Another great laptop deal, nice find. Bit of a shame it isn't a full HD screen considering the power.

Very nice! Hotified.

Would there be much difference between 1080p and 720p on a 15'' would there?

That's why I said a "bit" of a shame. This deal is red hot regardless.

It isn't just the pixels that are different on this machine as it is also B+RGB LED and a hell of a lot better than the standard screen (which is why it is/was a £180 option!)

Hot deal though - i got my XPS 15 with 6GB RAM and the 1080p screen for just under £500 from the Outlet a couple of months ago.

1080p really does look good on a 15" screen - I can't understand why such a low resolution (1366x768) has become de-facto standard.

That said (for anyone not prepared to hunt down an outlet deal) this is hot.

I like the way text looks on the higher resolution screen in particular. Plus it's easier for me when matching editied images against my 1080p monitor.

This is why I'm not going to cancel my Vaio order for this - Blu Ray and better screen equals better deal for me personally, but this Dell deal is certainly better for gamers.

Anyone else finding the Dell site incredibly slow?

As above this is pretty decent gaming laptop. Got a HDMI output aswell for playing dvds on your tv if the 720p isnt for you.

Edit: Just like to say the Speakers and Base on this are bang tidy.

nice spec nice price, nice find o.p, have some heat
#13
Acer has better graphics card and spec, however Dell build is more reliable :p
#14

Dell have great keyboards and mousepads on their laptops.. which are much better than acers... so i would recommend the dell even though it looks like the acer has a bit better graphics card

The diffrence between 525M and 540M isnt even noticeable,
The speakers on this Dell will blow you away when you first hear them.

Website is still hanging after I click "continue." :|

My acer is still going strong after 3 years. Think they have improved their quality over the years.

My experience of Dell laptops isn't great, but that's probably because my friends have bought the cheapest ones, but I'd certainly choose a Dell over an Acer.

Glad to hear it, companies with a reputation for poor build quality could do with more people sharing their good experiences.

I have this laptop and after a macbook pro, the screen is a disappointment. viewing angle (vertical) and resolution is not so good. That said, I don't think its so bad that I would be prepared to pay the additional £150 or whatever it is. If the screen upgrade were under £100 I bet their uptake for that upgrade would be hugely increased.
#21
BTW its an excellent laptop for performance and as said above, sound is incredible for a lappy.
#22
As someone who ordered, received and returned a Dell XPS 17 (L702X), stay well clear of this since the XPS 15 has the exact same manufacturing fault. Been over 6 months, no fix yet.

See this thread. I ended up buying a Dell Vostro 3750 instead, very pleased now!

I also came from a Macbook and the fact that i got this machine for cheaper with better processor, better graphics, better sound.. well tbh better everything did it for me. Mac = Waste of time.

I have to disagree these laptops are brand new, they have new Sandy Bridge Processors in them aswell as new graphics Card, the model you bought 6 months ago specs no where near this.

Dude.

That thread has been going 6 months but I didn't order my XPS 17 6 months ago! I received my XPS 17 in the last week of April! It was processed for return within a few days!

My problem was I had a mouse receiver plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports. It kept cutting out. And if I plugged my external HDD in and copied anything, it'd die within the minute. Technical support said there was no fix and several people at Dell confirmed this!

I then reordered the Vostro (before returning the XPS) and that arrived yesterday and seems great (touch wood).

So you can disagree all you want but I'm the guy who posted two of the bloomin' XPS 17 threads and now I'm the one advising against it from personal experience!

This graphics card will play all current games on med-high settings[/url]

From the site you linked to the 525M Gets 25fps average playing Metro 2033 with medium settings and 13 fps average with high settings. An average of 25fps is not playable in my opinion, 20-25fps during intensely graphical moments is ok though, but not 25fps average. It is a great card though, but don't say it will play all current games on med-high if it won't!

Great price and the only thing that needs to be upgraded is the screen. Got 1st generation of XPS and the build quality with aluminium is superb!
Used to own acer as well before and it was quite plasticky, but good performance for money.

Heat added, this deal is blazing hot!

When I go to Dell from the link, the site just hangs. When I go to the website directly I can't configure the XPS 15 to this spec at this price. What am I doing wrong?

*edit* Finally configured the same spec, but final price is £689.00 and when I add the code I get the message "Coupons Entered
The following coupons have been entered but require additional information or do not meet eligibility requirements. Click "View Details" link(s) for more information."

Clicking "view details" offers no further information. oO

Have to spell everything out to a few people.

Yes, I bought my XPS in April, less than a month ago, so that is correct.

And that thread has been open for six months on Dell's forum and still no fix, so also correct in regards to this problem being ongoing for six months too.

Hey if you want to buy this, fine! But be warned, I really wanted an XPS and spent almost 800 quid on one, waited almost a month, was so excited, and then spent several days trying to sort a refund and then waiting for Dell to collect it from me and still waiting for the refund to my card.

There's the advice, if you want it, take it!
