A nice price friendly compromise between mobility and power.
The arrival of the Ultra books and 3rd gen processors means these have been devalued probably far more than they should have.

build quality is shocking, they overheat and the fan is loud under stress.
Build quality of what - the XPS15z? I have a XPS15 and I don't see how the build quality could realistically be any higher? It never overheats (on the rare occasion the fan actually turns on, it's blowing out cold air unless I'm playing a particularly intensive game!) and the fan is no louder than any other full-sized laptop of this power I've ever seen. Can the 15z really be that much worse?

No, XPS15s are decent, especially with the 1080p screen upgrade, build quality is fine.
These however aren't, they're a cut price MacBook and the build quality is rubbish. The 1080p screen isn't the same as on the XPS15, it's a very average WLED panel.
As a previous contributor said, save a little extra and go for a Vaio or a MacBook / Air. You'll regret buying this.

the screen on this is exactly the same as the XPS one , check the website. Looking at serveal reivews they seem to aim this higher than XPS's
