Getting 8GB of ram such as the Corsair CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 modules I received from Amazon gave a Windows Memory score of 7.5.

Having said that I found the HDMI port on the back of the case pretty shoddy and touching the cable led to video disconnecting. The Intel HD 2000 graphics are good enough for everything if you're not looking to game. It can handle 1080p videos smoothly.

Just got these:

Have you fitted them yet? Can you confirm the Windows 7 experience/benchmark with them in.

Not yet ram just shipped today. Still haven't got round to setting my desktop up yet because in a bit of a dilema with transferring my data across lol.
Will let you know once i do though.

Update:

RAM score updated by 0.4 so now up to 5.9

Overall base score stays the same.

Anyone able to decide for me? This, hopefully from Dell swarm soon, the pre 3 on 2yr contract from cpw with accessories for £152 (£202 with quidco, my mum will buy the sim for £50) or the Acer Liquid Metal? Thanks for any help

In my opinion:

Dell Venue Pro:
+ Will receive the Mango update plus the next update (called Apollo I think) next year

HP Pre 3:
- Unlikely to receive official software updates in the future

Acer Liquid Metal:
- Same situation as the Pre, in that it almost certainly won't receive official software updates in the future
+ If you don't mind getting your hands dirty you may be able to install unofficial ROMs if you need to update the software, although this will void your warranty
electric0ant
oh yeah also wanted to ask, what mango version are you running? the final or a beta?

I've been running Mango RTM 7720 for the past few days. No issues other than the the UI is a bit faster.

hi sorry another question, for those who have got this phone what UMTS bands have you got? (it will say on the label on the box)

Mine says UMTS 2100/1900/850.

I typically get a day out of the battery (17 hours). Although I updated to Mango a few days ago, and the battery currently says 96% and it's been on for 6 hours.

My LG Optimus 2x battery lasted about 13 hours. iPhone batteries will last longer, partly due to the smaller screen. Someone at work reckons they got 5 days out of a HTC Desire.

i'm wondering if the battery on mine is faulty, i left it on friday night, fully charged with wifi and data off. I went away for the weekend and when i came back on sunday the battery was already dead.

Probably best to use the phone under normal conditions (i.e. not leaving idle for a weekend) before deciding if the battery is naff. Think these days your doing well if the battery lasts for the waking day. My only gripe with the phone is that I don't like the physical keyboard, and yet I have to lug the keyboard around with me.

Don't forget the battery needs a few complete discharge / recharge cycles before it's running at it's best.

Dell Inspiron Duo Tablet / Netbook - £299.00 - Dell Swarm

Thanks very much marty :) Been wanting to 'give something back' and post a deal here for ages but, hand on heart, I haven't found anything worth posting that wasn't already on here!

I've not actually had more than 5 minutes hands on time with one, shame to hear its laggy. I imagine I'll have a go at popping OSX or Ubuntu on it however, which ought to help (and as you say, Windows 8 might just give a performance boost fingers crossed!)

Realblender- cheers for pointing out about the audio dock. Shame its not supplied with this one, might be able to pick one up separately but I wouldn't even consider at that price! Totally agree though; best considered a relatively decent netbook with a trick up its sleeve!

I installed the Windows 8 Developer Preview last week, alongside Windows 7 (dual boot). The install was flawless and Windows 8 works perfectly, with or without the multimedia dock. The Duo in tablet mode flies on Windows 8 :)
Regarding usefulness of tabs- I used to think that, until I got one! While I agree they are certainly not an essential purchase, I'm surprised at how often I use my iPad and the number of things I use it for (and the number of things it seems to do better than any other gadget I've got). The product listed here anyway is a full netbook computer, with a proper keyboard, Windows operating system etc. So potentially useful as a productivity machine, rather than just a media consumption one.

@ Advent - Yes it does have a multi touch screen. However, you wont be getting the same sleek multitouch gesture style interaction which you would with an Android tab or iPad. Windows 7's multitouch capabilities are there but.. not really fully formed!
is it multi touch screen
tablets only purpose in life is for those who are joined to the internet via the hip. otherwise waste of money/pointless.

