That looks like a really good price...

You seem to no your Dells, what is better between the 1525 and the XPS, for value for money. This seems like a good deal to me but I can get blue ray in the 1525 for same price. Would you say I should go for this?? Which looks better?

Thanks

Ben

think this baby has HDMI out...plug it straight into your tv...instant gratification

SCORCIO!!!!!!!! man thats a hot heal!!!! buy this baby! Got the same graphics card in my lower spec 1720 (C2D centrino 1.6) 2 gig 250 gb webcam 85 whr 9 cell which i thought was a bargain @ 572. This is STONKING!!!!!! anyways my point was that you can happily play most games on mine i.e. BF2142 / C.O.H / C.O.D 2+3 quite happily. GREAT FIND wish i hadnt got mine now...... :( although its prettier ;)

ps if you can get the battery upgrade as playing 3d games will dratically shorten your battery usage time. my 9 cell gives around hr and a half playing cod / bf2142. over 3 hrs desktop stuff!

Please check the deal and take it to checkout AND add the voucher before stating the price has changed. Others may miss a deal due to misinformation.

This deal is STILL £594.16 delivered.

sorry my bad :(

Good deal, bought one of these 2 weeks ago with 3yr warranty, smaller 2GB ram, and 2.4Ghz chip, for £749 which is £29 more expensive than todays deal. Wonder if I can call and get a price match discount, have they got some kind of policy? Had almost sent it back cuz I wasn't use to the extremely reflective screen, Dell were kind enough to offer to pick it up free of charge and refund the money but I changed my mind, you have 7 working days to return it.

Got this laptop but with 2gb RAM and 240gb hard drive in the misprice in April for £450. This is a great deal though.
#12
Doh! Still kicking myself for missing that one!
#13
good deal

is it worth getting the XPS 1710 with slightly lower specs than this one for about 50 quid more?

Not really.

Awesome deal once again Mike

sorry if this is a technically-dumb question, but somebody told me that matching pairs of RAM are recommended - i.e. 2GB or 4GB - for some kind of speed increase...? Is 3GB ok after all?
#19
I got one of these last week and am returning in to Dell as I'm not happy with the brightness of the 1440x900 LCD screen - I've tried adjusting the brightness / graphics card settings but it still doesn't look as crisp / bright as the Vaio or HPs I've seen, or even the 1280x800 screen on the M1530 in PC World. I've found quite a few comments online that are simialr regarding Samsung LCDs on this model.

Is there anyone out there who has a M1530 and is happy with the screen? What resolution have you got?

I'm thinking of ordering another as I think the other features are great and like the design of the machine, just feel the LCD I got lets it down

Great deal - voted hot!

It's put me in a slight dilemma though - I can get an HP Pavilion DV6853EA for £599 on my EPP (Employee Purchase Programme) which has pretty much identical specs, bar the graphics card which is an 8400M GS.

As I'm not too fussed about running games I'm leaning towards the HP because I like the looks and it feels pretty sturdy - can anyone comment on what the m1530 is like 'in the flesh' as I've not yet seen one? How does it compare with an HP Pavilion?

Cheers, Matt.

Vista and Xp 32 bit (which about 90% of people use) will only accept a max of 3GB of RAM, if you get 4GB then you get a bit wasted.

Tell me about it , i had the XPSM1530 Laptop with an LG Screen but the palm rest was scratched. Not major, but enough for me to phone Dell.

Dell sent a replacement laptop, immediately i noticed a difference between the two screens , turns out 2nd one was fitted with a Samsung screen, then i found a load of people with the same problems.

Spoke to Dell who wouldn't do anything other than refund the laptop , i said i just want the screen replaced not a laptop. Got nowhere, phoned Technical up, they sent a new laptop wih a Samsung screen!!! Arggh

Phone Dell again today and they agreed to send an engineer with new screen , gave part number for LG monitor, was told that Dell no longer stock the part, it was stopped at the beginning of the year. I said no because the original Dell came with an LG Screen. The Dell techie said he would speak to someone and look into it some more.

I said good i want the LG Screen otherwise i will have to return the laptop for a refund.

What do you mean by "slightly lower"? The 1710 can a better graphics card and has a lovely big screen so might be a good choice if you're interested in something that you can game on and still move about from place to place. It's more of a desktop replacement than a true portable though.

I am interested in this but I want to have digital (s/pdif)out from the headphones(audio) jack for my digital speakers.

Can anyone confim that this Dell does? :)

looked at manual, no mention of it. :?

Also are the fan loud?

for the XPS 1710..lower specs meaning slower processor and not as many extra's as this one...i saw it on the outlet. its gone now anyway

is it worth upgrading the LCD to WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ for £10?

I got the following screen on my M1530 order a couple of weeks ago which seems fine to me:
1280x800 - WXGA
CPT Chunghwa CPT141F - Dell P/N: TM121

Thanks, but that's a different issue. I know that 32 bit systems will only see about 3.5GB of RAM. The question is about putting two different sizes of RAM stick in a dual-channel machine. i.e. - not the amount of RAM available (your answer) but about the speed of the RAM being affected by whether two matching sticks have been put into the two slots.

go to montiors in device manager , find hardware id under details , it should give you some letters and numbers which you can google and find out what it is , chances are is a samsung , lg or another one which name escapes me

I ordered on the 28th May and it arrived last Thursday, it's a 1400x 900 Samsung SEC3157. I thought the extra £20 upgrade was worth it but I'm now thinking I might get a standard 1280 before they pick the other one up so I can compare.

Thanks for the feedback Gino, I'm sure there must be good and bad screens from each manufacturer, found these comments on notebookreview.com

Re: XPS M1530 WXGA Screen Alternatives?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well son of ****, I've got an XPS with a Chunghwa on it's way to me. So this thing seems to be:

A. Not too grainy
B. **** viewing angles
C. Potentially severe light bleeding
D. Not as bad as the Samsung
E. Not as good as the LG

I guess I'll just hope for the best. Does anyone have any glowing reviews for the Chunghwa? (Dell p/n TM121)

The viewing angle thing is a bit troubling to me...

Yeah, I noticed that.
And I think when I checked the dell US website, to buy a 9 cell (not upgrade) was the equivalent of about £80... so if you have a holiday over there, pick one up... that's what I'm planning to do re. batteries etc. for my SLR camera.. have them delivered to the resort I'm staying at to pick up on arrival...

Yes, 3GB is OK as long as it is 2x1GB + 2x512MB - you can't have 3x1GB. That's what they mean by matching pairs.

whats wrong with 2 x 1GB and 1 x 1GB ??
