You must buy the system through DELL BUSINESS, it won't work otherwise - I can't remember exactly how this affects your rights if for example you wanted to return the laptop.

What are the implications of buying Dell Business for Home?
Does anyone know?

thanks

I had a word with dell support. It seems there is no difference except for the operating system includes business suite . Warranty / rights have no affect if you buy this or from home section. Hot for me :)
#3
I don't think you are covered by the distance selling regulations if you buy from dell business, but I could be wrong!

It comes naturally , having worked in the same industry during initial days of my career . So , i know how one feels on the other side of desk.

and can I have some reason for voting this deal cold ( from people in general not specifically you ) .

just ordered this expected delivery is 17 March.
ordered better spec processor 2.5Ghz, 9 cell battery, 1920x 1200 screen and the accidental cover for 2 yrs. total is £940 delivered still a very good price for the spec.

2 things not sure on: the static small shock from metal palm rest and if this is a full HD screen.
#8
Thanks for posting this. More than I had planned to spend...

One thing you must know about dell: they lie, especially about returns/refunds. I know for a fact they treat business orders differently from home orders in terms of refunds, because they tried to fob me off when I ordered a Outlet laptop (and claimed it was a business order) and thus I could not return it.
#10
That is an unbelievable deal how did you come across it? I had a look on Dell website i couldnt find the number N03X5306 (you are saving over £500) I can only see N03X5304 which is more expensive? Just interested?
#11
Trial and error, modifying the e-value code is the easiest method of finding the best system on offer.

so what did u do in the end?
#13
XPS laptops are excellent I have one and i bought another for my sister.. I do get the odd static shock mind it's not too bad.

I have had the mobo replaced on both machines, I believe this was because of a surge.. both were covered by the warrenty service was promt and efficant.
#14
Why can't I recreate this price on the Dell website? I want to order via Quidco but when I come to build the laptop on their website the price comes out at over £300 more expensive even though I am choosing the exact spec that this links to. I'm confused

Save it to your basket then go back in via QC and recall basket...or use the N03X5306 ecode...DO NOT try and build it yourself

The offer is advertised on the Dell site so it's a genuine deal.

You need to go to the dell site through your cashback site of choice and use the evalue code quoted in the first post to this thread - that will get you onto the correct configuration on Dell's site so you can get the right price

Man this is tempting, my Vostro 1500 is only 10 months old though so I should probably hide fire for another 6-12 months. Bargain though, this should be snapped up.

This is a very good deal, i was about to buy a new laptop today. Had this in mind from Ebuyer;

I thought this was a good deal^^ Making the purchase today any suggestions? I'm in two minds now. Are the Xps series good and reliable? And anyone know what the build quality is like?

My wife's sister has an XPS which also needed a new motherboard - in fact a lot of XPS laptops are requiring new motherboards due to a problem with the graphics chip in them. A lot of them were failing just as the warranties were expiring.

This may have been addressed by now, but I'd be very careful and seek assurances. There are horror stories out there of people going through multiple motherboards...

Check out youtube or look up XPS vertical lines of death on google.

The xps series are very good, esp now they have been road-tested. Build quality is excellent now too. There were some probs with the graphics cards on the old mobo, but that seems to have been sorted. We have three atm (but selling one) and have been very happy with them. If I hadn't bought another M1330 recently, I'd get this one. Great price if you want the larger screen. Heat and rep to the OP

The problem with the graphics card was AFAIK limited to the 128mb chip overheating...this has not been evident with the 256mb chip

Fantastic find. Quidco knocks another £26.00 off the price. Don't think I could justify a new laptop just yet. Great spec, great quality and great price.
#27
The upgrades are tempting on this too, eh? SSD, 3 years warranty and 1920x1200 display is what I'd go for... do I need another XPS?!

But even if you don't take upgrades, I'd certainly opt for the 64 bit Vista at no extra charge. It will allow you to add 8GB of RAM in future (although don't buy RAM upgrade from Dell as they are extortionate). The 32 bit version doesn't even allow full use of the 4GB that comes with it...

top find mate!

I think quidco cashback only applies to Dell Home, not Businesses.
If you go with topcashback they give you 5% instead of 4% and you can make it through Dell Business

This is a great price!

The processor is best bang for buck and upgrading it would not be worth the money (in my opinion).

With the 8600M GT you will be able to play pretty much all the games you can throw at it, mostly on high detail.

Having the bluray writer is a bonus, along with the 500 gig hard drive, apart from the standard screen you are basically getting a fully loaded machine here for an excellent price!

Also, those who mention there is a problem with the graphics card in this machine, Dell offers an additional year after your warranty runs out if your card goes faulty

Mine also needed a new motherboard.

yes, so did one of mine (M1330) but was done next day at home by an engineer under the NBD warranty and it was a machine with the 128MB graphics card. This is a known issue and Dell will even replace out of warranty according to what I've read.
#33
Great deal! Not for me but according to notebookcheck.net, this can run Crysis at full speed on the lowest settings but it does struggle on the highest. Also I noticed it's 512 MB dedicated, not the advertised 256 MB. But anyway, if I had the money I'd definitely go for this.

Looks like an excellent deal. Slightly gutted though because I just ordered a lower spec Dell Studio Laptop for £570. Be warned though, I only ordered an new laptop because the graphics card on my old XPS laptop costing £1500 went bust after only 2 1/2 years and it would cost over £400 to fix. It seems to be a known problem with XPS laptops (problem may have been fixed in the newer models though).

Still a hot deal.

Quidco applies for business as well.

This is an excellent machine. I am using it since Oct 2008.

I ordered almost the same spec in Oct 2008, except for a bette processor (XPS M1530 CORE 2 DUO T9300 2.50GHz,800,6M), 9 cell battery, however, the Blue Ray stuff was not included, only 1 yr support & 3 months McAfee, rest all same. Even though it says 400 GB hard drive, I received 500 GB when it came. I got it for GBP 699 including VAT & Del and since it is is ordered thru my company, I got the VAT refunded, thus and I got £26 from Quidco as well. Net amount GBP 568.90. :-)

In fact this was a mis-price and therefore Dell cancelled my order saying my credit card company denied payment. I had to fight for almost a week before I could get it re-processed for the same price.

On Notebookcheck, the max. memory is listed as 512 MB.

Even this review says it's 512 MB:

That's why I'm a little confused.

I think that's wrong though. It's not 512MB dedicated memory - perhaps someone else will clarify this.

Official site states it's as 512 MB. I mean why won't they list anything related to the number 256? :| Anyway, I don't know why I'm so concerned. :P