Err.. sorry for ranting, just realised this is a very large nutshell!

It did the job! Cheers!!

These full-body protectors from eBay look promising. They're the cheapest I've seen:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280723224882?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I've ordered a couple for myself.

colonel
just come from iphone and HTC sensation
both excellent but I wanted to go back to windows phone (had a HTC HD7 before) but with a keyboard

I must say this is the best phone I have ever had
The construction is beautiful, the keyboard is the best I have ever used (=BB), its lighteningly quick, the IE browser is better then webkit (I can enter some forms in ebay and on forums that I could never do on iphone), the screen is super sharp and marketplace is full enough for me (flight control & angry birds ).

I really hope that Dell brings out a non-keyboard version (as this is more popular) and markets these hard to service providers come mango.
Dell showed it could make great handheld hardware with the old Axim range, and now the venue pro.
I really hope Dell make a success of their smartphone business, they really deserve to!

I strongly recommend these phones to people that want a beautiful phone with keyboard. Especially as Dell is occasionally doing various forms of discounts on these now.

Only a screen protector you get one with the phone anyway

These aren't just screen protectors. They have sections that cover the entire phone like Zagg Invisible Shields, which are much more expensive.

So it's a plastic cover for the phone? I don't get why you would need it though cause if it falls I don't see how it would be protected?

Fair enough, I didn't realise. And having the NVIDIA NVS 3100M is pointless?

I couldn’t agree more as I can’t imagine that it serves much purpose in such a system for the majority.
Agharta
I had one of these and they are very nice Business class laptops with a good resolution 16/10 screen for the size and battery life is excellent. Shame they spoiled it by adding a nVidia GPU instead of sticking with the Intel GPU. You can get 6 hours of usage with the 6 cell battery and Intel GPU and ~9 hours with the 9 cell upgrade. 3 year on-site warranty as standard.
Good review at Anandtech.

rikz2004
graphics card on this is about the same as the intel hd 3000 so not a good deal. Will not be able to play new games unless on the lowest settings and even then will be low frame rates.

Games. LOL.
It’s like voting a cheap winter holiday deal cold because you won’t get a sun tan.

rikz2004
A standard xps 15 at full price of £599 is a much better deal with a 2nd gen i5 and also a nvidia geforce 525m which is good for playing games, comes with a larger 500gb hdd, and you can probably get quidco or find some money off vouchers on the internet.

Heavier, larger, worse battery life, much weaker warranty, lower resolution screen.
They both have their pros and cons but they are aimed at completely different markets so it’s futile to compare them.

Fair enough, I didn't realise. Still don't think it's a good deal though.

thanks for the info, how is the build compared to the newest vostros. I had a 3450 that seemed pretty solid, it had to go back cause it was over heating though. I was considering another one or perhaps the E5420. Is the 6410 worth the extra.
guerilla
Anybody had and experience with the 5000 series they seem more reasonably priced.

I think the build quality is not half as good as the 6 series and the warranty reflects that.

It is not a problem with my bank. If they never get the info to pay then what more can they do? It really is Dell.
I have spend £1,000s with many other companies all over the globe. Dell remain to be the only one that have caused any problems.
I don't want to waste my time or money if it is going to be a problem again like that.
Not a bad deal at all. Was thinking to get this laptop/Tablet, but was put off by the rubbish touchscreen interface in Windows 7, though Windows 8 may address this. If I didn't already have a laptop, may have bought this one today. Hot deal OP :)

I have called the bank after every time they have done it. They said that the money wasn't even requested. This has only ever happened with Dell. I have seen many people on here comment a very similar thing too.

Best thing to do if your are serious about getting the deals is to let your CC or bank know you have made the purchase and they will ensure it clears when Dell present for payment.

Is this a good recommended laptop ?
They must be getting rid of these as a Fusion upgrade to this line is long overdue.

