Nice price for a nice laptop, but you can get a better deal at the moment on a Dell L502 from the Dell Factory Outlet with a 1920x1080p screen and a Geforce 555M graphics card for £456ish. I got mine from the factory outlet and it was delivered still with the stickers on the laptop, don't even think it was opened or used? I'm running OSX 10.7.4 on it at the moment, just with the Geforce graphics chip disabled and using the Intel HD3000 - still good for the work I do.

but for a new laptop paying an extra 100 odd quid is worth it. outlet ones are refurbs and prone to fail. ive had some that have got faulty from the outlet.

but never the less i would still think they have decent laptops and the service is great if one does get faulty!

Rubbish, they are no different to new laptops. They are 99% cancelled or incorrect orders. I have bought probably about 20 over the last couple of years and not one has showed any sign of any use. They also have exactly the same warranty.

Also i bought 25 netbooks off there once for a school i work at - they can't all be faulty returns especially when the serial numbers follow on......as i said they are cancelled/overorders.

Dell Outlet everytime if you can find the same spec or better for cheaper.

That’s good to hear, I have a refurb on the way and was worried I was taking a bit of a gamble.

I wouldn't buy another dell, I currently have one of these with the g540m and it has many issues, motherboard, AC adaptor, drivers etc. I can't play any games without it crashing.

Have a XPS15 and have had zero problems with it.

    Drivers is hardly an 'issue'

Why have 1gb on such a weak gpu? (especially on such a low rez screen)Very pointless. I bet nvidia are trying to confuse the non tech savvy into believing more graphics memory=faster gpu.

Decent value, but be prepared for a BIG laptop. These dells L502x and L702x are really massive and thick if you're used to modern laptops. So great if you are using mainly at home as a desktop replacement, not so much if you're planning on lugging the thing round with you.

Yep, my one literally hasn't moved in a year. It's the 17inch model which is just massive and heavy. I'd imagine the 15inch one to also be thick and heavy. Definitely not ideal if you're moving around a lot.

Also, I should add that it is pretty loud too. The Vostro I have is almost a silent fan in comparision to this one (even at idle). But the 15inch range could be different from the XPS 17. Just something to take into account if you want a silent laptop.

My XPS15 is silent for normal usage - the only time the fan even turns on is if I use something like Photoshop or play a modern game on it (or occasionally when Chrome/Flash crashes and slows down the whole thing!).

I was surprised how chunky it was, but it's certainly not that heavy. No heavier than a normal 15" laptop anyway.

Yer can only go with my experiance. Have used it once and got an XPS 17 1st gen. Using it now too and had it over a year, and was is immaculate condition when I got it. Having researched the outlet beforehand, I discovered that 99% of people say they come looking new.

I wouldn't pay £100 more over the dell outlet, but I probably would for other refurbs I didn't know much about.

I must have bought 6 laptops from Outlet. And not one has given me any issues.

new ones are prone to fail which is why they have repaired refurb ones, having had the fault fixed they are less likely to fail than a new one

youre wrong there. most of refurbs are returns not faulty. if they were faulty they wouldnt be able to use them again. things like laptop lids or the housing maybe used with some cosmetic damage

But is it a misprice? You never know with Dell. You might buy it and get accused of being dishonest.

I've had one for just over a year and its been an excellent laptop although mine is only an i5 but it does have a backlit keyboard, the N6230 Wifi/Bluetooth chip and a 1080p screen - which is a MUST. I upgraded it to 8GB and swapped out the HDD for an SSD. Two things I don't like about it - the power and hdd access lights are behind the screen so you can't see them (WHY??????) and i've had to have two replacement psu's which I blame on bad design. The connector hangs out the back of the laptop about an inch then you have a large ferrite ring just after that so if its not on a desk the weight eventually makes the wire loose from the connector. First the blue light stops working then when thats happened it goes looser and I rang up Dell to complain and they sent out a new one. I now use it exclusively on a desk as I don't fancy buying a new psu every couple of months now its out of warranty. I paid £555 for mine

I agree about the power and hdd lights...just damn annoying. I have had one for nearly 2 years now and not had an issue with the power adapter besides it falling out now and again if I am sitting with it on my lap.
