Very similar spec (if you add 4gb ram and 1GB GT220 Nvidia card) to a Studio XPS system that is valued at over £700! Comes out at £585 inc VAT and del :-p

There was, ages ago, was around Xmas or in January. Graphics card was different (ATI Radeon 512Mb, less RAM probably 2Gb and a think back then had a smaller harddisk)

Got an i7-860 and 4Gb of ram for around £460 from the refurb site 2 months ago. This is not bad I guess, seen similar deals though.

hottish. If you don't need better graphics or more storage this seems a very reasonable buy. But if upgrades are requred I dare say you'd be better off building from scratch.

I think i'll price up individual parts and see if its worth upgrading my Athlon XP 4200! (although I don't use the power much on it now anyway...)
#11
Looks like 5% quidco cashback available as well, superb system for the money.Really want one but really can't afford it at the moment :(

I'll hang on for a Medion Intel i7 with 3 year backup, as I'm in no rush. My pentium dual core 2.8 is fine at the mo'
Good deal though. Well spotted.
I'd give you rep if I knew how to do it with the new setup !

I'd like one of those too but all the medions seem to be AMD now and spec does not seem to be that great.

I'd really love a vostro laptop rather than a desktop.

You can get a Fastrack 3500 one for £633 +quidco, with a i5-520m processor and 3 years on site warranty. Only downer is it's 32 bit only :| If you want 64-bit, you have to go for the custom option, which is considerably more expensive.

I prefer building my own PC's but these Dell Vostro's are brilliant value.

Where/how did you arrive at 585? Were you using coupon codes?

I got the 430 around xmas with pretty much identical specs except with 4gb ram and the ati 4350 (almost as good as the g310 here) for around £430 delivered (thank you HUKD :D ) but I have to warn you, since then i have put a 650watt corsair, an ati 5770 and a 1tb HDD in so its kind of negated the great saving to an extent lol.If your happy with the spec thats here, its a great deal. Although when you have such a high end processor, its kind of hard to settle.

If its the same as the last 430 deal, its broadcom netlink gigabit ethernet :)

i want this as it beats my current q6600 quad and the i-7 on benchmark is much quicker than the core 2 quad but will need to sell the quad for at least £300 to make it worth while.

Cold. This is a typical unbalanced Dell offer: great CPU, crappy system.

How can you get an i860 and then use single channel memory? That seriously reduced the performance for any application that needs a good CPU in the first place. Also there is no indication whether you have 2 free memory slots or not - and at some point you will want to upgrade to 8 GB.

4 Memory slots on the Vostro 430.

And you can choose if you want 4x1024mg or 2x2048 etc. when you customise the system.

I'm sure I read an article a few months back that the performance of dual channel motherboards isn't much greater than single channel ones. Obviously there will be some increased performance, but nothing noticable.

Its ideal for what it is and a good deal imo.

4 Memory slots on the Vostro 430.

WHICH IS WHY YOU CAN INITIALLY BUY THE SYSTEM WITH 16GB MEMORY DDR3

I think this is a nice spekked PC and I like Dell - never had any problems with them and have given them some serious stick, but I don't feel the price is a 'hot/great deal', when compared to other similar Dell deals posted on here in the past.

Just my 2d's worth.