I spotted on Insight that they are doing a ThinkPad Edge 11 E125 with 1.6Ghz Fusion, 4GB RAM, 320GB 7.2K HDD, 11.6" screen and unlocked mobile broadband. £331 but it says order on request. Worth posting?

The i3 13.3 HP probook from saveonlaptops looks better than this Dell. However, the dell is a slightly different style with no optical drive , slimmer and glossy screen .
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HP_ProBook_4320s_1066236.html

The price on the HP is £399.98. You then have to apply for £99.99 cashback, which according to the terms and conditions on the website can take up to 56 days to be paid. Also, the HP has a smaller hard drive and less RAM.

Personally I would go for the Dell if you want a slimmer device plus the extra disk space etc and don't want to spend £400 up front. Quidco should be 5%

For an extra £200 you get the model with 4GB ram, 500GB hard drive, WLAN, Touch Screen and wireless keyboard/mouse. Since the touch screens are more of a gimmick than a feature (unless you are looking for a POS terminal that is), get the £299 model and spend the saved money on something more useful (ie: more shoes for the missus).

Actually there is an old swarm with the spec that you mention here. All in all better spec and for £329(better CPU &GPU, bigger hdd & ram, etc).
If you thinking of buying this, might aswell go to dell swarm page and re-swarm that one.

Service manual for this computer.

Step by step guide on how to add the wireless card.

Good price, a compatible mini PCI-Express wLAN card should cost you £5 - £15 delivered or as suggested buy a USB stick.

why buy this when you can buy laptop?
Since you cant upgrade and for this price you can get a bit better spec laptop.
Sure you don't get a 22" screen but with that rubbish graphic card whats the point?
Hell even my 3years+ old dell desktop are better spec than this.
I'm starting to think dellswarm are for dell to allow them to clear out their rubbish stock....

Dell swarm are plonkers and get their descriptions wrong quite often. The voucher you recieve is for the system on the main dell website they link to. So click through to that to see what you are getting. I have written complaints based on Dellswarms inability to give proper descriptions.

Hi, know nothing about dellswarm but the confusion is on Dell's own description of the Inspiron One 22.

Thanks for the heads-up anyway. Jumped when a system like this came through at this price, but the lack of VGA display connection and wireless card is probably a killer. Otherwise would be sitting in the swarm right now.

Why do you need a VGA connection?

I would REALLY REALLY REALLY advise against buying one of this if you have not paid already. I bought this deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-venue-pro-windows-phone-7-smartphone-now-179-50-with-50-off-dellswarm/979484?page=3. The phone was posted by UPS and then called back by dell on its way to delivery. They said this is due to some verification process which my bank told me was not the case because dell took the money alright. Anyway i asked for my money back from dell and was told they can't do that but to claim a chargeback from my bank. Now my bank is saying it's not possible until after 30-60 days. And yet dell is refusing to refund me. If you love your money DON'T PAY FOR THIS. And their customer service is the shittest of all **** customer service. BE WARNED

How does swarm work, can you not go ahead with the purchase once you receive the code? Are you committed to buy it?

Nope, they give the codes out to anyone who registeres and requests one. Then it's a race (depending on how good the deal is) to checkout before it sells out.

OK cool, because signed up for this one and I got the code yesterday but had my doubts about the item, so if it's sold out I can't use the code for the discount anyway, even if I wanted to (not that I want to anyway), is that correct?

Correct. I was debating the zino base unit a week back. I ordered the code and by the time I decided to go for it, they had already sold their allocation for the swarm so Dell just didn't recognise my code.

Good to know for the future, cheers.

I would REALLY REALLY REALLY advise against buying one of this if you have not paid already. I bought this deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-venue-pro-windows-phone-7-smartphone-now-179-50-with-50-off-dellswarm/979484?page=3. The phone was posted by UPS and then called back by dell on its way to delivery. Does this come with Blu ray?

No because Ray is feeling better now since the anti-depressants kicked in.

Blu-ray, for the sarcastic among us.

You got the older Zino 400 which I found to be too noisy for my liking so I bagged a 410 from the Outlet for only a little bit more.

