Thanks for these Mike :)

Loads of Dell choices once again... Many more than there were a couple of months ago...

wonder if these dells can overclock , dont know what mboards they use
#5
Do these have any noisy fans?

I got a new job and in a room full of 15 Optiplex machines all powered on the total noise is less than my one PC!

Emu, Dells dont normally overclock at all, not through the bios anyway unless someone does a rewrite. Dell laptops sometimes can be through pin modding the cpu. I have a 1.6 PM cpu running at 2.13Ghz for the last year ;-)

Johncas, the latest Dells for home use as multimedia centers are almost silent using big slower fans and lots of ducting usually.

thanks for the reply miket , a cpu like conroe deserves to be overclocked

think ill stick with my amd 64 rig for the time being got my x24200 clocked up nicely to 4800 speeds

Nice spec Mike..and I like the style of the case...shame I'm not in for a new PC at present....although I'm forever tempted.

Emu you ought to start a thread about overclocking as I'm sure there are many members who could add their experience.

I have never tried overclocking as I'm far too cautious and knowing my luck I'd destroy the CPU..my son has a Gforce 6800 ( in his Dell 9150) and he was talking of overclocking the graphics chip..I've convinced him it's better to upgrade but there could be some good advice out there about overclocking this card.

Thats the general Dell idea Currychps, to tempt us into yet another upgrade;-)

I have to keep my credit card well away from my pc too!

With regard to overclocking Dells, they really dont cater for that sort of market. They want their PC's to give the owners and themselves as little problem as possible, so they make them fairly bullit proof and maybe even underclock them a bit to be sure they are always stable ander most conditions. After all they are aimed at the mass market of users who just want to use them as they are and not add a turbo :p
