Dell have finally released the XPS15 9560 2017 model on the UK site. I am moving over from the MBP range as I feel the new model is just far too expensive for what it is.

I have gone for the 16gb 512gb SSD model which has an RRP of £1599. I have managed to bring this down to £1439.10 which I think is a cracking price! I got this using the code: GJ7$8DW5?37HL$

If there is a limit on the use of the code then you can get £100 off using the standard "PREMIUM" code and negotiate down on chat to £1,452.78

Notes:
1) The 512GB SSD has been confirmed (by several sources) to have the 97 whr battery. For piece of mind I'd check with someone on chat.
2) There are two variants of keyboard - make sure you get the one with fingerprint reader (at no extra cost)
'Palmrest for Belgium, Czech/Slovak, French, German, Italian, N-EEUR, Portugal, Spanish, Swiss, Turkish and UK keyboard'.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Did that come with Nvidia GTX1050 and a Kaby Lake i7?

Strange I wanted to buy one of the in Dec but they only had 13 in new processor. I was told the 15 wouldn't be out till April.

After CES2017 it was pretty much announced. Came out in the US 2 weeks ago so it was an agonising wait!

That wouldve been Skylake and 960 i think the upgrade is significant and worth the £140 extra personally.

Bought this earlier using this code. 6% topcashback tracked for me, but not sure if I'll get it

That looks like a superb machine, really. Can't really see this needing to be replaced for what 5 years plus? That is for everything except gaming of course. But if you don't game, this is more likely to break than slow down. Blabbering comment I know, just seems for so long something is always lacking on these machines but with these desktop GPUs and PCIe storage are really future proof. I'm into my Thinkpads personally as I don't game on laptops but this is deffo worth the investment. Far more value than a MBP

This seems very expensive to me. You can get a laptop with a proper Nvidia 1060 for this kind of money.

Completely agree. I used to be an apple fanboy (the majority of whom I suspect have voted this cold!) but this blows the new MBP out the water pound for pound. The XPS13 is widely recognised as the best ultrabook out there as well so Dell are clearly doing something right.

Please let us know if the touch pad is still terrible or is it redesigned? Last years one was noisy, terrible feedback and was loose. I returned it.

Forums suggest this has been rectified but I guess time will tell. I did try to wait a few weeks to see what the feedback was but figured the XPS13 has received good press since its release and that has more or less the same hardware so screw it!

Must admit hadn't seen much about this and will intentionally avoid the subject as i've ordered!

Thought i'd point out that i'll be connecting this to 3 screens using the Plugable USB-C docking station. Looks better than Dell's own ones.

You have to request it via chat as they are selling two variants at the same time. Make sure the wording is the same as what i've listed above

It's high spec, but no better built than your average £400-£500 laptop. First hand experience.

Looks a good deal but I still personally prefer the XPS15 for the size, better battery life and general aesthetics. I'm also not a gamer so such a good graphics card isn't top on my priority list. Good find though hope it helps someone else!

My first XPS 13 had a loose/noisy (clicky) touch pad but I requested a replacement laptop and sent the original back. Replacement was & has been perfect. Saw a few people with similar issues at the time (back in 2015) and it could be DIY-fixed with a square of insulating tape under the pad but I wasn't doing that on a brand-new £1k laptop! Hopefully they've tightened up the quality control / tolerances since :)

I don't think I've got the fingerprint reader, it's not in the specs. Estimated delivery date is 10th Feb though which is the same as most people that are opting for fingerprint reader. I'm not too worried either way, I rarely lock/restart my laptop :)

I think you can turn touch off in the BIOS if that's what you're thinking. I would like to have 4k in matte though

Fair comment, it does work if you disable the adblocker, but an adblocker shouldn't really be blocking a complete, regular page should it? It doesn't block other sites so you can't really point the finger at the adblocker.

I can't see the option for a fingerprint reader?

Nevermind, seen you do it via chat!

I originally had the 9530, this was upgraded to a 9550 after 18 months due to ongoing issues, the 9550 was swapped 4 times until I was happy (and blagged 32gb ram 1tb SSD for my troubles) I have had the screen flicker bug and as the latest round of fixes have only slowed it they have offered me a full refund so I am ordering this tomorrow!

Bought the 4k touch 9550 16gb (ditched later for 32gb of 2400 corsair vengeance) i7 proc 512gb ssd for £1524 inc VAT on black friday (12% off), currently awaiting cashback of circa £120 TCB to come through effectively making it £1400 once (if) it comes through.

Use it mainly for editing 4k video and photos, chomps through them effortlessly. The 4k touch is well worth the extra money, really is a great screen. Beats a crapple dongle book hands down for the money.

I got excited when you said you brought the price down for the brand new model to £1452, I almost started writing the ebay advert for my one and then realised it was only the 1080p non-touch :(

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next Black Friday :) (Good deal though)

It's high spec, but no better built than your average £400-£500 laptop. First hand experience.

Is build quality really that important for a laptop that's primarily intended for gaming?

I've bought four laptops in the last nine years and if the price of 1050 Ti laptops drops down to the £700 mark (which I think they will) I'll buy a fifth one. My two year old Asus with it's Nvidia 850m GPU will then be consigned to gathering dust in a cupboard along with the others.

The point I'm making is that nothing ages as fast as a laptop GPU. A couple of years pass and what looked super fast when you bought it is a donkey by today's standards. So if you accept that whatever you buy is going to be redundant, just buy mid range stuff to last you a couple of years and don't sweat the 'quality' thing.

4K Matte Non-Touch would be perfect imo.

Who touches their laptop screen and why?

I would have said yes. It needs to be able to withstand daily life being carried around, if your not going portable with it what's the point in not using a desktop? Horses for courses though - build quality is high on my list, which is why I like Thinkpads. If that's not a priority for you that's cool too.

Completely agree. I used to be an apple fanboy (the majority of whom I suspect have voted this cold!) but this blows the new MBP out the water pound for pound. The XPS13 is widely recognised as the best ultrabook out there as well so Dell are clearly doing something right.

Can't agree with that I'm afraid, the T560 is highly rated (but you knew where I was going with this) not that I would care about ratings, I've used these machines all my professional career. With my 6 cell battery I get 20.5 hours out of the dual batteries as well. yes 20.5 hours. There is a sticker that says ultrabook on it :P
