This is a very hot spec for under £500, upgrade the graphics card and soundcard and you have a gaming machine.

But sadly as it's a Dell no Overclocking the 3.0Ghz to crazy heights.
#3
Nice spec, good price - HOT!
#4
Great spec, but I already have a 20" screen. Any good deals with no screen?

See some of MikeT's other deals - he posted a couple that are base unit only :)

The latest release info for Windows 7 is October 15, 2009 - should have less system requirements than Vista so will run fine on any new machine (just as Vista does) and on quite a lot of older hardware too. I don't think there is information on pricing - but you should be able to upgrade over a Vista install.

Nice deal! Better order quick as Free Delivery service expires today!!

A few questions if anyone doesn't mind answering!

1/ If I were to uninstall Dell Vista could I install Windows XP on this?

Or

2/ Could I put my old HDD with XP in this machine and use it as the main HDD.

Basically I still want to use XP but with this upgraded machine!

Probably not no.

XP ceases to function if it detects major changes in hardware, to stop people cloning hard drives as a means to pirate XP.

If this happens all you need to is call microsoft and they will give you a new product key. Done this a few times, no problems, just call the free 0800 number when you try to activate it.

Microsoft aren't in a habit of giving out 'new' keys. What they will do is give out activation codes. That's either automatically or if there's a problem verbally on their 0800. They don't need or ask for any personal info. Be aware the problem will arise again if you reinstall in the same manner. It's best to do a completely fresh install on a formatted drive if possible as this removes some potential problems (Windows keeps a log of your setup).

They are very good at helping but I should think so anyway.

This is a really nice deal for a well built unit. I like Windows 7 too much to buy this unit so will wait a few months. If you're in the market for a good machine then this is certainly an option.

This one is Windows Business, so if you need Windows Media Centre go for one with Premium instead.

Nope, many years of support left. Service Pack 2 has just come out to favourable reviews.

Now, in the not too distant future new Dells, as with other major suppliers, will come with upgrade vouchers for Windows 7. Up to you if you decide to go for this very good deal or wait, but if you need a new PC now you won't regret buying this I'm sure.

It would be better to go with the ebuyer pc for 229, download xp pro from a torrent site, burn it onto a dvd, and install it on the new pc, buy the graphics card from ebuyer too, and buy the lg hdtv/monitor (it has every connection at the back you can think of) its 174.99 (plus quidco) at cdiscount, 22 inch..........better deal:thumbsup:

Coz that's what I did.

Sorry, yes you are correct, I meant activation code, not key!

Will upgrading to Windows 7 be a problem. I dont think there will be much trouble upgrading hardware drivers but what about the motherboard drivers, chipset, etc... Who knows what motherboard it is as its not branded.
#23
Absolutely no problem upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista or XP. Why? Well, it's really just Vista with [almost (99%)] all the annoying bits removed with some added greatness from XP. I've never heard one valid complaint about W7 from any user in all the months of using it. Vista? 100s of complaints most still of which are valid and always will be because it's dead in the water unless they import all the good bits from Windows 7 on Vista SP3. If you have Vista make sure you get SP2 as it'll help www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a4dd31d5-f907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&DisplayLang=en

Windows 7 works and it works well. It's free to try too until March 2010 for those that want to give it a spin http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/release/windows7/e/b/5/eb58e76e-17fa-409b-855f-11fbe84d1c93/7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_en_dvd.iso (if you copy/paste that entire URL it'll start downloading without registration). Free and legal keys all over Google. Give it a go! Even on that machine from eBuyer.

Thanks for putting my mind to rest, so as long as you have vista drivers it will be ok on windows 7 in the same way XP and Win 2000 drivers/ software are compatible?

Well, I've not had any Vista > Windows 7 problems and I've installed it lots of times. There may be some problems with some drivers but that'll be known about the now as 100,000s of people are already using and testing Windows 7. And -as I said- all my development and security applications think Windows 7 is Vista. And it is but with all the bits they never had time to put in and of course all the things fixed that they should never of broke.

The biggest benefit to Windows 7 is you can completely turn off the "Are you sure you are not an idiot?" messages which made me give up on Vista within days. It could be supressed but I like to be in control as an adult.

For those wanting to give Windows 7 a spin you can have it and Vista on your machine at the same time via dual boot. Works perfectly and just Google it for a simple guide or shove Windows 7 on a spare machine for 11 months of 'free' use.

Odd. Cheapest I can get this is 459.00 EXCL VAT and I know the Dell site pretty well - warranty is at the default 1 year CAR (collect and return) - all others are a price increase. (Actually, it's 458.99 when i take off 1p for the Norton rubbish, but still...).

There's only one memory option - 4gb [2x2048] - selected.
20" monitor selected, and as MikeT says, no price increase for that

Err, nope - 459 plus vat = £527 is the cheapest I can get it....

What am I missing then?
