The XPS 720 is built on NVIDIA® 's nForceTM 680i SLI chipset, giving you the flexibility to load your system with dual high-performance NIVIDIA graphics cards. To support the additional power draw, the XPS 720 includes a 750W power supply, giving you the juice you need for a full-throttle graphics experience. For maximum effect, your XPS 720 features the world's first DirectX® 10 GPU – the NVIDIA GeForce® 8800 GTX.

Nobody want one?

Its got to be a misprice as its been dropped in price by £200 today and it did only have one 8800 card and no bluetooth reader before, dell are not that generous!
#3
Looks like a good deal, those graphics cards are at least £300 each, processor about £170, memory about £55, disks are about £40 each, DVD drive about £20, Ageia™ PhysX about £100 - by the time you add the cost of the case, PSU & associated bits then you get to the £1100 price (these prices listed are the cheapest versions of each from EBuyer - those in the Dell machine might be more expensive).

A good buy for gaming if you don't want to build your own system - and possibly as cheap or cheaper than you could build yourself.

I would love to have one (drooling at the thought of the power in actual fact!), just that it's still too much for me...

I have heard they do finance etc., but is it a route worth going down (and what sort of payments would they want as well as what would it end up costing in the end)?

Forget finance with Dell, you would be better off with a personal loan from your bank and pay them back, dell seem to want too much profit on their loans.

Fair enough, thanks for the advice :)

I really would love to have that PC though, so I'll have to see what I can do :)

Jeez - that's an environment killer that is!
I'd love one except that it's overkill
One 8800GTX can handle any game on the market, let alone two.
You gotta say though - it's an absolute monster of a machine.

Not entirely true - for those with a good credit score they give a 12 month interest free "holiday period" with only the outstanding balance (usually 90% of machine cost due to 10% desposit) due if paid off within the period, subject to a £15 admin fee.
[mod]#10
Yes I saw Admin fee and didnt go further as I was expecting a larger fee than that. But to be brutally honest I know of friends who bought furniture on this sort of finance where its a 12 month holiday and with all the good will in the world they dont put money away each month so they can pay it off in 12 months time, that leads them into big % finance deals.
If you cant trust yourself to 100% pay money into a savings account and not touch it till 12 months are up, your better off either not having the finance and pc at all or going with a bank loan where you can be sure they will take it from you ;-)
#11
True enough but most of those entitled to the holiday period (those with a credit score of 950+) do have that self discipline, if you didn't then chances are you won't be eligible anyway.

Do Dell immediately attempt to take the payment, or do they wait until shipping before taking the money from your card (which is a Visa Debit if it makes any difference - I assume they would accept that card)?

(Reason I ask is that if I would manage to get a loan, I'd obviously want to order this ASAP before the deal gets expired, but the loan obviously wouldn't appear there instantly, but would possibly take a few days)

Normally they ringfence the entire amount so it can't be spent elsewhere, then take full payment when they pass delivery details onto walsh western (the day before your dispatched email).

So that means that I wouldn't be able to order until the money is definitely in my account then?
[mod]#15
There seems to be a 3 week delivery delay on this atm, also the £200 off is due to expire on the 10th Oct. What I cant tell is if the deal is supposed to have 2x8800GTS's as that just doesnt seem likely due to it not having 2 off them yesterday when it was £200 more.

I just wanted to comment on Dell XPS 720, in case you're planning on buying it. I own the XPS 700 which has been upgraded for free by Dell to XPS 720. It's a great computer, BUT:
1) it is very heavy and takes a lot of space
2) you have limited options when it comes to motherboard upgrade

I bought the XPS 700 for £650 in Aug. 2006 (it was a misprice) and I don't regret buying it (it looks great), but if I knew how big and heavy it was, maybe I would've chosen something else.

Hope this info helps! :)

I was just about to check out my saved basket, and it was no longer valid.
It now comes with only one graphics card, so it was a mistake.

Yep, looks like they corrected it.

Ah well - now I will have saved a lot of money by not buying it at all :-D

I managed to get my order in before they pulled it. I've recieved an email confirmation. Anyone have an idea what the chances are this being honoured?

Thanks to Mike T regardless :)

Have you had the pdf showing configuration and cost? If you have the pdf then you'll get it
[mod]#22
I recon they will just let that one go through no probs, well done. Almost wish I had bought one myself now.
#23
I haven't received the pdf yet, just the website transaction receipt. No Order or Customer number yet either. How long does that usually take to appear?

If it goes through i'll be extremely pleased, but I'll try not to get my hopes up. Fingers crossed anyway!

Not at all true... At all. Those who can recall the Iomega drives at an insane price will know what im talking about. I made the order, got the email and PDF, and it still got cancelled.

If dell made a mistake and you capitalised on it, chances are they WILL cancel the order. But good luck all the same.

Thiis deal is still good until the 10th of Oct, with £200 off, but there is no longer free shipping. Does anyone have a currently working code for free shipping at Dell?
Thanks
#26
damn i missed this deal...

does it still have dual 8800 GTX? when i looked they were only showing one... for this price you can't complain... incredible deal if it was still valid
[mod]#27
They corrected the error on the 27th Sept around 3pm as it now only has 1 8800 GTX card.
