Unfortunately that deal expired at midnight due to the 15% voucher having expired.

This is the next best deal, with slightly different specs

I've made the deal slightly clearer now, hopefully someone will bump it in the morning, as it seems to be a great deal!

Actually - I think there might be a voting glitch atm
If you look at all recent threads they are all showing '0' as the temperature

Excellent spec and price but the 1366x768 panel is absolutely terrible quality and ruins an otherwise great laptop, if you upgrade to the 1920x1080 on the other hand you'd have one of the best laptop screens available to date.

Voted hot for price, but otherwise avoid, 2GB graphics RAM is not needed for this resolution.
#9
Not a bad price for an i7 Sandybridge, I'm tempted but will have a look at the 1080 option.
#10
has someone left the heating on?
#11
great price

very hot

it was around £750 few months ago for the same spec

Usually the dell deals on here are crap but this one looks pretty good!

Have the XPS with the 1920x1080 option and can highly recommend it (except for working outside in bright sunlight!)

I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about.

Dell's financial year finishes at the end of January, so they always do their best sales at the end of each quarter - January, April, July and October.

He's right on all counts: the 720p screen used on the XPS is terrible, the 1080p one is fabulous (yes, I do own one and this is from first-hand experience), and 2GB of video ram is entirely wasted on a GeForce 540M because the main situation where you'd need more than 1GB (running a complex game at 1080p with 4x or greater AA switched on) the GPU will already be chugging along, it's just a mid-range part an not intended for that kind of load.

£559 is great for the spec and build quality. Compare this to some similar specs like the Acer Aspire 5750G which is £691 and PC World have a Dell Inspiron 15R with the same base spec, but with a slower GF 525 card for £699 (PC World have knocked off £200 on a higher model and added Blu-Ray, 6GB RAM and 750GB HDD - Still not worth an extra £140).

To those moaning - you WILL NOT get a full HD screen at this price with a Core i7 and dedicated graphics. Please let me know if you do.

It is a desktop replacement, but I need to be able to carry it easily between my house and my parents. I have a full HD monitor at home - I will just connect it to this if I need a full hd resolution. As for Blu-Ray and HD movies - what are downloads for?

Great find OP and thanks to realblender for the voucher codes. Have some heat.

Only problem there is you have to catch Outlet just when it's done a inventory refresh, otherwise the best spec - prices will be gone within minutes
#22
How much additional power does a 9 cell battery hold, as I'm unsure whether to pay an extra £20 to upgrade the battery?

Try going to dell homepage and then searching the laptop using the ecode

Yes that is the outlet. It's like playing Russian Roulette. Who knows what quality the laptop maybe in? Everytime I'm on, I stuggle to find any cancelled orders.
#26
Voted hot as this is a great laptop, although this is a lot more expensive than the exact same machine I got from the dell factory outlet two months ago? I got exactly the same machine for £629 but with a 9 cell battery, DVD/RW BluRay Combo drive, and high quality 1920x1080 screen. Laptop was delivered as new with all cellophane covering and not a mark on the machine!!! Then I bought 8gb Crucial ram for £45 and replaced it myself!!!! I'm now dual booting Windows 7 and MacOSX 10.6.8 on this fast quad core beast!!!

For anyone who want's the backlit keyboard here's how to do it.

Choose some customizations, then disable your wireless/take out the ethernet. Once no internet is connected to your machine, click on a customization option (anything) . A box should prompt you for some error.

BEFORE pressing anything on the error, connect the internet, press OK or eq, then you should have a different old style layout for customizing where the backlit can be added near the bottom for £30.

Easier way is to just click on 'SWITCH TO LIST VIEW' and then scroll down and change it there

Oh didn't know that just works lol, when I used it about a month ago it was still hidden in list view until I did that above way, maybe they made it more easily available now :)

Anyone else having any problems doing that? When I click on "SWITCH TO LIST VIEW" (or even on the "Continue" button), everything freezes. This happens on Firefox and IE on my Windows 7 laptop, and also happens on Chrome on Ubuntu. Can't be doing their sales any good!

I did a bit of poking, and it turns out that it works if I browse to this URL instead: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&kc=&oc=N00X5M06EPP

Ouch, the upgrade to 1920x1080 costs £170. It was only £70 when I did that upgrade on my Studio 15 last year (seemed like the cheapest way to get a decent 1920x1080 laptop at the time)
#34
is the 720p screen really that bad? or is it just more standard than the other one?
How are dells for battery life and reliability?

I was looking at this one vs the Lenovo e520 (https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_ThinkPad_Edge_E520_1076383.html)

Any suggestions?

thats why i got mine from the outlet and saved over £300. they usually put the really good deals on at the end of the month.
mine was in perfect condition, not a scratch at all. and if anything is wrong with it, tech will be at your door next day to fix it.

The screens not THAT bad it's usable but the viewing angles aren't fantastic I have the older version of this with the smaller battery and that lasts about 4 1/2 hours

On low power settings the 9 cell battery will give you about 8-9 hours of battery life. Pretty impressive really. However it does add a fair bit of weight and protrudes out of the bottom of the laptop quite a bit. Digs into your legs a bit when resting it on your lap though on a desk it makes using the keyboard quite ergonomic.

The comment about screen resolution pops up on here quite a bit, personally I think the res is fine for the size of laptop.

The graphics card is superb for a laptop, and the spec for the money in general is amazing. This will be very quick at every task and will game very well, buy buy buy (if I did not use macs I would be right on this one)

I have the XPS L701x and it's a lovely laptop. Very good price for a very good laptop.
