A nice price friendly compromise between mobility and power.

The arrival of the Ultra books and 3rd gen processors means these have been devalued probably far more than they should have.

are these any good? had a dell years ago and it was awful!

How does this compare spec wise to the Sony Vaio deal that just expired, I missed out on that one..

Specs are alright, screen's alright, not as good as the XPS 15 1080p.
build quality is shocking, they overheat and the fan is loud under stress.

added the 12% off code, completely forgot sorry. I've had a dell for the past 8 months and its been great. was an xps 17. No problems with overheating even when playing some games on ultra. Graphics card was slightly better but processor was far worse. Also this IS 1080p

Build quality of what - the XPS15z? I have a XPS15 and I don't see how the build quality could realistically be any higher? It never overheats (on the rare occasion the fan actually turns on, it's blowing out cold air unless I'm playing a particularly intensive game!) and the fan is no louder than any other full-sized laptop of this power I've ever seen. Can the 15z really be that much worse?

I'd definitely go for the MacBook Air for a little extra money for the build quality reasons mentioned earlier by another person.

No, XPS15s are decent, especially with the 1080p screen upgrade, build quality is fine.
These however aren't, they're a cut price MacBook and the build quality is rubbish. The 1080p screen isn't the same as on the XPS15, it's a very average WLED panel.
As a previous contributor said, save a little extra and go for a Vaio or a MacBook / Air. You'll regret buying this.

Seems a good spec, I wouldn't worry about the screen on it too much as it's only a 15" screen, still to steep for my liking, but as far as the market goes it's a real bargain. Dell make good stuff and are at least as good as any other laptop manufacturer in my book, I don't quite get the comments about buying a Macbook, as these are vastly lower spec/more expensive and surely you'd only want one if you were shopping for a Macbook, ie why would they be looking at laptop deals ?!?

the screen on this is exactly the same as the XPS one , check the website. Looking at serveal reivews they seem to aim this higher than XPS's
