Overpriced for the spec.
"Oh hell, it's a Dell"
No 7-days returns for business orders. Distance selling regulations do not apply, even if you are a personal "consumer"
Expensive 0870 support number. You cannot even cancel before shipment and you cannot see what you actually buy.

Why is support on a freefone number in USA and premium rate in the UK?
Don't UK users deserve the same cost for support calls?

If they are selling to a consumer then distance selling regs MUST APPLY its the law and its something they can not opt out of!

It's £433 per laptop. This is a similar spec to a MacBook except it doesn't have the Nvidia graphics or the sleek casing. If you are not intending to do any gaming, but want a nippy machine for media playback, then this could be for you.

To buy it you click on the business machines links.
When you buy, they ask you is it for business use via a picklist.
When you buy, you agree to T&C and it is clearly stated Distance Selling regulations do not apply to business machines.

Ring trading standards. They will point out that if Distance selling regulations do not apply to business sales and if you click via a business link and agree to T&C the regulations do not apply. If you are a consumer, you should NOT buy a business product. Stick to their consumer section.

Dell is not a UK registered company. They sell from Ireland and will not engage or respond to requests for returns of machines.
They will ignore all you correspondence. The American sales team are arrogant.

But other machines of similar spec are much cheaper and can be returned within 7-days and don't have expensive support lines. As a business machine there is not even onsite warranty as standard. This cannot be returned (unless you deliberately break it and) and reject the goods on the basis of non-conformity within 7-days.

Compared to buying one I imagine you are correct but if you are buying two I very much doubt you could beat this price; unless you know different!

... because to find identical spec is not so easy. You can upgrade basic specs to get similar or better spec. Upgrade basic upgrades options like RAM are cheaper from elsewhere. Then the argument is "but you had to install RAM yourself", which is valid and costs money (time is money).

Plenty of examples are available... just "google".

Sorry for not being so specific.
Just beware of T&Cs for a business machine. NO RETURN!
(Circumvented by damaging it yourself, which is dishonest).

So you are saying there are plenty of cheaper options but you can’t name ANY and suggest I use Google! :w00t:
If you can find one 13.3” laptop with an optical drive and Win 7 Pro that weighs less than 2Kg and comes with a decent CPU and fast HDD for a similar price I’d be very interested. It’s doesn’t have to be the exact same spec but must at least be the same class of machine.

I'd rather have the HP pavillion with dual core athlon low power cpu, 13.3" screen, radeon 3200, 4gb ram and usb DVD drive. Not as quick as the core 2 duo, but less than £450 and battery will probably last a bit longer.

anyone wanna go halfs? :)

Doesn't seem that great a deal to me at £433 tbh.. plenty of other laptops around for similar money these days. Perhaps not quite as powerful CPUwise but otherwise comparable.

The loss of DSR wouldn't bother me if I wanted the laptop though, it's covered by warranty at the end of the day and it will take the same phone call to get that sorted even if it did.

Ok, then please find me a laptop with the screen size and weight of this with a built in optical drive. And while you’re at it make sure it has Win7 Pro and a 7,200 RPM HDD.
The value of this deal is in the details so regardless of whether they fit my requirements I still think it’s a hot deal for the spec:

13.3 inch WXGA CCFL Anti-Glare Display
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Weight from 1.86 kg with Optical Drive
Intel Core 2 Duo P7570(2.26GHz,1066MHz,3MB)
English Genuine Windows 7 Professional
4096MB 800 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x2GB)
320GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor

For this price and weight you normally get a CULV which has one advantage, the battery life, but in other respects will have a weaker spec.

Have a look at some of the HP pavillion laptops or the samsung Q320's. Some have 13.3" screens with built in DVD / geforce / core 2 duo 7200rpm 500gb HD. Makes this 'deal' look pretty awful.

• 500GB SATA Hard Disk
• 13.4” HD (1366 x 768) SuperBright Gloss LED Display, 16:9

Now £808.40 for two including the £90 off voucher.
If Topcashback pays outs that comes to £383.40 each.

Expired this as the 15% voucher has expired. The only £90 off voucher I am aware of is for desktops only.

The core 2 duo is a tiny bit faster than the 4300 (about 5%), yet runs at a higher frequency - hardly 'much weaker'.

Yup, weighs 400g more, but unless you're a wuss it won't make much difference ;)

£800 is a decent price if you're after two laptops or can be arsed to split with a friend, but for a stand alone price and samsung build quality, its a pretty good imo, and probably cheaper elsewhere.

agartha could you pm me when a good spec'd multimedia large screen laptop comes up as a good deal.

must have a 16"+ screen, HDMI and bluray hopefully a remote too

I do check myself but you seem to be in faster than me. I tried to buy a HP 16" from play but it looks like they took my order without having stock.... so i missed out on the 17" touch screen dell... bad times but it didn't have bluray which was a deal breaker for me.

will rep hard if you help me out.
