Anybody know if i'm going to have problems with the 64bit windows, i'll be adding this to a small office network, some running vista 32bit and some running xp, also are all my programmes going to be installable or will i be spending acouple of weeks downloading new software, eg. autocad, CS3, and various drivers. i'm completely clueless so any advice is welcome

Seriously, though, if you are adding this to a business network you should be doing your research. 32-bit apps will run fine in 64-bit Vista, but if you do have any problems you can always reinstall using the 32-bit version instead as the keys work for both versions. Any special drivers you will need to download, but MS is much better than they used to be with their stock drivers.

Some apps and drivers might not work on 64-bit. But, you need to have the 64-bit OS if you are getting more than 4 GB of RAM.

Good price for a great computer, Dell are well underated when they lower their prices!

Nice but no option to remove the monitor. My Vostro desktop will be two years old in September and as I need it for my business it has to be reliable. Lets hope some more Dell offers are forthcoming between now and then.

Not a bad deal altho i could build something for £650 with a better processor and Radeon 4850.

If you mainly run popular programs like autocad and CS3 you'll have no problems, it's generally older devices or badly behaved programs that won't support vista 64-bit.

I was looking at this machine this morning. Personally, for most applications, I would suggest getting the 4096MB 1333 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [4x1024] option rather than getting 6GB memory as suggested by the OP, particularly if you plan on using a 32-bit OS.

This seems to be as good as any of the other deals about at the minute so after 3 - 4 days of looking for a reasonable spec desktop to use as a home development environment decided to order one tonight - estimate of 10 working days delivery in case anyone was wondering.

I hadn't read Alex's post, but it seems we have a similar opinion as I opted for the following:
21.5" TFT Full HD (Instead of 20" 1600x900), 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ and the 32Bit version of Vista Home Premium.

I am still pondering whether to go for this myself - your RAM choice was definitely good IMHO.

I have just got the following from Dell Outlet which I think beats this deal - no monitor though ?

Studio XPS Intel Core i7 Processor 920 (2.66GHz)
Operating System: Operating System English Genuine Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium (64 BIT)
Memory: Memory 3072MB (3x1024) 1067MHz DDR3 Tri Channel
Hard Disk Drive: 750GB HD Serial ATA non Raid (7200 Rpm)
Video: Graphics 512MB ATI Radeon 4850 Graphics card
CD Read-Write Drive: DVD+/-RW, 16

Came to £620 inc delivery just in case anyone wants to know what is currently on there.

I received mine today having ordered it late Saturday.

My spec is pretty close to the OPs, first impressions are really positive.
