What is this Tesco deal? Had a quick look about but couldnt see anything on it....?
#7
Hi , i cant see Tesco offering a computer with this sort of spec? The cache and bus speeds would be slower and i wouldn't expect a GFX card of anywhere near that standard.

This pc was cheaper earlier in the year, and the tesco deal was another £100 more expensive, this pc has become dearer and the tesco one cheaper, the tesco one comes with a lot of bundled software including antivirus and office suite (Tesco branded) and twice as much hard disc....I still think the Dell deal is better, however, the gap has closed a little.
Computeractive seem to quite like the tesco deal, although it is noisy.
To make it clear I gave this a Hot Vote..sorry for any confusion
#13
from the specs this is an incredible machine?

the 8800gt graphics card is much better than the tesco one no?
#14
oh yes the 8800GT in this system can run most games out there at high res on max settings and even have a crack at crysis on very high. The 8600gts isnt really in the same league - it can be had for less than a hundred where as you looking at 170 + for the 8800gt.

dont think this PC has been cheaper but there were some upgrades on this until the 9th for very little extra cash - still great price for what you get.
#15
ok im in need of a new gaming machine 2 and i thought id wait until after xmas to get the best deal. Do you think they will come down anymore or should i buy buy buy? :w00t:
#16

#17

#21

banned#22
This is much better that the Tesco machine - the graphics card is worth £100 more

/edit I've ordered one £572.10
#23
just realised you can buy now and pay Jan 2008 for a fixed fee of 49 quid - that may just have clinched it for me ! Got no money now so wait to pay it a year when I'll still have no free cash - SOLD !
#24
Anyone know if you can get digital out from these things, I have a surround sound system with spare inputs I'd like to hook up to it for a games machine.

Any of the sounds options allow that?
#25
Caved in and got one of these with 2Gb Ram. Where is my best bet to get another 2Gb from?
#26
There are a couple of really good XPS 420s on the Dell Outlet site for £453 inclusive. They’re in my basket and will be released in about 5 minutes or so if you’re interested.
#27
Hot!

Is the ram in 2 x 1gb sticks?

Yes, I am willing to bet my house that this spec PC will be cheaper in the future, but that's like saying I bet you tomorrow you will be 1 day older.

got one with 4 gb ram for £680
#33
Would have been cheaper to buy this one and stick your own ram in - www.hotukdeals.com/item/138049/ocz-4gb-ddr2-pc2-6400-800mhz-enhanc/

got this one yesterday but had a nightmare ordering it, still not sure if its all gone thru. Not recieved conformatoion of payment yet, anyone no how long that takes? My visa debit card works on all other transactions online but dell said abbey would release the funds. i phoned abbey in INIDA!!! and they said they had and even hung up on me twice. Almost left my bank ive been with for 20 years and if my dad hadnt paid on his card id still be none the wiser.
#35
is 2 gig of ram gunna be just fine on this system or would you advise me to get 4 gig? also how many slots are there to put ram in? and is it 2 1 gigs in this sysem? tavmuch!!:w00t:
#36

You appear to be saving a mere £30 by opting for a video card worth ~£50-£70 less i.e. 8600GTS instead of 8800GT - that's quite a dramatic performance difference too...

If you are happy with slower graphics, may as well buy this

I would suggest that you buy 2GB now and then upgrade cheaper later on. You can use ReadyBoost under Vista with a USB flash stick (which you will have but it needs to write at least 2.5 MB/s. Then the system will let you know how useful ReadyBoost is , if ReadyBoost is active in using the memory in your flash stick then it is time to replace it with DDR2 memory which is closer and faster for the CPU. If you don't have a fast enough 4GB usb flash stick to use then fork out £15 or so to get one.
#38
How easy is it to get compatible RAM? I may buy one of these but although I fancy 4gb RAM the price to upgrade 2-4gb is way too high. So I'd need another 2gb from elsewhere or possibly 4gb and swapout the whole lot.

:)
#39
Is this deal finished now, was interested but does not seem to open on offer like normal?
#40
The link no longer works and you can't navigate to the PC via the Dell website.....but I did save Dell's URL which still works, I ordered mine yesterday.

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b&c=uk&l=en&oc=D01X403&s=dhs&fb=1&dgc=AF&cid=5212&lid=122756

You'll have to double check the offers still apply once added to your basket.

Maybe someone can edit the 'got to deal' link to use the one I've listed above?

:)
