Me too. Already have one but looking to get a new one in the next couple of months with a SSD. waiting for this to happen here first (from ZDnet):

19 January 2009: Dell has increased the capacity of the solid-state drives on its range of XPS laptops, but not the price — at least as far as the US is concerned.

On Saturday a Samsung-manufactured 256GB SSD appeared on Dell's US website as an option for the XPS M1330 and M1730 laptops. The SSD is available as an upgrade, at a $400 (£270) premium, to the base specifications of those laptops.

Before the option of a 256GB SSD was made available, the largest SSD a customer could order as an upgrade for the XPS machines was 128GB in capacity. Upgrading to the 128GB SSD also cost $400.

ZDNet UK has asked Dell if and when the 256GB SSD option will be made available to UK customers, but had not received a reply at the time of writing.

Same here. I want a portable light weight laptop without spending huge amounts. The alternatives suggested by Mike above are a bit to expensive for me.

You can buy the 3 1/2lb Packard Bell Easy Note BG45-U-300 for £250 from PC World/Currys. (£270 at Dixons)

1lb heavier than a Netbook but with a Dual Core 1.7Ghz

For people wanting a smaller and cheaper laptop with great performance, the Samsung Q210 is worth a look. You want the Intel P8400 version with 320GB SATA drive and 3GB RAM for around £650. The look is not to everyone's taste, but I personally love it.

mike t: do you know if dell ever have any good offers/ reductions on their gaming laptops? I'm after something like an xps m1730, but am waiting for a special offer on it. seems to have been a long time i've been waiting and i've seen nothing! i also like the look of the new xps studio 16, but dont think they'll be any reductions soon seeing as its only recently been released.

i'm after as decent a gaming laptop i can get for £1000. have always bought dell, but cant find anything so far so have started looking at rock, asus or acer....not too sure on the last one though, given some of the bad things i have heard here!!!

cheers

There was an amazing deal on an M1730 a few months ago, I still kick myself everytime I think about it. At least I avoided another grand of debt.

I'd add to that the Q310, which is essentially the same machine with a slightly larger screen and a better keyboard.

At 13.3" it's still very portable, but the keyboard is larger - on the Q210 they've chosen to put speakers on either side of the keyboard, which reduces the available space for an already small keyboard...

Battery life is a little better on the Q210 though, due to smaller screen.

They're both Centrino 2 machines, and represent just about the best value for new tech on the market.

You can get a good few hours of light use out of either one of them. 4-6 for office style work, with a bit of wireless activity. 3 hours of heavy use is about the limit.

lol, nah, i bought mine in june 08.

so thats why i thought it should have got cheaper.
and also considering that their newer centrino 2 replacement model for the m1530 (16" studio xps) has alerady come out and they are trying to sell these side by side, that price is stupid. i mean why price a model and slower model for the same price, sholdnt they get rid of them or put them at a discounted price?

Tried this morning, best I could get with T6400 and 10% off was over £900. So it looks like this is a Thursday price Hike from Dell.
