job though

this is a super hot deal, whats wrong with people? my credit card was refused again with dell (always is last 3 orders) so i had to ring abbey and sort it, ordered this yesterday but got an email from dell saying they had cancelled my order- so they have done me a favour as can take advantage of the extra ram and price drop although thought i read something about only 3gb ram being recognised in 32 bit os, may have misread that article.was going to pay the £47 fee for win xp now and possible upgrade ( or downgrade depending on your view) to vista business later but not sure if worth it, might try phoning dell to negotiate that bit.

Now £427 delivered which i think is a great price :)

Till 4PM
[mod]#10
Strange the way this one is being ignored somewhat, maybe when the penny drops tomorrows 2-4pm voucher time will take a hit.

Voucher not working for me...
#17
Very nice, Still comes up at £474 Delivered without the Voucher. A good deal if you ask me, would jump on this but I don't really need a new system.

Anyone interested in a dated but mid-range PC.

Hehe.

I'd spotted this one a while back but didn't post it because I wasn't too sure how much of a bargain it was without a monitor.
£474 was tempting, I think if I'd had access to a pc during the 10% voucher "happy hour" I'd have gone for this at £427.
Hey ho, another Dell bargain usually isn't far away.......
#19
Needed a monitor in the deal for me.
#20
Was a fantastic saving - sadly now roughly £485. So what's the deal with vouchers wokring between 4 and 6pm then?
#21
I've been looking for a PC for weeks, would of bought this if I'd of seen it!

2pm and 4pm (GMT so presumably 3pm and 5pm BST?)...........most people were working so would have been unable to take advantage.

A peculiar strategy.
#23
Dopey Dell as usual. Thought happy hour was supposed to be after work not during it? Was sorely tempted for a second there and I usually warn people off Dell.
#24
Ordered one of these yesterday. Awesome price/spec. Not sure why it didn't get hotter. But this thread didn't show up for me til today (i.e I didn't notice this thread yesterday when I looked and I was looking at all the dell business threads/deals posted on here)...may explain why it's not been noticed so much!?

seeing as this is a Dell business deal - the people they are targeting with this happy hour deal are the people that ARE in work!!!

how did you manage to get one of these for this price yesterday ,this deal is two weeks old!:?
#27
Using last weeks voucher http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/197979/10-off-all-vostro-desktops-and-note/ (valid 12th & 13th June)
(mine came to £427 when I ordered it on Friday 13th)
#28
good deal, but can build this with bigger HDD, better case, and lower latency RAM, for about £400. (if you know how that is!)

Care to elaborate?

I'm almost going to buy this but I have a few concerns - particularly regarding the so-called
'green' aspects: if it runs using less power does that mean it has a meagre PSU and if so if
I add more internal devices/hard drives will the PSU cope ok over an extended period? Also,
I'd like to know what the expansion options are, how many ports it has internally and how
big the case is. Dell don't seem to give much info in regard to specifications.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Some of the answers you are after are here: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/vostrodt_410?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd&~ck=anavml

Chassis Type - Tower
Dimensions and weight:
Height: 16.4" (415mm)
Width: 7.3" (185mm)
Depth: 16.9" (430mm)
Weight: 24.4lbs

Ports, Bays, Slots:
(1) PCIe x16, (2) PCIe x1, (3)PCI
(4) Hard Disk Drive: (3) 5.25", (1) 3.5"
(8) USB 2.0 (4 front, 4 back)
(optional) IEEE 1394 Adapter

And more detailed info (i.e. the manual) is available here: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos410/en/sqrg/pdf/X462CA00MR.pdf

Which states that this set-up has a 350 Watt power supply, which will be more than adequate for most set-ups.

Hope that helps

Thanks mate
#32
I take it the further discount down to £427 doesn't work between 2 and 4 anymore?
#33
Yikes, Don't you need more juice to support a Quad Core & 8800GT. Would've thought 350W wasn't enough power ?

I must say I'm really concerned about this - not so much for powering the computer
as shipped but after adding my devices - four hard drives and 3 PCI slots which I
intend to use - not to mention 15 or so USB devices (four external HDs and all the
other **** I bought because of hotukdeals twisting my arm :P)

My four year old Aldi Medion 8083 P4 3.2Ghz has a 380W PSU in it as shipped...
They clearly felt that it required this (and the whole reason I'm looking at this
new computer is because I think I've blown the USB hardware - too many
devices perhaps!) and the Medion is not as powerful or as expandable as the
Vostro 410.

I wonder if Dell would upgrade the PSU as a configuration option if I call them.

Dell rate their PSU's very conservatively, I'm sure it's more than man enough.