Is the HD4250 capable of full HD playback? I know that the older HD3200 couldn't cope with Bluray. I was looking into getting one of these as a cheaper alternative to a Mac Mini.

Dell Swarm have had some damn good deals in the past but this is not one, I got one of these off the Dell Outlet 2 weeks ago for under £200 (£197 to be exact) 500gb HD, 4GB Ram, WIFI Card and Red Lid... it had the lower 1.6ghz dual core processor but for under £200 I was'nt going to moan !!

Sorry to hear that you're having such a nightmare with Dell. Found this address online which may help. It was posted on a forum last year by someone having problems with Dell and so may still be valid:

Mr Aongus Hegarty (MD)
Dell Corporation Limited
Department 33
Dell House
The Boulevard
Cain Road
Bracknell
Berkshire
RG12 1LF

You could try calling the following (non-premium) number in order to find someone who may be able to help you further: 01344 373 499. Its actually the number for their warranty section, but you should be able to get through to either sales or customer services by navigating your way through their automated system. Hope this helps.

Mine was meant to be delivered yesterday and was called back by Dell after it was on the Van for delivery. Apparently it did not pass verification process; now i'm two days of wages out.

Yes ive got that problem! went to ups and they said it had been sent back been ringing dell and they said its at ups!

both i find have rubbish customer service!

Looks like we will not be getting the order. I just spoke to dell's useless customer service on the phone and the guy said dell has requested the item to be returned to them, and he could not give me a reason. He wasn't even sure about what he was talking about. Useless people
Received mine though can't install Mango, getting connection error C101002E on both laptops I've tried, even after hard reset. Anyone else getting this? WM7 looks really nice, slick and has a fantastic touch screen kb, more than I can say about my Dell Streak 5. Not sure I'll be moving from Andrid yet tho definately loks promising.

Dell Swarm isn't a pyramid scheme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_scheme
It is a group coupon (like Groupon) scheme whereby a price is offered subject to a minimum number of purchasers.
Having said that, the monitor isn't a great specification, so voted cold.
It's not a Pyramid Selling Scheme, its just a system used to gather large numbers of potential customers beforehand, to show an interest at the purchase price, and once this meets the required threshold, it opens the floodgates for a batch of orders. (Happy for someone to correct me if I'm wrong on this)

I've got a Dell Studio One (from a year or two ago) and the touchscreen is infrared.
You can trigger it without actually touching it.
I also think a touchscreen on a desktop Windows PC is a gimmick
e.g not worth having unless you have a specific app that needs it
Damn, the more I looked at this the better it seems, built in tv tuner, wifi, speakers, full hd tv with benefits, make it sub £300 next time and I'm in.
it looks like the touch screen but when you look down the right hand side where it says a summary of your order it says "non touch", very misleading too.

Thats fairy muth, just been going through the spec as you replied to my comment as the spec on the first page of the £399 is different to the actual spec once once you click through so ignore my post.

Actually it is touch screen
21" Inspiron One Computer with Touch Screen
Subtotal £399
Includes VAT & Shipping
but the spec is not the same even though it lists it as the same on the first page, goes up then to £550.
There are currently no Swarms available.
Expired- probably for the best i was very tempted :)

I have found crashing a problem on most of my android powered devices, no matter how well equipped they are, there is one hard to swallow solution to android crashes though......

Buy an ipad oO

Lol. I have the Ipad 1 64gb wifi & 3G. I just got this for a change, thinking it was the 3G one as it would fit in my pocket. Oh well. X)

mines crashed 6 times in 9 days now. On the phone to Dell and they say they cant refund the item after 7 days. Hmmmm.

Anyone else having trouble with theirs?
Didnt check. i rushed in to purchase and then realised it was the wifi version. its not bad but now my 3g ipad has turned up, i can't see myself using it much. someone at work is looking at buying this .off me so i won't lose out financially.

Would have tried downloading honeycombe but couldn't be bothered in the end.

Might give it a go.

Mines been dispatched.

were you limited to the wifi version or could you spend £50 more to get 3g?
